this is just opinion on my part, but i think they are gearing up for a bad winter flu/covid season...in most years many people go to work when sick because they have no choice-no work no money to pay bills/eat...many households live paycheck to paycheck and can't afford lengthy time off work...covid adds a different dimension to this, workplaces are going to enforce time off for sickness, the stimulus package is going to be vital for survival to many families and businesses, imo.

2 weeks living off basic unemployment would be devastating to many families, if they are going to enforce quarantine they will need to at least up unemployment to $200 additional per week---$600 was excessive and uncalled for.

Yes...the Biden plan! Let’s not forget attempting to mandate masks at all times we are outside the house. He fails to understand the chaos (protests) that would cause in itself. American citizens are what they are, and they don’t react well to being told what to do. We are lucky to have the level of compliance we have now when people are indoors. No mask, no entry at businesses, schools (while that lasts), is really all we can shoot for and it’s essentially where we have been for quite some time anyway.

On another note, Biden and the democratic party impressed me by wishing Trump and Melania a speedy recovery, as well as removing negative election ads. It’s the first move I have seen by the party that made sense and wasn’t completely based on their own best interest. They took the high road for once and it’s surely about time!

Haha, as with any political discussion it does get heated in here, but I still respect everyone that participates.

In real life I tend to avoid political discussion, but enjoy participating here because I find US politics far more entertaining than NZ politics.

I have no issue with you getting 100% of your wages for unemployment given the circumstances. I take issue with getting more money on unemployment than you did when employed. I think the $200-$600 extra should be capped at 100% wages.

we are in agreement-mostly...the additional $200 i am in favor of would cover those who get commisions/tips and frequent overtime...that additional $600 was over the top, actually it was stupid, imo.

pot roast are a great bargain, but nothing tops a steak grilled over charcoal. my favorite is porterhouse medium rare-i grill the porterhouse a little longer than other cuts due to the higher fat.

Any benefits should be given across the board and not just to those who don’t even contribute. How crappy is it to pay well into tens of thousands in taxes every year and then get passed on stimulus check because I earned too much money last year only for someone that paid zero to reap the rewards. What does my income last year have to do with my income during a pandemic? The govt obviously doesn’t think my income was negatively impacted. And then people wonder why the earners won’t get behind social programs.

big difference between stimulus check and unemployment, imo....i could argue against stimulus checks altogether if unemployment was sufficient---there should not be a benefit for being in a pandemic.

I was talking in generalities about any sort of govt handout. The top pays in and the bottom collects. Everyone, however, is suffering.
 
I say if politicians force everyone else to shut down they need to sacrifice their own salaries paid by tax dollars to do so. And if your in the media promoting shutdowns, they need to shut their stations down too.

I bet CCP-Virus would be on page 25 of every newspaper and get 1 minute coverage a night and they would be promoting some evil terrorist goblin or dictator again we need be scared of instead as the frontline news.

Absolutely. But then again I think a representative of a certain location should be paid no more than the prevailing average wage of their constituents. Why should they be motivated to improve the livelihoods of the people they represent if they are pulling in 6 figures with full benefits to work a couple months of the year?

Believe me. If I had my way about it I would end all social welfare programs and assistance. All of it. But if we are going to do it, then do it across the board.

Well New York State is seeing the light at least, the Communist Mayor DeFalsio of NYC wants to up the status quo.

Thank goodness I grew up upstate than NYC. NYC has their own crazy gun laws too that vary from the rest of the entire state. Its like an entire country with a dictator all on its own lol

what is sales tax where you live? how about state and local taxes? NY is ran by democrats, indiana is ran by republicans, my bet is you pay more in taxes than i do---wanna bet?

I’ve never enjoyed a moment in Chicago. As a matter of fact I have been known to spend an extra couple hundred dollars in airfare just to avoid flying through that shitty city.

after boot camp i spent another 3 months at great lakes for A school. used to alternate between chicago and milwaukee on weekends, had a great time at both. the loop back in late 70's was a very fun time, lol. milwaukee was a great place to drink, never seen so many bars!!!

I live in a high tax area, in regard to sales tax its 4 county and 4 state making it 8 total.

Sales tax doesnt bother me so much as the income tax. Its not nearly as demeaning and it doesnt punish productive behavior.

Our property and school tax is pretty high but we chose to live in a nice area.

Ive been a home owner only 2 years so I cant really claim its been better or worse since Dump took office, but people I know claim they were effected by Dump because he capped tax exemptions for home owners here.
