It’s fine to ask, but most physicians are blind and essentially uneducated about herbal supplements. There certainly are exceptions, but most of them are so brainwashed by big pharma and what they were taught in school, that they can’t even see other options. If they approach this in a logical manner and actually can wrap their brain around this, they will probably say not to combine Lexapro with anything that influences serotonin- due to fear of “serotonin syndrome.”
The extracts in S&A support do in fact influence serotonin, so I suppose it could be something to be aware of. Honestly though, working in the hospital I have only seen cases of serotonin syndrome as a reasult of people intentionally overdosing on antidepressants along with some recreational drugs. IMO- the changes of serotonin syndrome occurring from combining Lexapro with S&A Support is slim to none.
I have taken all the popular SSRI’s- including Lexapro specifically for about a year. For what it’s worth, I have never had any issues combining SSRI’s with any supplements that also impact serotonin. I will say that I don’t do well with high dosed Bacopa (Bacognize), but nobody I have talked to really seems to- even without an SSRI on board.
Bottom line, if it were me I would stay on the Lexapro (assuming that it has been helpful), and work in S&A Support and feel things out. I am still on Prozac, and I will be trying this without even giving it a second thought.
