6-Weeks Pull Up Challenge

Holly Shyt I'm a major slacker. Had to go back to see when I last posted. Missed logging a couple days worth, and skipped quite a few. Got 42 yesterday and 63 today. Day 27 total 614.

Never started this with the idea of being done first, or even in 6 weeks. Just wanted to get better at pullups, even if it takes 12 weeks to finish I'm good with it.

Got in another 100 today while working out, however I need a judgement. Since ai was doing biceps, I did 50 of those as chin ups. So I need a general consensus on whether to count them or not before throwing up my new total. HIT4ME?

100% counts. Not sure that anybody on here is ever going to try and accuse you of sandbagging.

Please use the right pronouns. Pull ups and chin ups are gender fluid exercises.
:)

You keep telling yourself that hairygrandpa. Chin ups even sounds less manly. Just saying.

I think if you push you can still catch this in u see 7-8 weeks. The time or the reps...it don't matter. The struggle is all that matters.

I certainly will. Even when he isn't. I just like kicking him in the balls...just to see his response. But...I am a d1ck. ;)

Nice work HGP!
My ROM on my pullups. HIT4ME hairygrandpa

Damn man you made those look easy. You should record a maximum rep attempt and video it. Your physique is really coming along nicely!!!!

See page 1 where hairygrandpa made the case that, being old, he couldn't do overhanded all the time or he would injure himself. So if you choose, any grip counts. I have done all my pull ups like a man though.
Interesting you do them LIKE a man, and I am simply a man who does pull ups. :D

Just remember HGP this is coming from someone who is LIKE a man... Considering the source, I am not sure you can trust the judgement on what is or isn't manly. ;)

Day 27 total is 401 - I did 104 over the last 3 times I did pull ups. Last night I was not feeling it and only got 20 reps in but steady progress. I really wish I had a place nearby to do some pull ups a couple times a day. That would really help my totals.

First off, yes, LIKE A MAN. As opposed to "unlike" a man. Notwithstanding that, my judgement is always suspect.

Second - I have been doing all of these pull ups with my pink pocketbook, which is filled to the gills with mace, coins, lipstick, pills, whatever someone may need - and that has to weigh as much as HGP's plate.

Third of - not feeling it and still getting 20, when 20 was hurting your elbow to start? Seems like progress to me!

LMAO! Oh it was progress for sure. Speaking of progress, I hit 40 more mixed grip on the rings last night. So now up to 441. Making more progress just have to keep getting out there. I have been ramping it up and I am sure I will get my 1000 but now starting to think I may be able to do more than that if things keep progressing.

That is exactly how it happened for me too! Started off behind, then built. Of course, I'm going throughout the day too so that is a huge help having the long rests. Although, on the other hand, doing more throughout the day creates more to recover from and over time, it's actually begun to get harder.

I didn't have a chance to update, but I got 100 reps yesterday - putting me at 1,650 for day 30. So far I have 50 done for today, shooting for 75 today and tomorrow and then going to take some days off to recover....leaving 200 reps for the final week.

Didn't update yesterday, but got 52. Another 68 mixed grip today at work puts my day 29 total at 734.

I am proud of you brother. All you guys are workers. This is a hard hard challenge. But a challenge that can be accomplished and anyone who does it gets reapect in my book.

I finished out my day at 75 reps. Day 32, 1725 total.

I did not do any yesterday, I did not end up working out at all due to errands and stuff with Mother In Law... Will be hitting some up tonight with my workout.

Day 28...only gave myself an hour after my shift so I knocked out 50...yes only 50 before hitting the bed. Back on duty tonight for 36 straight hours between EMS and Fire. Will be crushing some tomorrow!! Day 28 total-1600.

Day 33, I was planning on banging out 75 to get to 1800 today. I grabbed the bar, did 1, and stopped. I am in some damned fine pain right now. My back is stiff like a board. I've been waking up in my sleep from the stiffness. I kind of planned on this, kind of "over reaching" as they say, but I'm going to take at least 3, maybe 4 or 5 days off now and come back for the final 275 reps.

I am noticing something good from all the reps though. I am REALLY getting a better mind/muscle connection when I do pull ups. It's not something I'm focusing on necessarily, but I can bang out 1 set of 10 now and my back starts getting pumped and I can really feel it. I am happy with this, as it shows I'm getting better neurological activation in my back and ultimately that should make this exercise more effective.

That sucks man!!! Hope it gets better quickly. Ive been getting plagued by a pain in my right bicep...right where the bicep meets the bend of the arm on the inside if the elbow. Hoping its not a tear.

Got a decent nights sleep (finally) and hit 78 today. Highest yet for me, with the most reps at once (15!). Nothing for you guys, but I'm pretty pleased with it. Day 30 total of 812. Probably still looking at 10 weeks to get it done.

Geez man. Don't injure yourself. My pain is just DOMS. It hurts so good.

Nice man. I have never hit 15 reps non-stop. 13 is my record and I weighed 165 at the time.

Didn't check in...but didn't miss a day this week either!

Day 27 (Tues) - 72 (1372)
Day 28 (Wed) - 102 (1474)
Day 29 (Thur) - 104 (1578)
Day 30 (today) - 104 (1682)

I've found my stride with sets of 8. This was the third set from today.

Same here...
We are "puzzy-men". You a regular puzzy-man, I a hairy puzzy-man.

While I don't disagree that you can be a puzzy hairygrandpa ....real puzzies are quitters. Taking longer to achieve something doesn't mean as much as achieving it. Better late than never. And it is hard to give you a hard time for doing pull ups with weights ...strange strategy, almost like you like failure....haha.

But we're both much better looking than they are, so at least we have that going for us.

I know. You had me at nipples.

But we're both much better looking than they are, so at least we have that going for us.
Yes, I know. We look way too good.
Shaking hands and kissing all the girls in the gym is interrupting the pulling sessions.

None for me today (yet, anyway). 100% of 10 rep max HST workout was today. It was rough enough on it's own. Can't imagine throwing a bunch of pullups in on top of it.

Day 29...knocked out 100 but my first set was to see what I can do. No video, sorry but I was able to hit 23 wide gripped. Pretty stoked. New total...1700!

Day 31 - I got 50 reps Friday over the course of the workout during rest periods, then did 2 25 rep sessions Saturday and Sunday to try and catch up to get the 1000 by the end. So I am sitting at 591 now, 409 to go in 10 days. Gonna be some work for me since the elbow is a little tender after the weekends work.

Day 33 = 691 I have managed to get in 2 sessions of 25 the last few days keeping daily totals at 50 I should hit the 1000 in 7 days at this pace. So 1 under the 42 days. Talk about cutting it close.

Mission Accomplished

It is funny how meaningful those numbers actually are. At the end, when it's all done, and you look back, it all "fits" right? Like, it seems so easy. You just did 8,8,8,8,8 - and it all added up over time. Just a bunch of 8's and some consistency. But I bet before a lot of those sets, you had hesitation. The anticipation of effort. And you overcame it and it may just look like a series of numbers, but there is a real story there. I really like the way you laid it out. 5 weeks of achievement, all on one page. Boiled down to the simplest terms. I actually, in a weird way, find a lot of motivation in this. Thanks for keeping that log and for posting it.

As for me, I took 4-5 days off. My back has been STIFF. I figured I'd go back yesterday and pull ups would be easy, but I did my first pull up and that stiffness came right back. 4-5 days was not enough time to fully recover. Oh well - I will recover when I am done!

I got 100 out yesterday, which put me at 1,825 reps. So far today I have done 60 reps and I am shooting to finish at another 100, which will leave me 75 reps for tomorrow. Sunday is day 42 for me. Then I don't want to see a pull up for at least a week, maybe 2. Yeah, 2 sounds good.

Bad ass and REPPED!!!!

Thank you sir. It was a fun and challenging journey.

Looks like the voynich manuscript. LOL

Awesome!

I had to check google for this. I died laughing. Funny and educational!

And if I had any compelling excuse for my terrible catscratch...it's that I had always just finishing up doing pull-ups!

You said that perfectly. I started looking for a "groove". I settled on sets of 8 as my target because it was like going 1-rep short of failure. It set up me up to be able to do it again a few minutes later. The log shows even when I started targeting 8's my daily totals varied. Sometimes it was time constraints and sometimes it was just lack of ability. But keeping the log like that and watching the number just creep towards 2000 kept me motivated to not quit.

Yesterday went pretty easy and I halfway expected to coast to the finish line. Ironically today was the hardest I've had in a while. Almost as if it were a final challenge to get past. After my second set I almost said, "Nope, I've got plenty of time, I can do it tomorrow". But I knew I wasn't going to physically hurt myself pushing through, and I kept looking at that log...so I said "f*ck it" and ground it out.

Thank you for putting the challenge up! In the beginning I had no idea if I could do it. But I knew I'd go all the way till the end trying. When I realized I was on pace to hit it before 6 weeks was up, I thought, "I'll keep going and see how many I get in 6-weeks!" Now I'm thinking what you said sounds good...a few weeks with no pull-ups!

I'm still staying in the thread to cheer everybody on. The goal you set was 2k pull-ups...but I think WINNING is not giving up. So for anybody still doing pull-ups (NO MATTER THE REPS), don't give up, stay the course, and see exactly what you can achieve!!!

Well said my friend. Thanks for kicking the snot outta this one! Glad you enjoyed it and I am proud of you!

And you are right about winning. And you never fail if you keep trying...so someone who started and has fallen off can start again and try again - who knows? They may be the one that motivates someone who isn't in the thread yet..

I think I found an error in your counting, Angrypolak , you have to count again from the start.

:naughty:

Lol...how do you know for sure? Isn't it in a secret code Von-man?

I got 100 I'm today, putting me at 1,925 reps. 75 to go.

Yeah, I too counted 1995. Pretty darn close though. Props to you Angrypolak:notworthy:

I admit, I trusted my math along the way and didn't recount. I'm not going to bed not hitting the goal, so I just did 12 more (sets of 7 & 5) on my rings in the garage for self-assurance!

Man, I thought they were just joking so I just spent time and added it all up....You were dead on until the day you hit 1,682. It looks like you did 12 sets of 8 (96) and totalled 13 sets of 8 (104). So, 8 had you off by 8...putting you at 1995 and officially making you a cheater! Lol, j/k.

The extra 12 put you over. Way to make it happen.

Well, I actually was joking. :) Turns out Angrypolak is in fact a cheater.

kidding

My evil master plan was foiled! Complete only 1995 and cheat my way to 2000!

The real takeaway, NOT going into accounting was a wise choice.

LMAO - actually, what you just described sounds a lot like what a corporate accountant actually does! You were CFO material.

And to be honest - there is a certain beauty in that single page ...honestly. there is something about it that I really can't put my finger on. Normally I log things by day...but that method was much more...I don't know...elegant.

Still, we have to deal with the fact you cheated and punishment must be dealt. I think the only appropriate thing to do is to void your efforts completely and make you start over from scratch.

I normally log by day. Ironically enough I went went with a cumulative log to avoid errors.

Good call on the punishment too. Cheaters must be delt with swiftly and an example must be made!
