Beast, man!
Thanks, hard to believe that was 13 years ago already, I was natural for 15 years at that point and only 185 lbs in most of the pics and 178 and dry as a bone in the 2 side by side that really show my serratus and obliques about a week out from the competition.

Having a rough one right now, got sick to my stomach as I was leaving work and sharted on myself at the urinal on the way out. JUST LOVELY!!! I know many of us want to emulate @Hyde but this might be taking it to far!!! :)

I am going to go outside and see if i can muster up a session of some sort. Wish me luck!

Whew, I made it through, and ended up making it count!

Upper & Lower Push Hyper = Muscle Rounds and 2 Pump Sets of 15-25

Warm Up
- Blowing leaves out of the driveway, internal and external rotation work, dynamic movement

DB Bench -25x15, 35x10 - Muscle Rounds 50x6,x6,x6,x6,x6,x4
Fly Attachment - 25x8, 15x17, 15x15
- the 25 was too heavy for comfort with this attachment, it is an intense contraction!

DB Side Raise Muscle Rounds 17.5x6,x6,x6,x6,x6,x5
DB Side Raise Low End Partial - 35x20, 20

Iron Tec Leg Press Muscle Rounds - 315xx6,x6,x6,x6,x6,x6 - go up 20lbs
Iron Tec Leg Extension - 75x15, 75x12
- this surprises me how heavy it seems at peak contraction

Rope Triceps Extension Muscle Rounds - 50x6,x6,x6,x6,x6,x4

I didn't see a need to do an extra triceps movement since benching hits them well and they were toast after the ropes.

A few highlights from my two upper body workouts over the weekend were incline benching 95x10 x3 sets, flat bench 125x8, flat with slingshot worked up to 155x8, DB Rows 50x10 x 6 sets

Then the beach muscle workout with my buddy was 3 sets on 2 machines for every upper body part working in a 15-20 rep range at RPE8 so I got a major pump and had a lot of fun doing it.

I barely made it through the leg press it just kicked my ass, made me nauseous, and had me second guessing going on or even going out there. Then I sucked it up and got on to the next part of the plan because I was just so damn close to finishing. I am glad I did. Was a nice win.

I got in and tried to eat a little later and it was hard getting it down my stomach just tightened up so I had a shake and am hoping whatever this is goes away overnight.

Thanks! I am definitely not looking to get that lean, that is contest ready outside of completing a peak week. It is funny how you forget how you looked until you go back and check things out.

You definitely were beast mode in those pictures. Always good to have those pictures to remind you what you’re capable of. Even close to that would be great, you don’t have to hit single digit body fat, 10% to 12 % still looks good.

Dude, THICK. I think the old pics I have are some of the same poses lol.

I laughed so hard at the shart part. I wasn’t even upset that I crapped either - I was just angry it happened on the first rep instead of the third!
ha. for some reason I have become the "go to guy" when people **** their pants at work. over the years no less than 4 guys have come to me to let me know they **** themselves and they need to go home "but they'll be right back" 😅

Jim Moore has a hilarious bit about a squat session that went awry in his book. @dapack might remember him from thebodybuildingdungeon back when we were posting there a decade ago

1/4/23 - Cardio

Elliptical and Bike - 45 minutes 438 calories

I probably got in 20000 steps yesterday prepping for and setting up this arbitration, and didn't have any calories until 3:30 PM. I got on the elliptical for about 12 minutes but my feet started to ache from all of the walking yesterday so I went to the recumbent bike to finish up.

Daily Macros - these are estimates as I was not able to bring my own food to work and had a casserole for dinner. Had a shake to get my protein needs met.

Protein - 190
Fat - 60
Carbs - 95

Estimated Calories Around 1700

==========================================================================

1/5/22 - Morning Weight 220.4
- back down 4 lbs, pre Christmas holiday I was 218.6 so not too far off from that now.

Today is an Upper/Lower Pull Session, going to be eating more today to fuel the workout, then tomorrow I am going to fast until dinner, unless I get there and decide to wait until morning.

I had my daughter prep me some Chicken Tikka Masala for my prep meals last night. I just need to plug the measured ingredients into MFP so I can track more accurately, but that is what I have for my meal today. We made this one a little more veggie heavy to get more micronutrient needs met. I will end up dumping this over some baked potato, maybe even putting a little in some carb smart tortilla's to make sure I hit my fiber needs as well. Excited to be getting back on track!

I’ve been on a big potato kick recently. Craving them all the time.

Those low carb wraps are great. The protein one I had Thai weekend wasn’t bad either.

Yeah, I love them and have made a decision to bring them up in priority due to nutrient content. What brand was the protein tortilla you enjoyed this weekend?
dude we have potatoes almost every day lol
I think they are a really healthy carb source. Packed with micronutrients, and resistant starches. Nice amount of fiber, really a hard to beat carb source.

Lunch today ended up being taken out by the manager running the Arbitration I have been working on all week.I kept things very simple and clean so it would be an easy estimate.

8 oz Cajun Grilled Chicken breast, 1.5 cups rice, 1/2 cup red beans, 1 piece jalapeno cornbread.

Only thing that is a guess here is the jalapeno cornbread. I will look to see if the place has nutrients listed if not I will find a few on MFP and pick one in the middle of the macros to increase odds on it being correct. I will snack on part of my intended lunch around 4:00 so I have plenty of fuel for my workout. Tonight is a strength based Pull Session.

@Hyde any recommendations for what feels like a sore quadriceps tendon? I have been sore over my left knee for about a month, not bad at all but just enough and it hasn't gone away yet. I have been doing some quad stretches and using liniment before workouts. Once it is warm it is fine but I was wondering if you had any tricks that might help with it actually recovering. I have been limiting total weight on it recently but was thinking maybe stop extensions or something like that might help.

They are finally building one in my town. It looks to be almost be done, last I saw. Problem is it will be packed for 3 months. always happens when a new food place opens in my town.
Good news is since it is already prepared and it is kind of cafeteria style topping selection even a long line is like 10 minutes before you are sitting with your food. Plus you can get it to go and their container will keep it hot until you get home. Do not order online, or Door Dash, they tend to be a little skimpy with the meat if you aren't standing there watching them dish it out.
seems like yesterday

Yeah switching leg extensions for standing TKEs with a fairly stout band choked to a rack you’re facing and looped behind the back of your knee for several sets of 20-25, focusing on the quad contraction, could be a good way to engage and possibly strengthen the muscle while giving the tendons a break.

Avoid anything that hurts it obviously, and you could always pin some BPC157 into it daily if you have some and want it feeling fresher faster.

1/5/23 - Upper / Lower Pull - Strength

Warm Up =8 Minutes elliptical 122 calories, Rotator Cuff Work and light pulldowns.

NG Pull Up - 3
- slight discomfort where SLAP Repair was done so went to Pull Downs

Irontec Pull Downs - 100x8, 120x8, 120x8 - decided to test regular grip pull up since these felt good

Pull Ups - 5, 5, 5, 5, 5 Definite and obvious increase in pull up strength here

Irontec Chest Supported Isolateral Rows - 45x15, 70x5, 90x5, 90x5, 90x5, 90x5

Sumo Deadlifts - 135x10, 185x5, 225x5, 225x5, 245x5, 245x5, 245x5 -
The last set was conventional because the outer part of the back of my leg was getting tight from not being used to sumo.

EZ Bar Curls - 85x5 x4 sets

I am half expecting the shoulder to be a little sore by the slap repair tomorrow from the NG Pull up, but other than that I really enjoyed the rest of the workout.

Calories today were a little low I have to put some of it into MFP but I know it was not near 2500.

Glad the pull-ups progressed! That’s a huge rebuilder.

Good move on the sumo switch; I have strained my bottom outter hamstring on my left leg no less than 3 times on sumo pulls. Basically every time I do it for a few weeks in a row and start building any steam lol

I get a weird pain on the inner side of my knees when I pull sumo. Even sometimes when I pull traditional and I have a normal to wide stance. I actually pull now with my feet only a foot apart and then I switch to sumo on my very last rep (on warm up sets) occasionally to see how it feels.

Any ideas why I feel it in my inner knees?

Assuming something isn’t overly tight that needs some mobility, and you aren’t doing something really wonky technically, I wonder if you have proportionally weaker abductors (on the outside of thigh) that are struggling to drive your legs apart against the load?

I’m just spitballing like a true bro here; I’ve never heard of that & don’t understand the body enough to make an educated guess.

Often when something is tight, it’s because something is relatively weak in the equation.

While I don't know the cause, definitely not tight and I do direct work for abductors and I don't feel like there a weak link.

I actually notice it's a lot more noticeable in my right knee vs. My left one.

I know I have good form on traditional but my sumo may be wonky, I have never been taught to pull sumo, I just have always done it the way I see ppl do it. So that could be a issue for sure. IL bring this up in my thread, I got lost and didn't realize I was in kleens thread. My bad @MrKleen73

Thanks, yeah I was pretty excited especially in a normal grip! Something about the NG just bit into my SLAP repair, not much worse for the wear today from it though! A tiny bit of inflammation in there, but not much more than typically follows a good pulling session. So not worried.

Only thing I can think of may be how rotated yur feet / hips might be, or tight adductors, or maybe if you have flat feet which would add more stretch on the inside of the knee from the collapsed arch possibly.

All decent suggestions, its really hard to say tho like you said.

Right leg medial glute could possibly be a little wonky, it is common especially in people who drive a lot because the right foot and thigh is normally flopped out allowing the glute to shorten which leaves it at a stretch which inhibits contraction. This is where my right knee hurts sometimes when squatting and it is normally when I haven't activated the glute enough. Mine got worse from being in a boot for a very long time and you have to walk with your leg rotated out so it exacerbated it.

Also you can always start discussions in my threads man. No derailing possible, this is a place for me to log, and to have conversations and share or request information. Feel free to discuss whatever pops up in here and your experiences or questions at any point.

That last part, right leg medial glute for people who drive a lot. That's something to look into as I drive up to 5 hours a day sometimes for work and when I'm not driving I'm usually down in some kind of mud pit lugging heavy **** or I'm up on a ladder.

1/6/23 - Morning Weight 219.6 down almost another lb, getting closer and closer to pre Christmas weight. Feeling big, and thick, but ready to get leaner!

I will be fasting most of the day, but I do have yesterdays lunch up here and need to eat it as opposed to wasting it. Not sure if I will get a chance to update the MFP with my food until I get home. About to get started on the arbitration work again. If I am lucky I will get to take a lunch and knock out some cardio.

There is a new position coming up that could get me about 20,000 more a year that I am considering applying for here doing more of what I have been all week. However it requires heavy travel and often unplanned travel. So I could get a call saying book a flight for tomorrow you will be gone for 3 weeks plus it is salary and often 12-18 hour days. So it might break down to less an hour once all factored in. Just not sure if I want to travel like that. I feel it could affect the quality of life and me achieving other goals that are important to me. Plus I am a very family oriented person so being away from the often and for long periods is not that attractive.

Also, I extended the cycle one more week. I have one shot of EQ left so will knock that one out tomorrow and it is going to be done. Obviously the EQ will stick around a little bit but I am going to reschedule my physical for early March. Give me time to get everything back in check.

Agreed, that's probably why I do better guiding others then I do helping myself. I'm pretty good at solving other people's problems but terrible at fixing my own lol

Is it just a 20k increase, or hopefully per diem, travel pay etc?

20gs sounds appealing but like you said being away from home, 12-16 hours a day, 3 weeks possibly at a time, tax the 20k, its a big decision.

a long time ago when I contemplated chasing a career as a Pilot I remember reading up in the forums and they had a term called "AIDS". Airline Induced Divorce Syndrome.............

I don't know how marriages survive with that much travel. Case in point, my wife's Ex was gone a LOT for work. Even when work was local he was gone late and often.

I love to travel and I love when work calls me to Mexico, Texas, AZ, etc but I'm never gone for more than 1-3 days and I usually have a good 1-4 weeks notice. If I told my wife I was leaving for 3 weeks tomorrow my **** would be in the front yard waiting for me when I got home 😅

Even if the per diem is fat, if the travel is routine that would not be worth 20k to me. Now that I have a little boy it wouldn’t be worth anything to me, but if not I still wouldn’t want to be away from my wife so much.

Being exhausted from travel, stressed, lonely, bored, & a biggie is being tempted by other random women you’ll inevitably meet. Even if you are totally committed and never so much as glanced at anyone, will Jo possibly get worried about you running around with some desk girl you met at the hotel? Jealousy is hard on a relationship.

I wouldn’t take it unless it sounds like the work will be very satisfying and you’re extremely confident it’s for the best.

Yeah, with that it would be hard but at least I would see my family more. It probably won't be for about 6 months before the opening shows up so i can talk more with the 2 people in the position to find out how often they are actually traveling.

20gs sounds appealing but like you said being away from home, 12-16 hours a day, 3 weeks possibly at a time, tax the 20k, its a big decision.
Well they pay for all travel, room and board, and I would expense all meals, but not an actual perdiem where I could pocket some of it if I chose to live cheaper. Good point on the taxes that might be just enough to toss us into the next tax bracket and eat up most of the difference.
a long time ago when I contemplated chasing a career as a Pilot I remember reading up in the forums and they had a term called "AIDS".

Yeah, this is part of my worry. I would not want it to deteriorate my relationships. I think maybe it is not worth it, like I mentioned somewhere on here yesterday l am comfortable and love / relationships are my motivation, not money.

Agreed, this is how I felt when the original position they asked me to apply for came out but I was like I need more money than you will pay for something like that. Now they are paying about what i was thinking it would take which makes me second guess a little but I am not passionate about it, so it would just be a job to me.

Yeah, I hadn't really thought about Jo feeling insecure but since in her words she feels less attractive with a little extra weight she has been more insecure so that is another reason not to do it. No amount of money is worth my wife feeling she needs to worry about me being faithful to her. She is my Queen!

I love my wife and know she is faithful to me but this part here could just as well be the other part. I won't get lonely on the road, as an introvert I prefer the alone time and if she has a girls night I think FINALLY I get to watch sports lol.

But if I left her at home alone SHE would get very lonely and stir crazy. I'm not saying she'd go out to meet a guy, but I know how miserable my wife would be without her companion at home.

Now, a solution if possible... is if your wife can join you on the trips. I have been able to take my wife on a couple. Unfortunately she was not able to join me in Guadalajara in Sept or AZ in Nov but both were very short 2 day trips. If work is already paying for me to fly and hotel, then getting her a cheap airline ticket to enjoy a hotel pool while I'm working is sorta win win.

yeah 3 weeks would just never work in my life. I could never even be married to a flight attendant to be honest. My brother is and I do not understand how their relationship works at all. it seems super dysfunctional to me.

I was just surfing trying to find your thread because I stopped getting notifications and literally as I was about to click on it I got the alert for this post.

I can't for the life of me figure out why I randomly start and stop getting alerts. Same thing happens with a bunch of other people's threads.

O well, I'm back now lol
I hardly ever get them any longer.

My wife couldn't handle me traveling for a living. When I do have to travel for my job. about 2 times a year for a few days, she cant sleep because I'm not in bed with her. I however sleep like a baby in hotel beds!
As far as her cheating on me. I don't worry about things I don't have control over. If she thinks she can replace me she better be right!
Plus, she has a tendency to be pretty jealous. Me not so much.

Exactly the same for me. She gets anxious just thinking about me having to potentially travel. Plus now with having to figure out care for the little ones...

Yeah, I love them and have made a decision to bring them up in priority due to nutrient content. What brand was the protein tortilla you enjoyed this weekend?

In the apps, there’s an icon at the top that unsubscribes you. I’ve noticed that swiping away notifications sometimes gets my finger awfully close to that icon.

All that same for me. I sleep awesome alone in hotel, but she’s anxious and can’t sleep, and now with my son it’s even harder on her.

These Mission wraps are the bomb! We always keep the ‘low carb’ ones around - I mean they taste just like regular flour IMO. I had some soft tacos with them last weekend.

That being said, I am not so sure the fiber in there is really…fiber. I suspect it’s more of a marketing trick, a legal loophole to quantify it as such, because it’s certainly nothing like eating fiber from veggies/fruits/legumes/whole grains. Also, they have partially hydrogenated vegetable oils in them.

I think they’re totally awesome for occasional enjoyment, but to me these are not really an ideal staple food item. Just a slightly better option over plain flour since they don’t really compromise on flavor/texture.

I quit getting notifications myself…..As far as the new position, good points already brought up,
Higher tax bracket, extensive travel, working extra hours on salary ( I have to deal with this on my job), but to me the biggest negative is it keeps you away from family. It seems the only positive is a little more money…..the scale seems to be tilting more in one direction, especially knowing how much of a family man we can see that you are.
