Day 5 : 150

Yeah, one fugging pull up, executed with disgust.

Ok man. How do you hit 150 on one day and another you only get 1? Where the fak is your hairygrandpa-ness?

Hairygrandpa-ness postponed for tomorrow, to avoid getting arms like that:

I'm in. I average 864 pull ups every 6 weeks as standard so squeezing in an extra 1136 is certainly gonna grease the groove lol.

Welcome aboard! That is a good place to start from, this will be easy!

I took Sat/Sun off - I started back today, expecting to be rested, and my back and rear delts are stiffer than they have been ever. Was not expecting that. Anyone else actually getting DOMS in their triceps from this? It's crazy how pull ups activate muscles that you wouldn't think of.

Man, I'm all over the place in where I feel this too!

My first DOMS came in my lower lats/ribcage. Then last week I really felt it in my posterior delts. I also took the weekend off and today my forearms were feeling the wrath.

Still managed 85. Day 18 total is 1007.

Side note, I'm thinking an x-gels run and a 2000 pull-up challenge might not have been the wisest combo. Push comes to shove, the x-gels are out...I'm determined to hit 2000!

You are doing the work, the x-gels should increase the response! I have a feeling that after I hit 2000 and take 1-2 weeks off, U am going to continue to see growth. Pull ups are the squats of the upper body I guess.

After a few days off with the wife, back at it. Sundays total was 42 (paying for the food and drinks from Friday and Saturday), and today was 61 mixed grip. Day 19 total 509. I gotta get my a$$ in gear.

You can do this brother. You are fighting and that's what counts.

I hit 121 today, putting my day 22 total at 1,123. I did 5 pull ups this morning and felt so stiff I almost took a third day off. But I decided to go back and try again and with each set it got a little better. I got 11 sets of 9 throughout the day in addition to that 5.

Day 18...had a few days off and apparently it was needed!! 200 throughout the day, feeling right! Little sore...but right!!!!new total..900

Day 19...Definitely tight but managed to squeeze out 100 during my bicep workout. New total..1000. May take off tomorrow from them...or just do a few

Day 23. I couldn't do any during the day so I had to do only what I could during a normal workout. I got 71 reps in 10 sets. First set was 11 reps which is good considering that the most I've ever done is 13 when I was around 165 and I am around 190 now. Plus, I did 121 yesterday so it isn't like I was fresh. When I started this 3.5 weeks ago I was really struggling to do 45-50 of these in a workout.

71 + 1123 = 1194 total reps on day 23.

Wow so I guess I am at day 20 from when we got started and my numbers are not where I wanted them to be after trying to deal with my elbow in order not to inflame it. Right now I am @ 240 reps of the 1000 I planned to get in with how this is going. Yesterday was a bigger day for them I got in 22 which is the highest I have gone in one day since the last time I did it on day 4 and it hurt my elbow. So it seems working back up to that is working.

I also think this might be a little easier for me if I wasn't doing all of my pull ups off of rings and could use a more stable bar. However rings are what I have easiest access too, so I will just have to work a little harder for it.

Just keep going my man! It's about progress and getting better - you clearly are doing that if you hit 22 and your elbow isn't hurting anymore at that volume.

Didn't check in yesterday but I did the work. Got 64. Today I got 71. I do my pullups during my workout. I workout on my lunch break and I'm training somebody this week. My daily volume has dropped because I've had to shorten my lunch break by about 15 minutes. Cuts 2-3 sets of pullups out. Still getting what I can in the time I have!

Day 20 total is 1141.

"A little easier" is an understatement. I have rings at home. My max on the fixed bar is 13. My max on rings is 9. Kudos to you sir!

EDIT: Crossfitters make ring exercises look easy because all the motion and momentum they use. Doing strict pullups on rings is a b*tch!

Thanks! Yeah I am happy to be seeing progress as this particular issue has plagued me for about 8 months now.

Thanks a ton man! Good to hear that, going off of those numbers it looks like the ring pull ups are about 30% harder. Now I don't feel quite as bad about the numbers. LOL

I have begun to learn that sometime a nagging injury gets rested and doesn't heal. Using a light load and working a movement often helps. For instance I once had back pains...started doing 5 x 5s with squats 3x a week with light loads and the pain went away. Maybe steady pull ups will help.

Today's reps: 106

Day 24: 1300 total.

It is very possible, and damn I think you need to bump your total to 3000 you have 2000 in the bag!!!! Talk about an improvement. I would love to see some videos of some of you guys doing pull ups! I will take one of me doing one of my sets tonight. Maybe I will go all out for a 10 rep set... :)

Last night was good on the pull ups for me even though I was actually sore from doing the 22 the day before. I was feeling decent and the elbow seemed to be feeling well so I pushed things a bit harder.

NG-Neutral Grip, PG=Pronated Grip, SG=Supinated Grip

Pull Ups - NG=8, NG=7, PG=6, PG=5, PG=5, SG=4, SG=5 Total
= 40 total toward challenge for the day and 280 for the total @ day 21.

I know typically people will go from hardest to easiest but I need the NG first to warm up the brachialis more so the Pronated Grip doesn't cause me pain. The 10 rep goal I have set for myself is not 10 NG Pull ups, I could more than likely do that now if I pushed it, but 10 PG Pull Ups.

I am seeing some decent progress now and hope to see it continue. Right now my arm does not feel any worse for the wear, and did not hurt last night. That makes me happy considering I almost doubled my daily reps!!!!

Nice man! You were shooting for 25 and now suddenly can do 40?? I had a feeling that would happen for a lot of us that stick to it. I am really tired and likely taking today off, maybe tomorrow. 700 left and 2.5 weeks to do it, so I should hit it, but it hasn't been easy for me. I am hoping that if I take 2-3 days off now, it will be kind of a strategic move. When I come back rested, I hope to be able to bang out sets of 10 or 11 or 12 reps.

When I started, I was doing like you - all my pull ups during a workout. I couldn't even do 50 in 10+ sets. I was also stretching and sore. Then I started doing like some others on here and doing sets throughout the day - maybe 30, 45, or 60 minutes between sets depending on what I had time for. Obviously the daily volume went up, but it created less stress/pain and I never felt like I was killing myself, just doing the work. And now suddenly I can do 100-120 some days.

Yep that is the goal here and I SO wish I had a spot near me I could go do that throughout the day. Last nights pull up session was just that, not really a workout although I did do some bloodflow work for my biceps and delts once I finished with the pull ups.

My daughter started lifting with me and benched with the Oly Barbell for the 1st time last night. I wrote about it in my log. Oh and I know I mentioned my log was in my signature but I forgot most people can't see that on their phones so if anyone wants to follow along here it is.

My daughter has the bug right now and wants to train for a PL meet so I will also be documenting her progress there unless we decide to make her an account on here. I probably will if she sticks with it.

Kicking some ass HGP considering you having been ill your number is not bad at all!!!!

I did more ring pull ups, yesterday was not a great day for them. I hit 8 on my first set then only got 4 on the next one and decided the last f4 sets would just be explosive singles since I was obviously a little beat down in the back area.

I did record the first set of pull ups since I mentioned asking to see some people's sets. I always like to see the ROM people use among other things.

Nice, never did ring pull ups, we don't have them at my gym.
Will try to tape my weighted pull ups. I do them on a box to reach the handles. Coming down -my toes touch the box, for the last 3 I may pause a second, this way form does not suffer.

Day 22, knocked out 175 during my back lifts. Took a picture of my back just to kill my own curiosity, and was fairly amazed at the difference in my lats. Much more flare on them than before and I like it!! So on day 22 my new total is 1,175. Ill have my 2000 by the end of next week if I do like Im planning.

Haha....aren't YOU the one who is always saying that lighter weight and more reps builds muscle and is better for your old joints so that is what you are going to do? Then you strap on a 45 for pull ups? You make no sense sometimes, but I gotta love it. I love your crazy style.

Geez, hard to keep up with you even when I have a 3-4 day lead. Great work.

Today is day 28 for me...I took the last 3 days off in the hopes the recovery would have me coming back strong. I was kind of right, but not as right as I'd hoped. The first set of pull ups today, I still felt stiff and I actually felt weak, not rested and had to grind to get 11. It was a hard 11. I followed that with 8 more sets of 10 throughout the day and then did 39 during my workout tonight, finished at 130 for the day and 1,430 total.

Youre still crushing it my man. Yesterday amd today I triwd something new. I used a neutral grip, and "exploded" through the pull, let gonof the grips, and caught it on the the way down. Adds an extra burn!!

Everything you move above 10 reps is "lighter weight".
As I'm still way behind I thought I should at least make it heavier. LOL

Great Challenge. Just wanted to say thanks for posting it. I did a two week modified challenge of 200 push-up and 75 pull-ups and was done a week ago. Now with the rest I am killing the pull-ups and can see growth! HIT4ME
Nice work!

Had a lot of chaos in my life last week and didn't get nearly as many reps as I had been.

Day 22: 38 - Total 1179
Day 23: 32 - Total 1211

Took the weekend off but went hard again today. Was at 80 by the end of my workout and I knew 9 more would put me at 1300 even. So I dug deep and got them.

Day 26: 80 - Total 1300

I workout alone on my lunch break, but I'll try and find some way to get a video and post it.

Glad if it helps. I seriously think all the pull ups is having an impact on a lot of things for me....arms, shoulder health, posture, back width. It's amazing.

Great job. Life is always in the way. Having a challenging week and still getting work done is more than I can say I've done at times!

Today is day 29, I got 120 reps today which was hard after the 130 yesterday. Total: 1,550.

Got in another 100 today while working out, however I need a judgement. Since ai was doing biceps, I did 50 of those as chin ups. So I need a general consensus on whether to count them or not before throwing up my new total. HIT4ME?

See page 1 where hairygrandpa made the case that, being old, he couldn't do overhanded all the time or he would injure himself. So if you choose, any grip counts. I have done all my pull ups like a man though.

Please use the right pronouns. Pull ups and chin ups are gender fluid exercises.
