248lbs today. I don’t want to jinx it, but I am dangerously close to becoming somewhat regimented with my eating. For the past 6 days or so I have consistently eaten ~200g protein, lower fats, a bit of fruits and veggies, and 4 meals, 2-3 of which are basically identical from one day to the next.

Tilapia with jasmine rice has been the daily staple. People scoff at it because they are fed fish ****, but all fish swim in their own feces and ingest this and it’s never a health concern. And these are responsibly farmed, Best Practice, and a massively lower impact to the environment or water consumption than most meats require to be raised, for basically the same price as ground beef ($3.83 frozen at Sam’s). It’s gross prepped days out, but working from home it’s very easy to bake every day or two fresh and I can eat it so easily regardless of hunger (just like the jasmine rice).

Rice & fish, rice & eggs, rice & taco turkey, protein & Greek yogurt or a shake. Add some snack carbs somewhere, few servings of veggies, maybe a side of beans, dash of olive oil on one fish meal if I have 2, a couple pieces of fruit, good to go.

Also, either the Clen or the Hypernova started giving me burns/rash, so had to stop it. Will retry soon. Did add in Gainbusters Assault Team (called Gain Green now) today.

Lemon juice and hot sauce on shredded tilapia . However, I rarely eat white fish now, generally salmon. When I competed 5 years ago, the amount of white fish I had to consume ... makes it easy for me to pass now lol serious aversion to it now.

Woke up 245.6 - down over 2lbs mysteriously Had some McDonald’s today; trying to get a bolus of calories to stop the free-fall.

Finally bought a badass new mattress and bed! Split King with an adjustable bedframe that can tilt your head up slightly for acid reflux, incline your upper body, elevate your legs to deload the lower back tension - basically it can accommodate any random discomfort or injury we’re working with independent of the other side when one of us gets beat up When we tried it we knew it will be money well spent.

Super excited to stop sleeping in a crater in 3 weeks!

Definitely. It’s a Denver Mattress. We also tried several Purple out and Tempurpedic’s cooling line. Purple was nice but more expensive and definitely didn’t like it as much as the Denver - that baby was just magic every time we got on it. Tempurpedics very top offering was great as well, and it absolutely truly was cooling - but it was nearly 3x the price and my wife runs cold lol. No way did it make sense for us.

You know it’s bad when you both start on one side but end up in the middle lol
It’s just my bodyweight vs the age of the mattress (8 years). In 3 years with my wife I have managed to crater one side and now the other. We had switched sides after the first one since she likes her knees elevated anyway. Now I’m out of sides to blow out

Thanks for adding what went into your thought process. I’ve been browsing at mattresses for a year and a half now and both Purple & Tempurpedics were on my list to check out. I’ve not heard a ton about Denver and the comfort + affordability sounds tough to beat.

My fiance and I gave the crater problem too ...we’re on our second rotation through of switching sides . Everyone thinks it’ll be cool to be 250+...until you start blowing out mattresses, breathing fire from GERD, getting out of breath walking down a hallway, regularly swassing out shorts while simply standing outside.

Good news: My new Ohio DL bar is awesome!!! Felt very strong & 470 was grooving. Hook felt great on it; surface skin was beginning to shred at the surface so I put the straps on to keep making progress training the callus.

Bad news: pain I had after BB Rows Friday, and have been feeling in bed or in the daytime some when sitting in a chair, got worse with every set - final set felt like I was getting stabbed in my Glute medius when I would wedge in and make the initial drive off the floor. Could’ve soldiered on, but I know that kind of pain means pay now or pay much more later. I also was getting pain and numbness in my right calf/foot when I was unracking 420 on squats Wednesday. So I am thinking some kind of overuse nerve issue, maybe sciatic?

Good thing my new Titan Economy reverse hyper is coming Wednesday! Praying they get the order shipped correctly and I can set it up right away. Wasn’t gonna mention it until I had it built in the garage but now seems especially relevant!

Gratz on that new beautiful bar! Yeah man, the sciatic nerve is evil and must be destroyed. You will find that the reverse hyper will be tour best friend for rehab. I wish I would have used one sooner I would have healed up much faster and bulletproofed that whole area. Inversion tables work wonders (for me anyways when I was injured). The first session or two are short and painful but after that it really opens up and decompressed everything quite nicely.

Any heat from the lower back?
No sir, basically as soon as I stop the heavy lifting pain goes away. Not like a muscle tear, essentially. And not spasming like a disc, nor is it near there.

Woke up 245.2 again like Sunday! So while the 4 meals a day I have been eating is sustainable, but it’s not sustaining me. Burned right through the ~4k calories from Sunday. Trying to add a 5th meal today. 1 egg & rice, 2x fish & rice, 1 ground turkey & rice, 1 granola & isolate+fairlife.

What you describe is precisely what im dealing with, right down to the numbness/radicular pain with squats (which thankfully i havent had in a while). Try out the banded figure 4 stretch & the whole donnie “taming the dragon in your low back” hang series. You already know the stuff to do for general upkeep (walks, etc).

Also, once that hyper comes in, maybe just do a light set of 20 a few times a day. Before work, lunch break (if still at home), after work, etc. If youre spending more time sitting than usual because of working from home - stand up and walk around for a minute every 15 mins. Squeeze your glutes and brace like you just walked out 500lbs before and after.

Thanks for the ideas! I have been wfh since I started this job last summer, so nothing has changed in my day. I think I might have had a jolt while moving our couch up a big step backwards a couple weeks ago that might be causing this. Can’t wait for the reverse hyper!

Took much longer than I anticipated (my old tools are in storage at my parents, so I had to use the supplied Chinesium freebie half-wrenches instead of a proper 3/8 socket set and wrench). BUT that’s my fault and I am EXTREMELY impressed. The lone thing I needed Titan didn’t provide was a tiny Allen key between size 2.5-3 to back the stops out of the bearings to slide the shaft of the pendulum all the way flush.

Boxes came immaculate. 2 of them packed very intelligently - not a single scratch anywhere. All the hardware included in exact count and marked legibly. A terrific manual better than the Cessna & Bombardier ones I had to use as a mechanic years back, with awesome exploded breakdowns:

Took about 3 hours of work with the slow wrench-turning, but it was enjoyable enough and honestly pretty straightforward. You will need a second pair of hands to mount the pendulum & bearings, and probably want them to install the top frame (I did it myself tho). This thing feels really solid, it’s surprisingly light, and it glides smooth as silk - did a set empty then 3x10 w/ 90lbs and love it already. It’s comfier on my belly than ANY other I’ve ever used.

Looks awesome dude. Happy to hear it arrived without any damage. Doesn’t seem like that’s a guarantee with Titan.

Happy for ya man. Gonna be awesome for you to have access to one of those literally whenever you want - multiple high rep sets on off days sounds like the way to go.

08/13/20 - Day 15 PCT, Wk2 Bench
BW 245.2

Bench
45x10

280 4x2, 1x7 RPE9

BB Curls
45,50,55x15

Reverse Hyper over the day
90 4x12

Just keep waking up 245.2 unless I load up, so that’s my true weight and just going to go with the drop - didn’t affect my bench power any! Curls slowly building back up, as well as my reverse hyper volume.

Finally hung our barbells/axle on the drywall with the Tornado hooks - better for them and safer more useable floor space to get around. Probably going to hang our chains eventually as well; haven’t decided on the Trapbar.

Yeah it’s always a toss up at best for bench when you’re 4lbs lighter than 9 days prior, but the muscle and power seems to be hanging on well! No idea how they will hold up, but very pleased with the Tornado hooks for quality and ease of install. Literally a screwdriver and measuring where you want the hooks to go on your drywall (I also scanned for studs at those spots to make sure I wasn’t going to randomly hit one, because you need to pre-drill that).

Yesterday hit RH for 3x12 @90 before dinner last night - more later today. Trained at the gym with my wife. First morning session in a minute, but that kept the temp manageable and let me hit some supported back work.

Squats felt very heavy initially so I decided to play it by ear - ZERO pain, numbness or sciatic issues even under a fairly heavy 425, & 385x5 was smooth with reps in reserve.

Also adding CGBP @30% for 4x15 before every session. Easy quick work to increase frequency and volume - something I feel the lack of cost me my bench muscles over time after the previous post-meet phase.

I don’t believe I have mentioned this yet here, but it will affect my training heavily in the coming year(s), so for transparency: we are expecting around January We started trying shortly after the Arnold, and hit the jackpot right away (hence buying a house so we’d have room for the baby). Wife has been doing great, and we are very excited!

That in consideration, there isn’t really time for me to have adequate time off cycle & to do another serious meet prep before the baby comes (nor will it be ideal for us to both be bloated to hell at the same time the baby is coming when my wife will need my physical help & mental support most).

Chad is hosting a strongman show on October 3rd and we’re going to go down to visit, so I have decided I’m going to get in shape to enter the Novice class. The Heavyweight Open weights are out of the question & I can’t get to 220 for Lightweight Open that soon. I haven’t done any event training in over a year and a half, and I’ve got about 6.5 weeks to get in some semblance of shape - time to see how much grit I can muster!

Was very worried about sprinting (last time I tried to incorporate this years ago I pulled a hammy right away). Fortunately I am older and wiser. Did my LISS prior in the basement to ensure I was warm & sweaty, well-hydrated, wore proper running shoes, and our neighborhood is an HOA basically built on a park zone - tons of soft grass park area right behind my yard to absorb the shock. It was honestly really fun/empowering to sprint and see actually how fast I am.

Turns out if you can build a 600lb squat, you end up making some horsepower under the hood

First time touching these implements in forever. Trained them in the street outside our house around sunset, with the wife giving me commands and running the timer - honestly a blast. This was 50-60% speed work & everything was easy but the conditioning aspect: shirt was soaked!
