Progressive overload is what makes you bigger and stronger. Over time, you must add a little weight, or a rep when you can, or a set even to the exercises you are doing. And it’s about consistency, showing up routinely and trying to make small improvements - so don’t get distracted focusing on huge impractical leaps, but rather just doing the work & enjoying that process.Hey yall I'm b_rad, I'm new on here but after I got out the marine corps I've never truly been happy with my body. I mean it's ok, but there's alot more growth, strength and cut that iwant to accomplish. I'm 185lbs now, but I've never really hit the gym just done exercises using my own body weight. So I've recently started hitng the gym and I like the results so far but definitely would love to pack on some strength and mass but also keep a good 6 pack as well lol.. If anyone has any pointers on how and what I should do to reach my goal that would be great. Love lifting and can't wait to see what I can achieve within the next year.. Thanks for helping us new guys out lol.![]()
People think 5lbs isn’t a big improvement. IF you could do that every week, and you can’t eventually, you would add 260lbs to the barbell. A guy benching 135 would be closing in on 400lbs in a single year, which is virtually unheard of. So you can see how even 5lbs here or a rep there when you can take it will make you much stronger over time.
You will have bad days & great days, which are largely irrelevant. Your average progress is made from the 80% of days that will be totally average, where you showed up & just did your best that day!
