I would eat a very high fat diet on Sunday, zero carbs, limited protein. I would also start taking 300 mg of ALA after every meal starting right now -- this will make your transition to ketosis easier.
For fasting: Monday will be easy, Tuesday harder, Wednesday very very *very* hard, Thursday easier, Friday easy.
Do not underestimate how rough day 3 will be. If you break, that's when it will happen. Black coffee or diluted green tea is your best friend if you start to lose your mind thinking about how hungry you are. Full strength green tea will probably make you vomit.
Also, do not poke the bear. Don't look at food porn, don't think about your fast-breaking meal, do not think about food. Tell yourself over and over, "I'm not hungry. This isn't real."
After your fast, you will be a changed man. Physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually.
We are all interested to see how this goes for you. Any supps and extra sprinklers you’ll be using during fast?
It declines slightly after day 3, but still is very highly elevated for the duration of fasting:
"The 5-d fast resulted in a significant increase in discrete GH pulse frequency (5.8 +/- 0.7 vs. 9.9 +/- 0.7 pulses/24 h, P = 0.028), 24 h integrated GH concentration (2.82 +/- 0.50 vs. 8.75 +/- 0.82 micrograms.min/ml; P = 0.0002), and maximal pulse amplitude (5.9 +/- 1.1 vs. 12.3 +/- 1.6 ng/ml, P less than 0.005)."

"the ratio of N loss to weight loss during an extended fast is inversely related to body fat content, being about 20 g/kg in the nonobese"

Was this your result after you fasted?
Whenever I do a water cut for a comp, I do a dry fast for 24 hours typically. That’s exactly what I do - I rationalize why I don’t actually need food or liquid and these hunger & thirst pangs aren’t real.
The body follows wherever the mind can lead it, in my experience.
I look at it this way...
We push very heavy weights and for this we have to convince ourselves that we can. No one who thinks: "I can't get this last rep", will get that last rep.
Fasting is no different: If you believe that you're hungry, then you're hungry. Besides, the hunger that we experience isn't true hunger, it's just a breakdown in a normal pattern of comfort that we've grown accustomed to that triggers certain physiologic processes and emotional states that we associate with a need for food, but this need for food isn't real. As long as you have adipose tissue, you don't need food -- this is the sole purpose of this tissue. True hunger -- when fat stores are fully depleted and lean tissue is all that remains for fuel (ie, starvation) -- will drive a man to eat leather, or dirt, or wood chips, because it *cannot* be ignored.
When we're lifting we're not thinking about how hard each rep is (at least I'm not), we're thinking only of the number that we need to reach and (hopefully) focusing on feeling the muscles work. If all we did was focus on how difficult the lift was, none of us would lift, because it would not be enjoyable.
Fasting can be very enjoyable once you set your mind firmly that:
1. I will not break this fast no matter how much I may want to
2. I will not think about food, and if I catch myself thinking about food I'll focus on something else
People run into trouble because they're not sure if they will make it through their entire fast, acting as if whether or not they break their fast early is entirely dependent on variables outside of their control, or they only half commit to fasting and allow their mind to torture them by thinking about food.
If fasting was inherently easy, there would be no cancer and we'd all live to be 100, but fasting is only hard because we make it hard.
Awesome Workout! I like the cardio at the end of your workout session.BeastGame!
Was not using the bicyle, just staring at it for 10 minutes.![]()
Hey hairygrandpa - been listening to a lot of Ben Greenfield podcasts lately, I know you like the anti ageing/longevity/quality of life stuff so I jotted down a few things that one of the top guys in America (in the field of life extension) uses himself, namely TAM818, ta65 and isagenises - there’s a book called the Kaufman protocol that he highly rated.....
Will look it up.
If you haven't seen this:

I haven’t seen it - just watched the first 45 mins (getting late over here now) and will watch the rest tomorrow.
One common theme (I tend to look for common themes and go with those rather than where experts dispute things - like Sinclair uses metformin but greenfield doesn’t due to some of the studies showing negative side effects) - one that stands out is mtor and how for muscle growth we need to activate it but actually for longevity it needs to get supressed.....I mean that’s a sh1t choice for people like us (pursuers of dem gainz) to have to make right lol
The other one is fasting - from what I’m hearing some form of fasting is pretty key in longevity and body comp. thinking I need to bring that into my nutrition as I’d not appreciated some of the extra health benefits it has.
Sinclair was the one betting heavily on telomerase lengthening in the past, with his astragalus derivatives . Now it seems, he pursues other ways.
I'm somewhat cautious, the products you mentioned, are high priced, as were Sinclairs products in the past. Smells like expensive quackery to me, unless they also mention compounds a regular guy could purchase (like epithalon or L-carnosine) who is not a millionaire.
Price should come down as it becomes wider known...... the issgenesis doesn’t look that bad though tbf.....I’m just going to try and add the cost effective things I can do into my regime. Mediation is pretty much free and helps massively (in fairness in the greenfield podcast he talks a lot about gratefulness, mindfulness, limiting stress, enjoying a social life, minimising insulin variability etc - all basically free but make as big a difference as the supps)
I’m not sold on this 7 day fasting. What are you going to do too keep the fat off if you lose body fat hairygrandpa?
I forgot about your training style. You can do it! I was thinking about the average guy workout routine that I see daily here on AM and not making Big body gainz. Lol!
I will be watching and Supporting You Brother!
Thank you. Please don't post delicious food pics on my log, LOL!
I'll take the week off while fasting. Training and 0 calories is self defeating. I can't promise that I pull it off -but will give my best. Brothers here on AM have done it before -and all agree that the results are worth it.
I figured that I'm already good in holding weight -but suck in cutting the fat off. This could be the way for me. The log will be a good read, I guess -failing or not.![]()
Resveratrol is one he spoke of quite often which is pretty cheap. He was saying you need the ncm or whatever with it as well. But it sounds like the body has it anyhow and Resveratrol helps power that molecule within the body.Sinclair was the one betting heavily on telomerase lengthening in the past, with his astragalus derivatives . Personally I think after it becomes a lifestyle (doing fasting on a fairly regular basis and even intermittent fasting) you see results after each fast whether it's 3 day a little more or less. I notice after a fast I look younger. Skin looks healthy and lines and wrinkles disappear. It lasts too as long you're not throwing a ton of toxins back in. Eating clean after is really important I think in helping to steward the benefits obtained from fasting.I literally can't wait until you get to day 5. Fasting is truly a gift you give to yourself and your loved ones. You'll see...

I completely agree and this has been my experience as well.
After a fast, I can pass for 28-29 and I'm almost 43. I pick up girls from the local college in bars who think I'm a grad student. Then, summer/fall come and the bad habits start and I age back to looking about 35. Then I fast again, and for the entire spring I eat and live clean.
I love the feeling of lightness after a fast. It's not just the weight loss, but your whole body just *feels* younger, quicker, and lighter. You vision clears up. Scars fade. Sleep improves. Memory improves.
I *DO NOT* enjoy fasting while I'm doing it, but the results are just impossible to get any other way. It's a million times better than running HGH, which I did for more than a year once.

Sometimes it’s just good for a person to realize what they’re actually capable of too...
Did you at least stare at the treadmill?
HGP what would be your last meal before the 7 day fasting?

Yes it is. I went from 185 my senior year of highschool to 119 3 yrs later on only X and BudweiserHave to share something.
Wanna lose 4lbs of fat in one night? I did.
Went to a local rave party, popped for the first time some X and did not stop jumping for 6 hours. Six hours -and about 2 gallons of water later, now I'm lean.
Nah, not lean -but I bet I'm already in ketosis. Wife stayed home. There were some chicks feeling me up on arms and chest -but I was too high to do something stupid (awesome).
X is awesome, best experience for me so far and a cutting "supplement" like no other! The "coming down" today was a bit harsh.

Pmsl. You being serious??
If you are then unfortunately you’ll never have quite as good a night on it again (it’s always good but you never quite reach the amazing feeling of your first night). The tingling and amazing feeling of stretching is incredible but yeah sex is pretty much impossible until you start coming down, the perfect scenario is the girl still being high though - amazing for them and you. Christ I miss e sometimes lol

It'll work for a little while as long as you only use occasionally. It worked for me 1-2x per month for about a year. That was back in the day tho... Quality does seem to be a factor as well as the feeling seems to vary from batch to batch.Oh...damn! Like with almost everything, I guess. First time is awesome, later, meh. Besides alcohol. First time I was dying, later it was good.
X felt a bit like high dosed phenibut at first, later it was something else, most notably: zero aggression and the urge to dance.
