Jim's Powerlifting Training

Beverly hit an easy 65kg for a PR (and state record).

I only hit my opener of 105kg. Hit an easy 115kg second attempt, but my butt came up. Took 120kg for a third and my lower back cramped coming out of the press command. Oh well. Still salty about the squat attempt.

Congrats to Bev. Fck bench, just go pull.

Beverly hit an easy 110kg, so she went 9 for 9 and won her class.

97.5/65/110 at 53.4kg

I had to lower my opener because warmups were ****. Hit 175kg on second attempt and failed 187.5kg on third.

Overall went 195/105/175 at 73.5kg. I am still salty that they didn't let me grind through or fail the 207.5kg squat. Oh well.

Technically, I set RPS state records for the 165 class, but I had such a **** day that I don't plan on putting that paperwork in.

Numbers look great regardless

Numbers look great regardless
Only because they are kilo lol.

In lbs I went 429/231/385 @ 162 (1043 total). No PRs to be had. 429 at 162 isn't bad, but this is my worst full meet in a long while. I think my first meet ever was a 1053 total, and the only time I lifted less than today was 6 months after that bad back injury when I did 1018 @ 175.

it was a solid showing, all things considered...congrats to your other half as well....you'll shake this one off in no time.

I don't see you dropping on that squat either

Yeah, the more I look at it, the more it looks like it was going up.

Oh well.

I am not too worried. Just got to get back to it next week. Trying to get caught up with school now (we are a week behind because we had to transfer after the storm). After that, I will start bulking back up again.

Somehow got unsubbed in here, no bueno... Congrats to Bev, and hell if you got the record, claim it...

I am planning to make the trip up there for the Spring meet. Should be around March correct? I will be bulking for a show at the time and Trinity wants to compete so I plan on doing it with her. I may not go crazy on the peaking protocol since the BB contest will be the main focus for the year. However I should be plenty strong to compete and focus more on her. The only lift I really want to push this time is my pull. Just do some nice work on the other 2 for a solid total.

Sorry you had a bad meet man, and congrats to the wife. If it's any consolation, I'm just trying to get healthy enough to start a meet prep. I'm getting issues on a monthly basis it seems that keep holding me down somehow. I don't want to start a cycle just to get hurt bad if I can avoid that.

Man this sounds just like my situation... part of the reason I am planning on doing the meet with my daughter in the spring but have no intentions of really pushing crazy hard other than dead lifts. I don't know that my body will hold up the the rigors of an intense PL peaking protocol. I do know the experience with my daughter will be awesome though!!!! Right now my goal is to just lean up another couple weeks then start working toward gaining some LBM. I want to keep my body weight from getting too high and focus on growing leaner while on cycle. That way I can stay in the 220 weight class for the meet. If I can match my bench and squat numbers without a solid peaking protocol I will consider that a major win!!! I plan on beating the dead lift though... It is the one lift that doesn't really hit any of my injured areas, and can also really bring up the physique when being pushed with purpose!

Let me know if you decide to compete at that one. If you guys go, Beverly and I will probably do it too.

In other news, I lifted some weights yesterday.

ME Upper

Not going to true ME singles for a little while, more of a "heavy" effort.

CG Swiss Bench: 215 x 1
MG Swiss Bench (rest pause): 195 x 8, 4, 2 (14)
NG Chins: BW x 5 x 5 (30 sec rest)

a1. DB Bench: 60 x 15, 65 x 12
a2. WG Lat Pulldown: 110 x 10, 100 x 12

Notes: second movement won't change for 4-6 weeks as I push linear progression and work on bulking up.

Will do, as of right now that is definitely the plan! If nothing else breaks between here and there it is on!!!!!

Not really very hard on the legs, mostly difficult to stabilize and stay tight with. It limits the amount of weight that I can load up.

Yeah that lack of stability will kick your ass!

Still training. Just been a little crunched for time to log regularly with school and work.

Going to train for the meet in March and see how things go when I get closer to that time. May take another stab as a 165, may just compete 181. Depends on where I am strength/bodyweight wise when the time comes.

Currently hold the 9th ranked squat for professional classic raw as an open 165 in the RPS, so that is kind of cool. My 3rd attempt would have put me at #7 if I had gotten to finish it out.

My daughter got a bit spooked at how quick March was coming up. So she asked if we could do the one after that. I guess it is in June but didn't see it on the RPS site. So that is the new plan, she said she wants to be solid before she competes and I agree. Will give me a little more time to focus on growth, and maybe even start leaning up a little for the meet if I want. Just depends on condition at the time, the BB contest I have planned is Nov 3rd so a pretty good time to start my BB prep after the Meet. So that is up in the air but I am only doing the meet to do it with her. Otherwise I will focus on my physique.

I don't see a June meet on the ASF evenr calendar yet either. I will keep an eye on it. Just let me know if your plans change. We may compete in March anyway, but Beverly would prefer to compete with you guys whenever you go. Summer usually works better for us anyway, so it wouldn't be a problem for us to compete then.

Even better, I am used to them having one quarterly so I figure it will show up soon. I hope so anyway. Had a great time with you all last time!

Did something to my bum knee on Saturday during box squat (DE). Sharp pain at lockout. Has been sore since. Will probably not squat tomorrow and will probably pull instead.

Hate to hear that... I am dealing with a pinched nerve in lower back right now...

Wow, that sucks man.
It is getting better just had my 2nd chiro visit, he said my hip position had improved by a good 1/4 inch this time and that one more next week might d the trick. It pinches more in the morning after lying in odd positions I think.
Deadlifts went surprisingly well.

Nice pull!

I personally have no clue, but I just pmd you. Im thinking about getting a pair of loose briefs just to help my hips stay healthy and happy.

Sup jimbo
Just trying to finish this semester out. Still training regularly. Still weak.

Also, I have time to type this because I am sitting on the highway because my car just broke down. I think a lifter failed. Not sure tbh. It has been a tough year for my cars.

You in the Goat? Or do you still have that GN?

I’m still weak too, trying to get some momentum long enough to get my squat up. I think I just need to get heavy for a few years lol

Girlfriend is competing at Worlds Strongest Woman this weekend in the first ever year with a light class! I am seriously angling to go to dinner with Clint Darden, he’s competing in the Masters WSM.

This year has been no good for cars for me. I still have the GN, but it started having tranny issues earlier this year. Then my one GTO flooded in the hurricane, and now the engine has gone on the DD. It is pouring oil, so it isn't a lifter. *sigh*

I wasn't sure if Darden was going to make it tbh. I know he was having issues with a sponsor dropping him right before the event. My squat is the only lift that has been consistently good. I probably need to do the same though lol. I hope she does well, man.

Sorry to hear about the car issues!!! That sucks!

Got my shirt autographed by Clint! Had dinner with Nick Best, who is just the most awesome humble dude. Never thought I’d be sitting with him and his wife at an Outback Steakhouse.

Big Z won the show, of course - dude makes EVERYONE look small!

Gf took 4th out of 27 in Lightweight 141 WSW. Winning the truckpull and taking 2nd on stone series in the finals on day 2 brought her just shy of the podium. You would have seriously enjoyed it, JB - some great strongman action.

Damn man, that is awesome! I wish I could have made the trip. I hear the show ran really smoothly too, and meeting Big Z would have been dope.

I tried to keep up with the standings on SS. I heard there were some big ass stone loads from the ladies out there. Heavy ass log pressin' too.

What is the GF's next step from here?

That sounds awesome and Hyde you are looking big and beefy brother!!! Congrats to the lady for a good showing!

Yeah Donna Moore was insane on stones in the finals against Kristin Rhodes; I highly recommend you check out the Official Strongman Games on Youtube to peep the ends of some of the events - they put the entire live feed they recorded, both day 1 and 2, on there for free. You can just skip around to find the good stuff.

Kristin pressed a huge 265 log and Samantha Coleman’s giant ass pressed an all-time world record of 270. Z, Blekaitis, and amateur Brian Fletcher hit 425 logs.

Jessica is an alternate for the Rogue Pro Show at the Arnold this year but she wants to compete at WSW again as a Lightweight next year so we are only planning on going to watch (she’s already a Lightweight Pro and didn’t do any qualifiers for Middleweight Amateur).

She’s going to go do a little fun amateur show in KY as a middle on 01/06, which should qualify her for middleweight Nationals if she wants this fall if no other pro shows pop up, but I suspect they will. Right now it’s just get stronger and keep weight around 160.

Hello, all.

Just a brief training update for now. Bumping the volume up for the foreseeable future. Will be at 6x a week for as long as I can stand. New semester starts on the 16th, so we will see how long I can keep that up.

Gonna be:

Sun - ME Bench (Floor or Pin Press), then Chest/Tri (typical old school bb style)

Mon - Back/Bi (3-4 exercise, vertical pulling)

Tue - ME Squat, DE Deads, Hamstrings/Abs

Wed - Rest

Thu - DE Upper, Shoulders/Tri

Fri - Back/Bi (3-4 exercises, horizontal pulls)

Sat - DE Squat, Quads/Abs

Extra - planning to run/cardio two times a week (or more); once for time and once for distance. I may also do 1-2 more ab workouts during the week.

Nothing crazy. Just focusing my assistance a little more to fit some volume and build some muscle. Will keep trying to gain weight for a while longer (at 180 today), and then I will cut for a meet in the spring/summer.

Putting a lot of though into trying to enroll in ROTC when I transfer in the fall. If I can, that will change my goals some as I will need to be in "Army" shape, whilst still trying to get strong.
