Haven’t done GMs heavy in years, so it was great to cross that 4-plate threshold for the first time. Let’s me know my low back is getting a lot stronger again!

Mine sore just looking at the picture

That is definitely some strong squats. I hear ya on the feeling healthy part. After so many years always seems to be something aching or hurting, that’s why BPC 157 and TB 500 are my friends.

Those 2 are on my bucket list. Waiting till I really need them though.

Got some accessories in to help make up for Wednesday a little. Missed 330 halfway up on Floorpress, but was still able to get some good work straining through it with assistance. Scott Smith gave us some awesome free instruction on how he does the Tate Press and it was a serious game changer; totally wrecked my triceps in the best way.

Whenever I can get Scott to talk, I listen. I will go out of my way to stop my training if I see him for it because it’s like panning for gold. Dude had serious bench records in multiple weight classes while still putting up elite totals in full power.

It’s a Williams extension damnit! 🤣🤣🤣

That’s some serious good mornings there….bringing in the heavy artillery!

I was listening to a podcast with Spud Bartley and Travis Mash and they were talking about getting up to 800lb good mornings. I’ve heard similar from other great lifters. It got me thinking about where I’m at and where I need to go with my own lower back strength.

Care to share those secrets of the tate?

Well I’d always done them on flat benches for higher reps, at least 12s but often 15-30 reps.

Scott does them on an incline the way Wenning preaches, and similarly always pressing the dbs together even as you roll them, but he believes in hard sets of 8 with bringing the weight down higher on the chest and pausing momentarily before exploding as you punch with the triceps to lockout.

-Incline, paused high on the chest, explosive concentric, hard 8s.

Man that’s impressive, I may need to work on these !

This probably goes without saying, but be careful. You absolutely must maintain your brace throughout or you are almost guaranteed injury. I’ve also torn my hamstring before on them when first learning them a decade ago because I wasn’t unlocking my knees at all.

Strength has finally & obviously trended back down on pressing lately, but it’s been 7 weeks off blast so it had to happen. I’ve noticed a bit more mobility in my left elbow since the Incline Tate Presses Sunday, and I was able to pull off the JMs today because of it. The rows on the reverse hyper also really hit my lats a lot harder than I expected, so that was another win.

I’ve always liked one arm rows on the reverse hyper. Your able to really squeeze and hold at the top, really well, and I like the way it hits the lats. Another good workout too, by the way.

Thanks, yes I really felt exactly the same about it. Going to be using it more for rows for sure.

Blast and heal baby! Repeat. It’s a process.

I like the sound of these reverse hyper rows. Gonna incorporate these soon

I never have enjoyed morning workouts, for the same reason. Everything always feels heavier in the mornings, and takes so long to get warmed up.

Wife competed yesterday as an open middleweight. Very fun show and her class was the most competitive of all 50 athletes - she took 3rd of 3, half a point behind 2nd and only a single point from 1st place. She took first in 2 the frame carry & press medley events, last tire squat to boxes & the deadlift ladder, and tied for 2nd second on max weight stone load. Even on stones, all the women’s top weight was tied at 235lbs, but one gal did it on a 2nd attempt instead of third so she got an extra point - which is what gave her the contest win.

We didn’t care about my wife winning per se because she is always prequalified to go to Nationals and even the Arnold Amateur World Championship as a Middleweight since she’s a Lighweight Pro, but it was great to see her come into the Middleweights and nearly take the show. She has been working tirelessly for many months to rebuild her foundation, and this contest was an awesome driver to rebuild a ton of strength as well as core strongman skills (the press medley had 5 different implements to practice!).

Yesterday she squat 305 where she had to touch the tires to boxes set at parallel for her for 7 reps, pressed all 5 implements in just 27.44 seconds, carried a 300lb frame 60ft in a blazing 6.76 seconds, pulled 225, 255, 275, 315 consecutively in under a minute and also popped a 365lb clean off the ground, and loaded a 235lb atlas stone (lifetime best is 240).

Congratulations and I know how you must be feeling. Her accomplishment is yours too. Keep crushing.

Congratulations, to her and you. She is putting up some very impressive numbers.
It’s always a little more satisfying when your best friend is your partner in competition, but when that best friend is your wife too, that’s the best of both worlds. I know your very proud.
This is what you call a strong family, literally!

Amazing! Both of you!

Congratulation to you both!

Thank you everyone! She really is my better half & I love to watch her kick ass. We have our occasional fights and crap to wade through just like every marriage, but she’s the one I want beside me come hell or high water!

Gymnastics with my son a couple hours before this, which was awesome per usual getting to see all his little progressions. He also deadlifted a 10lb plate multiple times yesterday at the comp, no problem!

This session was very enjoyable - lots of little PRs!

WAIT
wtf, your wife cleaned 365??????

Lol no! But I can see how my poor word choice might convey that. I meant that the 5th weight in the deadlift ladder was 365lbs, so after pulling 225,255,275,315 all back-to-back she was still able to pop 365 several inches off the floor, but it was just too heavy after doing all that immediately prior.

But now I’m going to tell people she was actually attempting a 365lb clean! 🤣

This girl is so strong that I knew even though I had to be misunderstanding something there, whatever she did was going to be impressive lol

Thanks; it really is very different with no eccentric to store energy. I really enjoyed getting to use a close grip without my elbow issue being a problem too!

I like doing this with my shoulder press, I set the pin just about 1/4 inch higher then where I would start to feel pain on a normal shoulder barbell press. It's literally the only way I can do a barbell shoulder press without fucking myself up

This was a really good session: felt like I had good endurance and kicked some ass!

First time playing with Grip Genie’s rolling thunder knockoff and it’s just as fun as I expected. By no means a staple, but if your grip is a weakness like mine & you want a new toy it’s worth the price tag. Not sure how heavy my loading pin is; it was a gift from Chad when he moved away.

your one armed deads is going to motivate me to start bringing back one legged deads. My issues aren't the grip strength, just a ten year old injury that leads to one leg doing 90% of the work on the squats and pulls. nice session!

do you have a percentage of 1rm that you work from for box squats?

Can you post a pic of this rolling thunder in action?

My Grip Genie Rolling Grip Thingy is nicer than the Ironmind Rolling Thunder pictured here, but same thing.

50% of most recent barbell max, with band tension at top ideally in the neighborhood of 20-30%.

What’s the caliber on that handle? That’s fire.
