Cooler this morning than it’s been thankfully, if only for the day. Everything just feels heavy as hell on squats, but I haven’t even squat 500 since I hurt my knee last year, so I guess what did I expect? The bar does move okay; it’s just hell conditioning my body to these weights. Took a couple singles over my work weight to help with exposure somewhat, and overall things are climbing, so it’s going in the right direction at least!
From the scap push ups through the empty hack squats, how long does that take you? Lately my warm ups have been getting longer and longer to get my knees and shoulders warmed up

Also, I am Team Dry Scoop! I don't mind some salt in a sweeter drink like a pre-workout, or protein shake which I often add some too, as well as my coffee, but I don't like it in my water. The salt in the coffee while brewing gets rid of so much of the acidic taste. Ps might as well add some sodium to something that can also dehydrate you a little. Help to keep some of it in.
Now that's an interesting idea I haven't heard before - adding salt to the brewing coffee pot! I might have to try that.
Hey just imagine how much better the weight it’s going to feel like when you’re in the A/C. You’re getting some old school conditioning programmed in. You’re on the right track man. Keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll kill it at the meet.
Remind us again, when's the meet you're targeting @Hyde?

I forgot to write that I spent a couple minutes on the Assault Bike there too, usually 1 hard minute to heat up fast, then 1 slow to keep circulating all that warm blood. Sometimes 3-5 minutes when it’s not so hot out. But it’s normally a good 20 minutes of prep on lower body days, more like 10-15 on upper (depending on length of walking or cycling).

Remind us again, when's the meet you're targeting @Hyde?
I am looking at a meet on Aug 24, 7.5 weeks out, at a powerlifting gym in Columbus I’ve trained at during the Arnold previously.

There’s also a meet in STL in 4 weeks that I’ve considered doing additionally as my SBD testing day, mainly because I haven’t been on the platform in so long.

Yeah, I need to set myself up a solid warm up routine when I build my new program. Just have 2 basic ones, and add or subtract movements based on what needs the activation. Probably a mix of calisthenics, and mobility drills.

Remember the goal is to potentiate the day’s training & help prevent injury. If it’s negatively affecting your real work, or if you don’t feel you need it, cut it! Don’t be afraid to modify or change on the fly. Sometimes I can tell something needs a little extra, or something else is good to go & would be a waste of time/energy. Short & sweet is ideal.

Good accessory session in air-conditioning last night. This also definitely helped my recovery overall from squatting the day prior. My legs/hips/back are always very tight the next day, so this got everything flushed and loosened up nicely.

I’m definitely sweating more since adding DHB the last 2 weeks, both in training & especially after eating. Otherwise, mood/energy/everything feels really good on the current combo. Keeping things at 400/400/200 test/mast/dhb for this week.

I did take these little baby Dbol tabs (alleged to be 10mg Var, but tested as Dbol, so maybe 1-3mg each?) before squats Tuesday and 10mg Var before accessories last night. I am going to try to keep taking small doses of orals before most training sessions for now, gut permitting.

Also, I’ve finished 3 weeks of taking 2.5mg Rosuvastatin 1x/wk, and now going to twice per week.

Also, been doing 30g of Countrytime Lemonade in my intra this week added to my Karbolyn, and that’s still digesting well & helping restore hydration similar to straight Karbolyn for me. It was something like 5lbs for $10 at Sam’s Club.

You know, I actually prefer using more Karbolyn as far as taste goes. I think it’s just too much straight sugar for what my pallet is used to. But it being nearly free it’s so cheap, that makes it just perfect 👌

I kind of assumed you were probably watering down the lemonade quite a bit once you add the Karbolyn in. In my mind it was double water for the amount of lemonade. Diluting the sweetness quite a bit. Just going off of how I figured you might be using it.

I’m doing 64oz water with 2-3g actual sodium, 30g Countrytime, and 55-75g Karbolyn. Plus 40g ProSynthesis17 & 30g glutamine, and 2g L-Ornithine Aspartate and 750mg Creatine HCL.

Now that is an intra, and will pretty much stop muscle catabolism in it's tracks too.

Just felt like I needed to practice going heavier today, as well as getting back on the deadlift bar to reacclimate. Haven’t been over 450 even since I tweaked my back in March. Today is my last day at 34 years old, so I had it in my head to at least pull double bodyweight. 485 flew up, so I took a small jump to 513 and that was just as fast. I could have went higher, but the plan was only to go heavy (not max out).

Happy to be able to do this well & without back pain; spending the rest of the day with my family!

That’s great to see you going over 500 on Deadlifts again with no issues. Looks like you’re going to be in a good place for that first meet.💪😎

Happy birthday! And not a bad way to walk into the next year of your life - that 513# DL...

Thank you everyone! Glad for the opportunity to earn another year to my name.

happy birthday homie, good way to end the year with a 500+ pull!
You know last year was a bit of a dud for peak performance overall, but I have had a lot of back and knee trouble to come back from, plus a pec tweak this spring. I would say I have improved my muscular base though a decent way. I’m hoping this next year to make more serious headway!

Best numbers of age 34 were:
-500 Squat
-335 Bench
-530 Powerbar Deadlift

Some other notable lifts:
-510x5 Transformer Bar Pin GM
-495 Duffalobar Squat
-325x3 Bench
-340 Floorpress
-525 Deficit Deadlift w/ Powerbar
-555 15” Rackpull
-396x11 RDL

for sure, these are awesome things to be building from. I'm looking forward to seeing you healthy with that bench, I know that thing is going to the moon as soon as the body allows.

Much less humid this morning here, and training accordingly went better. Took 320 for an easy single, as 305 is most I’ve touched since my pec tweaked. I shifted to my left and got loose at the bottom, but it still moved fine just based on pure horsepower - this very much reinforced my decision to take a heavy single. Making this weight despite lifting it ‘wrong’ builds my confidence, while simultaneously giving me practice I obviously need over 90%.

but you were still pain free, and this was just an error in the lift?
Well, the pec was pain free. I probably shifted because my right shoulder hurt, but it hurts most of the time when I bench, somewhat. It got hurt on incline db back at the beginning of December.

The big thing is to NOT heed it, to change my bar path to protect it - that’s asking for a real injury.

I realized at the bottom that I wasn’t tight suddenly, so I had to waste energy getting things tight again as I began the press. Felt a bit like when you spin your tires trying to floor your car; you’re wasting a lot of time and power. After I was told that I suddenly shifted to the left on the way down, which made it all make sense because I was feeling my shoulder subconsciously.

Later on the 1-board AMRAP, I was very conscious to maintain my position even as I fatigued, despite the discomfort. I’m not going to make the lift or stay safer by not being aggressive.

Congrats on passing some nice milestones. For all of your injuries you have remained very productive. Well done Sir!!!

You can always do something! Something to train, or the ability to diet if not.
Facts, I have been paying more attention to nutrition than training lately because of the work schedule, and obviously nagging injuries. I definitely look better than I did at the beginning of the year, or even a month ago for that matter. Something can, and should be done.

Really glad this session went so well; this is the one I needed to have to make me feel like I should commit to competing. Broke out the EFS double-ply sleeves, because I finally ordered a pair of the psycho strong Inzer neoprene sleeves ($153 shipped) that I’ll start using next time. Allegedly they’re a very similar strength/assistance. The compression the EFS ply give inspires a lot of confidence in my bad knee, and the 490 single was a cakewalk. Getting a lot more comfortable with the weight on my back.

Also, 441x8 probably had a couple in the tank - when I did 450x10 I was able to squat 600 in the gym at 263lbs. Now I’m about 10% lighter, but I must be good for 550 right now. And on that note, doing 16 reps of GHR at this BW on the aggressive setting I have is a very inspiring metric to see coming up. I think 20 reps is going to have my hamstring potential around 600ish.

I am getting jacked on this DHB.

Awesome, it is good to see you making strides and feeling better.

We’ve been in Dallas today, got in last night with a few friends from the gym. Weighins are tomorrow morning at 11 for the wife, and she competes Sunday at the same time.

It was a beautiful day. @MrKleen73 was mentioning in GP’s thread this is one of the driest areas in TX - and honestly as the day warmed up it became obvious. Definitely better than back home, so it was really nice to be out. We went down to the Ft Worth Stockyard, and wrapped up the evening by the pool enjoying the beautiful weather. The wife woke up only 3lbs up today just from drinking a couple gallons of distilled water last couple days and pulling carbs/lowering salt. So she got to drink & eat a lot more and much later into the day than usual. Which meant she had a bit more energy to enjoy what is normally a very brutal day. No hot baths or sweating and she’s going to bed at weight still.

We’re going to get some benching in tomorrow after a big breakfast post weighin, and most of the day will be catered to the wife eating up for game day! It’s a very stacked field, so it should be an exciting contest.

That’s great she’s right on weight and can enjoy some extra energy….hopefully you guys can just enjoy Saturday and she’ll go into Sunday rejuvenated and refreshed and bring it home.🏆

Good luck to Mrs. Hyde!! You guys enjoy your stay also.

That is awesome! She will be better prepared for the contest not having to do anything severe to make weight! Good luck to her.

Yeah, Dallas is pretty dry, but once you get into West Texas you will see tumbleweeds and stuff rolling down the side of the road. Out there it is mostly scrubland, and a little desert not much green at all.

The show order was:

Press Medley
Max Deadlift on Kabuki bar w/ bumper plates
Zercher Carry / Sandbag death medley
Yoke / Powerstairs medley
Heavy & heavier Farmers medley

They do ladies then the men for each event before moving onto the next event.

Home from Dallas; it was a fun trip & a well-run show! Wife only took 8th out of 9. She didn’t make any mistakes and performed decently; I’d say this is just where her performance is at still coming back from the double-disc herniation in her t-spine last December prepping for World’s.

Unfortunately the axle in the middle of the press medley was knurled & extra heavy, and she just couldn’t push it high enough to struggle through to lockout. This kept her off the circus dumbbell, where she would have grabbed a lot of points and otherwise placed 7th overall, at least.

BUT she didn’t get hurt, got back on the Pro stage, and didn’t take last despite coming back from a pretty gnarly injury. She also ran a 455 yoke with zero problems, the heaviest she’s put on her back since the blowout. All in all, I can tell she enjoyed it a lot. They interviewed her in the middle of the livestream about the injury and what she loves about the sport.

We had a great time with our friends, enjoyed some good food & saw some cool stuff! It is good to be back home though; today we hung out with my son & took him to a local beach at a lake here before we go back to work tomorrow.

My wife basically sat the deadlift out - the lowest openers the others put in were 385, so she just pulled a very easy 305 to grab the point for last in that event & saved her energy for the remaining 3 events. But that being said, that was a very impressive event to watch: one woman pulled 515, and a guy pulled 735! This is weighing in under 141lbs & 176lbs, respectively.

We had a great time with our friends, enjoyed some good food & saw some cool stuff! It is good to be back home though; today we hung out with my son & took him to a local beach at a lake here before we go back to work tomorrow.
BUT, Did he get his mandatory beach ice cream? THAT is the real question!
