New Topic of the Week: Best Tasting Yet Healthy Protein Bars

Regarding soy -- I would look for it to not be the first ingredient listed in your protein (e.g. soy being in there isn't the end of the world, but I'd prefer my protein coming from whey as far as the majority of it goes). Additionally, you just want to make sure you're not wolfing them down and eat them on occasion and then it doesn't really matter.

As far as cost -- some have mentioned I believe Costco's (?) Quest knockoff being cheaper and decent. Other than that, I just look for sales. Anything under $2/bar is good for me. I grabbed some NitroTech Crunch boxes of 12 for $16 or $17 each on a gold box deal from Amazon.
Thanks for the info and the heads up, just went to amazon on your recommendation and found those Nitro Tech bars with a 25% off coupon. Picked up a box of chocolate peanut butter for $15.

I'm just looking for a nighttime snack with some flavor to it that wont ruin my diet.

ProSupps MyBar Salted Caramel Peanut Review

Taste

Salted Caramel Peanut – This flavor screams delicious. From first bite you get an initial strong caramel flavor that is soon combined with a subtle salty peanut presence. The name of the bar is exactly what you expect biting into this flavor. The sweet and salty combination on this is absolutely on point. Put together the very soft and brownie like consistency center and hard outer shell it's a match made in heaven. This bar is absolute fire and my favorite off their line so far. The Prosupps protein bar reminds me of snickers to an extent. The chocolate is not as strong as you would expect, but the amount of caramel and peanut flavors combined really set the tone and make this combination work very well.

Texture

If you ever had a Muscletech Nitrocrunch bar or a Musclepharm combat crunch bar these are almost identical in texture. They have a nice glaze on top and then a very crunchy inside. The inside provides a chewy texture, so you get the best of both worlds with a crunchy outside and soft inside. I really enjoy these kind of bars that are not super hard, nor soft, but right in the middle where eating out of the wrapper is enjoyable without breaking your teeth.

Macros

10g Fat
17g Carbs
20g Protein

- it’s a mix of whey protein isolate , whey protein contcentrate, and Milk Protein Isolate
- only has 1g of fiber
- Sucralose is last ingredient, so not filled with a ton of sweeters and only 6g of sugar per bar.
- Veggie oil and soybean oil is a reason for the higher fat content per bar.

ProSupps MyBar Iced Cream Cookie Crunch Review

Taste

Ice Cream Cookie Crunch – This to me was a double chocolate cookie with a small vanilla icing. As you unwrap the bar you are presented with a dark chocolate looking bar. What you also notice is the little krispy pieces like on a grenade or muscletech nitrocrunch bar. The vanilla glaze could have been stronger on this one, but the cookie is the dominant factor. The chocolate is more milk chocolate then dark chocolate. I would estimate around a 60/40 ratio, but gives you the best of both worlds. With the slight vanilla glaze as the aftertaste it gives you a bold chocolate and then a sweet and sugary luscious vanilla glaze as the aftertaste. It is very well done, and My Bar continues to impress me with their flavoring.

Costco Quest clone (I think, not sure of the fiber Quest is using now, but the Costco bars use Tapioca Starch) - 20 Bars for $17.99 = $0.90 per bar! And they are f'n GOOD! to me. I binged on 5 the other night, still stayed in a deficit (slight) and didn't knock me out of Ketosis. Nirvana.

ProSupps MyBar Peanut Butter Crunch Review

Taste

Peanut Butter Crunch - Right away you get a blast of peanut butter. Just looking at the coating you can see chunks of peanuts that layer the outside. It is not extremely crunchy like the other flavors on the line, but the center is very moist and packs a salty peanut butter flavor. The small chocolate icing on top is not strong but helps give you the chocolate peanut butter combination. This flavor reminds me of 80% peanut butter and 20% chocolate combination. If you are a big peanut butter fan this is one that lives up to its name. I just wish the “Crunch” was a bit stronger.

Texture

And no soy protein ;)

Oh Yeah Blueberry Cobbler Protein Bar Review

Taste

Blueberry Cobbler – One Blueberry Cobbler is exactly as you would expect. The bar looks white with a white glazed icing on top of it. The second you bite into it the whole picture changes. You will notice a layer of crust (Cobbler) and the blueberry flavoring. Botha aspects mesh together to pin point what Oh Yeah was striving for. The blueberry flavoring is pure, but has a slight artificial aftertaste. blueberry, which knocks, off some points from me. The pie filling/crust flavoring is 100% on point and provides that rich, dense, and cinnamon graham cracker flavor from a true cobbler. There are a little hint of buttery aftertaste of a baked cobbler which also has a nice element added to the mix. While this a good bar it is not a top 3 flavor.

1)/2 Birthday Cake
1/2) Maple Glazed Donut
3) Cinnamon Roll
4) Almond Bliss
5) Blueberry

Texture

Oh yeah One bars are a good bar that can be eaten right out of the wrapper. If you do like to microwave bars this only needs a few seconds to melt in your mouth. ONE Bars are an ideal consistency that are not too soft (Mission 1 or Fitjoy like playdough), and not rock hard like some Quest bars can be.

Macros

8g Fat
24g Carbs
9g Fiber
20g Protein

A very good balance of macros for a protein bar clocking in at 220 calories. The only downgrade I gave the OH Yeah One bars is the amount of sugar alcohols included. 10g is excessive and leaves a hurting on my digestive tract.

My short review on Grenade Carb Killa Limited Edition flavor Banana Armor.

Managed to get a box of 12 from my local store today:

The exterior of the bar is no different from the other flavors with chocolate coating on the entire bar. There is no obvious banana smell either so you really can't tell if this is banana flavored from the outside.

Just like the other flavors it basically has two layers, the bottom part being the softer biscuit crump like texture and the top being the caramel sauce.

Overall, it's not a very strong banana flavored bar so for those who expect that you'll be disappointed. I only tasted CnC flavor prior to this so this is very similar but the big difference is the caramel sauce. I liked it and again solid product from Grenade. I'm hoping to try WCC next once it's available at my local store.

Score 9/10

I'm not all into these bars like some, and for me, the Costco ones can't be beat in the Price/Taste metric - but I just grabbed those Robert Irvine Brownies from Sam's Club, and they're good too. I think you get 16 for $20, so $1.25/ea

Just had new fitjoy flavor raspberry chocolate truffle. Thought I'd throw a quick review up.

Like other fitjoy bars they are a bit chewy, which I like.

This ones got a layer of chocolate on the bottom with a white layer atop, I'm assuming that's the raspberry truffle part.

Taste was delicious. U got a nice mix of chocolate and raspberry flavors merging together for a unique taste. If anyone has had this flavor, in coffee, in the k cup , you'll like it as it's similar in taste. Difference in that is the coffee is more raspberry and less chocolate while this is a true mix of both in each bite, yet the aftertaste is of a lingering raspberry taste.

Price 2.69 at gnc. Prob get cheaper elsewhere but still not a terrible tag.

Overall I put this right up there with birthday cake.

Rating: 9/10

Oh Yeah Salted Caramel Protein Bar Review

Taste

Salted Caramel - This one is very cut and dry here. The Salted Caramel flavor is strong and leaves a long lasting aftertaste. Right away you get the strong sweet and thick flavor of caramel. The Salted portion is the aftertaste. Think about biting into a snickers or milky way bar and getting the rich tasting caramel, and then this bar hits you with a sprinkle of salt to enhance the flavor. For this being a straight forward flavor it was done well. Do I thin its a top 5 flavor? For some possibly, for myself I would still give some others the edge. OH Yeah has been killing the flavoring lately and this is another good addition to the lineup.

1)/2) Birthday Cake
1/2) Maple Glazed Donut
3) Cinnamon Roll
4) Almond Bliss
5) Pumpkin

I'm actually eating a NitroTech Crunch cookie dough bar right now (just a quick snack in the office).

I have a sampler of the new ONE flavors coming and am excited to try them.

The white chocolate cookie Carb Killa is the best of the 4 flavors I tried and most unique, too.

Maple Glazed >> Blueberry >> Salted Caramel
There is a slight artificial taste in the blueberry (as you can see in my review)
I will have a review of the new MyBar Confetti cake Crunch next week for you guys.

Carb killa I agree the White Chocolate is the KING from the ones available in the US

I keep getting hung up on the "Excess consumption may have a laxative effect." note on the wrappers.

On a side note I really want to try those cake bites, I love ON protein powder in general.

Okay, so I grabbed a "make your own" 12 pack of ONE bars not too long ago. They're set up with 6 choices of pairs. I went with all flavors I haven't tried yet:

- Cinnamon Roll
- Chocolate Birthday Cake
- Blueberry Cobbler
- Salted Caramel
- Maple Glazed Doughnut (x2 just because of the reviews)

I have now tried all 5 flavors. Previously, I had tried Birthday Cake and Almond Bliss. My current rankings are as follows:

1. Maple Glazed Doughnut
2. Salted Caramel
3. Blueberry Cobbler
4. Cinnamon Roll
5. Almond Bliss
6. Birthday Cake
7. Chocolate Birthday Cake

Now, keep in mind, I know I haven't tried a lot of other flavors. But one thing I can say right off the bat is I'm a much bigger fan of the texture of the top 4 that I just tried. The Blueberry Cobbler has the crispiness layer in it, so it's different, but the other 2 new flavors (and Cinnamon Roll to a slightly lesser extent) are very soft. Not Quest chewy, but not hard to bite into whatsoever. And as I just had Chocolate Birthday Cake, it made me realize that I'm not a fan of that texture at least compared to the softer option. The flavor of Almond Bliss is solid and the same is true of the Birthday Cakes, but for an overall experience, they're just not in the same ballpark as the top 3 are for me (at least right now).

Blueberry Cobbler has a solid flavor and the texture is great. It's a very complimentary pairing with the crispiness to the softness. MGD and SC are both just flat-out soft, and I love it. Salted Caramel almost has a flavor that reminds me of the chocolate caramel flavor of the Pure Protein bars. And Maple Glazed Doughnut, as others have pointed out, just does an excellent job of picking up multiple flavors.

I will happily order any of those top 3 any time I want bars on hand. I'm looking forward to trying other brands and flavors out still. And it depends on your mood. But as of right now, I don't have a desire to order the birthday cakes again compared to these. And even the Carb Killa bars (with the exception of white chocolate cookie) don't sound as appealing to me. However, this could also be because this is new and I'd had a box of those, so I don't know.

ProSupps MyBar Confetti Cake Crunch Review

Taste

Confetti Cake Crunch - Birthday Cake flavor is usually a hit or miss flavor in the supplement industry. MyBar continues to do it again providing a top-notch flavored bar. You immediately get the vanilla cake taste, with a hint of cake batter in the aftertaste. Most protein bars are glorified vanillas and then characterized as Birthday cake, but this flavor hits all elements of a true birthday cake. This is right on the level with Oh Yeah One’s bar in flavor. The major difference is in the texture and amount of sprinkles Oh Yeah puts in their bar. If you prefer a crunchier outside with a soft inside this is your golden ticket. If you enjoy a very soft overall bar Oh yeah One’s is the way to go. I also found this bar to be not as sweet as Oh Yeah, which may appeal to the masses more if you do not have a massive sweet tooth.

Grenade has a 2nd birthday deal for Carb Killa bars through April 10th I believe is the end date -- 2 boxes for $50 shipped. I think you have to be on their e-mail list to get the link, though; I had to click out to find that specific link vs. trying to add 2 separate boxes.

I know but I'm running a tight ship here. Lol. Trying to keep the carbs between 70-120 sliding through the week then bump to around 250 once a week. Bars typically toss in an extra 24 carbs so def makes a difference

My bars are under 20g of carbs, so that still leaves you 50-100g to actually use for other sources which is plenty. especially if you get most of them from veggies.

If your having a cheat meal, go get a real cake, or some Donuts from Paula, not spending it on a protein bar.

Quest Nutrition Vanilla Caramel Hero Bar Review

Taste

Vanilla Caramel – This is easily the best flavor quest has ever produced in a protein bar, and here is why. The outside coating tastes exactly like cereal milk. It has a vanilla hint and then a very strong luscious aftertaste that is glorious and rich in flavor. The caramel glaze is pure, and has a bold creamy and sweet flavor. The best part is the center, which has the texture of a rice krispy treat. Even though it is crunchy, it still is similar to a Fit Crunch, Nitro tech crunch, and a My Bar. The bar right out of the wrapper does not even need heated to be enjoyed. All of the flavors congeal together to make a fantastic tasting bar. I would recommend these in a heartbeat.

Texture

These are different then regular quest bars, but in my opinion for the better. These provide an outside frosting, a caramel glaze and a very crunchy but soft inside texture. The inside has a crunch that reminds me of rice krispies cereal, but it has a brownie like texture. Quest really improved their basic bar into these hero bars. If you enjoyed the texture and consistency of the past, these are a massive step up.

Formula

Per Bar:
9g Fat
29g Carbs
16g Protein
10g Fiber

Includes: Protein Blend of (MPI, WPI), Soluble Corn Fiber (Prebiotic Fiber), Almonds (the crunchy inside center), Sea Salt (added flavoring), Xanthan Gum (thickener), Sucralose (Sweetener).

Cost

Quest Hero Bar is not released at the moment, but I do have some information on pricing. I saw Stack3d mentioned $2.76 a bar or $27.65 for a 10 pack. That is middle of the road cost for if you were to walk into your normal retailer store to pick one up. Quest Hero bar will be competitively priced, and will be a nice change of pace to the regual quest bars with an enhanced flavor and texture.

Worst comes to worst... You can always buy singles on some retailers. I even know some retailers that are providing free shipping.

I yea I definitely will do that. I've kicked my bar craving, I only really have one every once in a while or when I just simply can find any quality food around, like if I'm at a gas station or something .

Flavor-wise, I'm a disciple of the Musclepharm Combat Crunch bars. Cinnamon Twist, White Chocolate Raspberry, and Birthday Cake rocked my world... But with that being said, everyone and their mothers got into the protein bar game since I was stuffing those in my face. I wouldn't know where to begin now.

Prosupps MyBar & Oh yeah One Birthday are far better then MusclePharm by a long shot.

I don't doubt it. Next time I buy protein bars, I will certainly give one of those a shot. If either have some sort of cinnamon bun flavor, game over. I'm that weirdo that puts ground cinnamon in his coffee. I just love cinnamon...

Cinnamon Roll by Oh yeah
Iced Cinnamon Crunch by My Bar

Both >>>> MusclePharm

The real GOAT of Cinnamon is Cinnamon Twist Fit Crunch, and NOTHING comes close.
