You guys both look great. What you have been doing has taken you a long way. For most people that's a really good reason to be stubborn. Why change something that's taking you so far?
The thing to keep in mind is I think when people start to diet they lose strength and they assume that they are losing muscle. The fact of the matter is you just don't have the energy to create as much force so your muscles can contract is hard. It's more chemical than it is muscle mass. Couple this in with glycogen depletion from dieting and your muscles appear to shrink because you're not as full of water. All these things will come back very quickly once you carb up and get back on a normal diet. It can be a real brain game though.
I know that personally the first 2 weeks of an extreme diet, and I mean extreme, I will see some dramatic drop in how much weight I can lift. Once I adjust this tends to start rebounding. And then when I come off a diet the strength comes back fast. It isn't that I'm rebuilding muscle is that I've always had that muscle and never lost it. I just lost the ability to fuel it.
Oh crud wait, this is supposed to be a competition. Whatever you do don't lose strength guys. If you don't eat you're going to lose muscle faster than you believe. You will end up looking like a fat Ethiopian.
Thoughts on my physique?
19, 6’2”, 173lbs.
Goals: gain lean muscle mass as well a little fat to be overall a little bulkier.

Appreciate it brah! I’m currently on a 4,000 calorie diet of eating basically whatever I want. Still making sure to get enough protein and carbs but it’s been pretty easy so far. In the long run I’d like to hit 200lbs.

Now I see this thanks biotch! off for more cinnamon rolls!
Now the fat devil is calling me a fat ass!
I’ve been lifting for about 2 years now, but only this past year has been serious. I mean serious like on a program and counting my calories/macros. I’ve put most of my mass on from hard training in the last few months.
Personally, I want to add some mass to my legs (don’t have a current picture) and add a few inches to my arms. Of course, I want to develop my physique all around but those are the main things I’m going to start focusing on for now.
Awesome, so what is your plan to add mass to your arms and legs?

Crunches![]()
Just gonna stay on top of my diet as I’m already putting weight on. I’ve been hitting heavy squats along with several accessories for legs 2-3 days a week. For arms, I’ve been progressively overloading and doing supersets for days.
Unfortunately, I injured my wrist so I’m gonna be out of the gym for a few days but that doesn’t mean I won’t be eating all day!

Lol...you don't have to diet to get lean. There is no need for suffering or effort. Just hit the gym!

Dang! Studhorse see's me as a real ass doesn't he... at least it's an ass with good intentions...Well put! It is a brain game for me. At my age I know I need to lose some fat for health reasons. This damn women at work always brings baked goods to work! my weakness!! lol
I said no thank you at first! then an hour later I grabbed a homemade cinnamon roll to stash at my desk for dessert with lunch!
Let's start with moderation.I usually eat 2 or 3.
I saw MrKleen73 on one shoulder calling me a fat ass loser and the fat devil on my other shoulder saying you will work that off tonight at the gym! lol
I am so mean!!!!Now I see this thanks biotch! off for more cinnamon rolls!

:nutkick::nutkick::nutkick::nutkick::nutkick::nutkick::nutkick: You can't out train a bad diet Cpt. Facetious!Lol...you don't have to diet to get lean. There is no need for suffering or effort. Just hit the gym!
My personal opinion upper body wise is that you are pretty symmetrical and focusing on arms is going to have you looking way too slim front to back. You don't want your arms as thick as your chest front to back. Being "arm heavy" looks ridiculous to me... You don't want your arms overshadowing your lats, pecs, or shoulders... Just focus on getting bigger and hit those legs and the arms should grow right along with everything. I don't think you are at a point were specializing arm isolations as a priority is justified. They are not behind the rest of your development at all. Legs on the other hand I can not tell. I would just push your compounds, and do compounds for triceps as well when possible. Then add in the isolations for extra volume on arms.I’ve been lifting for about 2 years now, but only this past year has been serious. Right!Yah, OK
Just got a prep coach at my local gym and im jumping into my first show mid sept. In the 21 and under classic physique. My goal will change to overall transformation
"I am stubborn and refuse to give up on strength" I have been fighting this for 35 years! I think I'm just going to try to cut some fat and If I lose some strength, Just try to deal with the mental part of it. wish me luck!
I can always put it back on if it gets to me too much.
Oh crud wait, this is supposed to be a competition. Whatever you do don't lose strength guys. If you don't eat you're going to lose muscle faster than you believe. You will end up looking like a fat Ethiopian.
DONUTS, DONUTS, DONUTSThats tight dude, good luck. I feel like my goals have changed also haha. Started with a hard recomp last week and now alls i wanna do is eat donuts and be a powerlifter. Decisions decisions haha
Oh yea, do I have to declare nattiness or nah? I haven't started anything yet but, I found some old superdrol that is more then likely gonna be taken. Is anyone else gonna go the hormonal route? If not ill save it for later.

Good Luck, Train Hard!
Haha MrKleen73 - just trying to psych him out some people you have to dominate, some people you gotta just lull into a sense of comfort. The guy likes cinnamon rolls, I am gonna make him feel ok with that and use that to my competitive advantage. If he starts working hard...I am in trouble.
I am the fattest guy in here right now...I really need the mental edge.
Congrats man! What federation, and what class?Just got a prep coach at my local gym and im jumping into my first show mid sept. In the 21 and under classic physique. My goal will change to overall transformation
I think there was 1 or two more who said they were. I opted to go Natty to increase health as well. That and a cycle after I am lean could make for some impressive gains if I decided to go that route. In my mind tho the goal is to get lean and then write off hormonals all together other than TRT stuff. We shall see.Thats tight dude, good luck. I feel like my goals have changed also haha. Yes that is the goal unless everyone opted to go Natty all the sudden.I think MrKleen73 is going to have a few categories. Natty and non natty for sure.
Cool looking forward to it.I took a progress pic this morning. I will post later

Had a hard time staying lean with all the kids running around but starting to hit it hard again to get it back. Dont like being chubby lolIs anyone else experiencing the no media sharing alert or is it just admin not wanting me to show my flabby butt? Lol
Works on computer or web view on phone. Realized the next day.Me too on the no media sharing. Was trying to post pics in my log for starting point but couldnt... Im in the same boat. Who doesn't like cinnamon rolls!!!! MMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!
The bolded is exactly why you have the advantage... The heavier you are at the beginning the more and easier it is to lose. It's not a physique comp, its a transformation. You drop 20lbs that is gonna be a big deal whether you have abs or not.
Congrats man! What federation, and what class?

You guys are getting a break right now... my schedule and whatnot have me missing meals then eating poorly in the evening. I think I am still making a little progress on weight loss, but not accelerated by any means...
I did walk from the mile plus home from work last night and then into the office this morning up hill so I actually got a lil sweat going... I also noticed a little more leaning on my oblique and serratus and where they tie into where my abs WILL BE but it could be the lighting where I am... Pics and updates will come Sunday most likely. The battery is dead on the scale in the apt I rented or I would at least give a weight update...
First off - I'm not getting any break. I had a bad meal for Valentine's Day with the GF but I was coming off over 7 pounds of fat loss since Sunday, I figure I will end up around 3 pounds lighter this coming Sunday than I was last. You wouldn't believe it, but all she wanted for VDay was take out Olive Garden (which is pretty much one of the worst places - it's easy to hit 2500+ calories in a meal there).
Second - didn't we JUST have a discussion about planning, environments, etc. - and you were all gung ho about how you could just go to Wendy's, etc. and eat something good and it was just about choices? Now your schedule is off?
SFreed and hairygrandpa gotta back me up here - MrKleen73 would be the first one to call bull if someone else blamed their schedule.
.....hang on, I gotta fix my soapbox, it seems to have failed under all that weight....brb...
Well true dat but I already professed that this was basically the plan before I ever left Houston. As long as I got one workout in out here I was okay. Also said I had planned it for the convenience. So PPPLLLBBBTTT!!!! It was definitely a choice. Those are just the extenuating circumstances that I knew would guide my choice... I did want to lift yesterday and have today off to play but instead I plan to lift tonight. So long as I don't decide to partake in a magic brownie or gummy bear and walk the city checking things out. Actually the plan is to take it on the way home, go workout while it is starting to hit then go walk around town in a psychedelic funk.
Man you were ready to pounce weren't you! Been waiting to call me out huh? Had the First, and Second going on for me and everything. Please Sister Hit4Me, just put the ruler down, my knuckles already hurt!!!
Now get back to fixing that soap box! :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox:
I am planning on using it as my trophy acceptance podium to really rub it in for you!![]()
Lmao...like I said, you would be the first. As the second to point it out, since you weren't there, I had to do my job!
Good to see that extenuating circumstances are guiding your choices. Wait, did you say that?
Kind of feels good inside right now...smug. haha

You seem confusedededed... That was my argument the whole time. Trying to make the best of an environmental situation, IE getting appropriate foods when in a bind, but more importantly owning your decisions. The decision to drink and have a few sketchy meals was the plan... it was not a reaction to finding myself in that situation. It was the intended plan because I am visiting a new place and wanted to enjoy myself here. So rather than put myself in a situation where I let myself down I chose to have some drinks and a few sketch meals for my own enjoyment. What did suck is that they eat like mice here!!! I keep ordering what they say is "A lot of meat" and get 4 ounces or some nonsense. I had an $18 doublemeat yesterday that said it was huge... It was like a doublemeat whopper junior!!! Aaaaghhh!!!
However, yeah I would have called you out more than likely because the way I presented it in the post you called me out on did not mention that the decision to eat that way was made before I left Houston. Those comments were actually in my normal log. So it was a good call out but because of an err in how I presented the decision. The one thing that I did allow to change my plans was the exhaustion, and me deciding not to lift yesterday. However that is okay because I am doing it today!
Good to see that extenuating circumstances are guiding your choices. Wait, did you say that? -The difference is that I made a Plan to do this, and did not do it reactively. We were talking about doing it reactively. If you remember the entire discussion was triggered over the statement that Failing to plan, is planning to fail.
You should still feel good inside! Smug maybe not so much. The devil is in the details.
By the way the bolded here is awesome! I love how you put that. I am going to borrow this at some point!!!
PS - Yeah you caught me slipping, not in philosophy but in my communication...
Looking good brother!Left is today. Right is when o submitted pic in here 2 weeks ago.
