Donald Trump running for president

Totally agree with the ladder part. College is just a way for them to take more of are money imo. Collgege is great and all, but you can definitely to much much less and achieve the same; if they had job specific training, other then just like welding, mechanics, and stuff like that.

I am basically computer illiterate...but I learned to set up and run a flexo folder/gluer that had many robotic elements. I would be willing to bet that someone who had a college degree would not even be able to start that machine with no training...so, they hire a guy will a college degree and then have to train that guy on how to operate the machine-this makes absolutely no sense to me!!!

let people come in to apply for a job, give them an aptitude test, if they have the proper aptitude for the job hire them and train them---the government should offer tax breaks for companies that do this!!!

better yet, hire people with the right aptitude and start them off at entry level and let them learn from the ground up...if they are incapable of advancing get rid of them.

Sounds like you do have kids, lol. You know about the squares. :)

I've got a buddy with 3 of them in elementary school and it was all he could do to keep from choking their teachers. I've heard too many stories from my mother trying to help my niece with her homework. I've tried a couple times and it's beyond absurd.

The idea of teaching critical thinking for math is the dumbest thing they ever dreamed up. If you don't teach kids simple math to be done in their head, they won't make it through the real world. Half the time, they can't even punch it in to a calculator and cheat because they have to show the damn square method or get it counted wrong. Even though the answer is correct.

Hows dtpv3 comparing to test-rx so far? I would ask in your log but chuck can be a dick(nice guy 99% of the time he also super honest but you never know what will randomly tick him off)

DTP V3 kicked in much faster...feeling better results already at only 8 days in....test-rx is good, but DTP V3 is better, imo.

geez, I have 2 granddaughters and a 3rd on the way-the oldest is 3. this is just one of many reasons I hope trump wins, liberals have really screwed up the education system, among many other things.

If you can explan how you arrived at the wrong answer, you still get credit. But the kid still won't know 12x12=144 in their head.

The vast majority of people will NEVER need to use any significant amount of critical thinking when doing math. Yeah, it comes into play and is extremely important in calculus (I had to take Calc 1-3 and Differential Equations), but how many people are ever really going to need to know how to do calculus? Very few. Very basic trig is actually pretty useful sometimes though, and basic geometry can also be very useful (knowing how to calculate the area and perimeter of various shapes like triangles and circles can come in handy for house and yard work and buying materials for example). I see what they're trying to teach with math, and what they want to teach (I think, but they're doing such a bad job at it I don't know) is something I use in regular daily calculations (but we all have advanced calculators on our phones anyway, hell, I can do a lot of calculus on my phone with Wolfram), but having a strong knowledge of the basic multiplication tables is vital to those calculations, and is something I learned very well by pure memorization in elementary school.

g'damned liberal agenda...common core needs to go!!!

trump has promised to get rid of it...emaillary endorses it...the choice is clear!!!

memorization is weight training for the brain....use it or lose it, rely to much on calculators and computers and the brain starts to look like a skinny guy at the beach.

It's so far into the weeds, that kids don't know how to process a problem to input it into the calculator to begin with.

That video is insane. Again, they took a legitimate concept and completely mutilated it. If you show all your work, AND IT IS ALL CORRECT AND ACCURATE, and you make a mistake and write the wrong answer on the answer line, then yeah, you should still get credit, as you demonstrated you know how to do the work, but if your process and logic are wrong, and you arrive at the wrong answer, I don't care if you wrote a damn book explaining it, it's still wrong. There shouldn't even be any need for explaining such basic elementary math. Yeah, showing work is pretty necessary in algebra and on, but not 3x4. It's 12. F**k your explanation, it's 12 because that's how math works. It's always going to be 12, so it's an accepted fact and acceptable to memorize. Now, in higher math, showing your work is vital, as in a page or two long calculus equation, a simple error in addition or subtraction, or transposing two numbers can give you a completely wrong solution, and that way professors can see that you demonstrated understanding of the material and process, but it's insane to try to apply that same logic to such elementary calculations. I'd hate to see the work you have to show for solving a simple binomial equation with this process when you have to explain why 3x4=12.

when I was in high school only the top 10 percent went to collage..but then again my high school degree from 1976 is worth a bachelors degree compared to todays education.

instead of pushing collage for everyone they need to improve the education of grades 1-12 and bring back on the job training....the government should offer companies incintives to train people for jobs, it would be specific training for a specific job-kind of like an apprenticeship program-this is what they did back in the day....there are very few jobs that actually need 4 years of collage to be able to do, imo...and those jobs usually involve more than 4 years anyways!!!

Yes, I feel like the quality of education here is lacking, from what I've been hearing from people. I admit I don't know too much about it down here. I think bell-curves are used far too often just to pass people and try to improve a school's appearance, and I keep hearing complaints about common-core. Common-core math specifically.

In Canada, we had 3 levels of study in high school, basic (for learning impaired), general level, and advanced. Advanced students went to university. General level went to community college (trade schools, etc, i.e. Design, nursing, chem eng), advanced level could go to university (advanced sciences, computer, medical, biology, maths, some arts programs, engineering, etc.

Common core definitely needs to go. But I still wouldn't vote Trump just for that. Ugh things are such a mess down here politically :( I truly wish the two party system vanishes here soon.

Times tables aren't taught at all now. Teachers don't want students memorizing them. My niece struggled like crazy this year with math and my brother nor her grandmother could make heads or tales of the crap they wanted her to do to solve it.

If you don't have a kid in elementary school in the last 5 years or so, you have no idea how fcked up it is.

I agree with this. I've heard nothing but frustration from American parents online. Common-core needs to be thrown out.

What about all the people they are letting in the country and the illegals they will give amnesty to?

Once that happens, it's over.. millions of instant dumbacrats voting!

In Canada? Or the US? I know in Canada, the people who've been given asylum have been helping out during disasters up there. Tons of Syrians were helping out in Fort McMurray when the whole city was a blaze, and many were displaced. It was incredible to see them come to aid.

the reason you don't see republican protesters...they have jobs and are at work!!!

the reason why republicans hate emaillary....republicans will have to pay for all the promises she is making!!! FREE COLLAGE...are you kidding me?

"What you just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things i have ever heard, at no point in your rambling incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought, everyone in this thread is now dumber for having listened to it, i award you NO points, and may god have mercy on your soul"

The problem goes further imo. Based
On my job I work with kids everyday. Not only are particular skills for academics lacking, but that lack of skill set also translates into actual life problem solving skills. Kids by and large panic over everything. To make
It worse, as a result, mommy and daddy constantly have to try and "plow the road" to get rid of all obstacles. The kids never develop the skills. I could tell you stories that would make your head spin.

My 1985 SAT score of 1390 is worth about 1550 on the 1600 scale currently, or 2300 on the 2400 sadly.

You're right, what's interesting is when the federal student loan program came out, guess what? It only applied to engineering degrees. Because we need more engineers, not more literature majors. The left has continued its marketing plan of you need a degree to be a real person and it doesn't matter what it's in. That's not the purpose of a degree AT ALL. It is a certificate that you have the basic skills to be able to work in that field. Your doctor doesn't have his Phd diploma up on the wall because he's proud that he managed to survive it, it's proof he has the requisite skills. But a degree in Paranormal Literature of the 19th century has roughly 0 usability in terms of finding gainful employment.

Mike Rowe's foundation is a great idea. Regardless of what the left thinks, it doesn't require a degree to be an auto mechanic, a welder, a lathe/mill operator, etc. Real world? A huge amount of the jobs in this country are like those. Require skilled labor and pay decently too

a shortage of 200,000 welders nationwide by 2020.

Like in other professions, pay increases with experience. New journeyperson-level welders can make between $40,000 and $51,000 per year, while salaries for experienced welders range from $50,000 to $67,000.

Same as what GOOD bachelors get paid. And if you get into more specialty welding (work with aluminum, underwater, etc) it can go way higher.

This just isnt true. Education wise high schoolers are smarter then ever. Common sense, job readiness, social skills hell ya we are way behind past generation.

What do you think makes high schoolers "smarter than ever" ? That they know how to install apps? If an education isn't about common sense, job readiness and social skills, what is it? The purpose of an education isn't supposed to be "making you into a well rounded person" it is to prepare you for the real world after graduation.

Rote learning is stupid, because it doesn't enable you to deduce what an answer is when it falls outside of the numbers you learned. People know 12x12=144, but 12x13 and they have no clue and spend a great deal of time trying to work it out.

Teach them how to work out a multiplication in their head and they can solve much larger problems later on. The old system only covered the first 12 positive integers.
Many people blame lack of education on the govt, but in reality you are responsible for your own education. I personally spend each day learning something new. Reading text books, journals, brain training, e-books and more just to further imprive upon my knowledge base and deductive reasoning skills.

School didnt teach me everything, it simply cannot. School and university taught me how to learn and where to look. Learning is an ongoining process in which we are the ones in charge of.

People simply do not take ownership of their learning. They use free time to watch tv and read facebook.

LOL I immediately thought when they showed the people in the crowd during Clintons speech was that they looked soft and the kids that weren't picked when we lined up for dodgeball.

She's going to ride that first woman in office, whore out her family for everything she can get. Bill looked like he had consumed too many roxies, at one point his eyes were closed with his mouth wide open shaking his head yes like a robot. ****ing Clinton ****bag...

My boy (10) plays on a 10u major travel team with a hard ass coach. The nipple babies and hover parents just can't make it even if lil johnny has the skills. It's the parents today that suck.

Lucky for me I was raised by a Brooklyn born ball player that was born in '27...Was tough, be he taught me how to be a man.

For 12x13 I'd just do 12x12 and add another 12 to it after. Rote memorization isn't a good way to learn math, but it does come in handy for 1-12 x 1-12. Either way, if you practice how to "actually" do these easy 1-12 problems enough, you will end up memorizing them anyway.

companies get tax breaks if...they set up classroom studies run by skilled professionals 3 days a week, the other 2 days they do actual training in the field....this is not a new idea, this is how it used to be done---i have no clue why they stopped doing this!!!

I disagree. You do rote learning for the very basic bottom layer as those are all things you shouldn't have to think about. Multiplication tables are done by 3rd grade or so. And then after that you learn the "how to go past those".

young people are amazed when I do math in my head, lol. I guess they weren't taught basic math skills!!!

Memorization is useful for the basic multiplication tables IMO. Of course, you also have to teach the actual process and concept of multiplication and how to do the various multiplications on the tables (I don't think anyone is suggesting that the only method of teaching basic multiplication is giving students tables with no explanation of how to actually get the answers), but I remember using flash cards and some websites/computer programs to do basic multiplication for time/speed, and I found it to be very useful.

Apparently you didn't look at the links I posted about how they teach kids to do 2 digit multiplication. It's a damn 5 step process. Using the method we were taught, you can multiply many digit numbers, because you should know your memorized multiplication tables. Each digit only goes to 9, so at most you know 9x9. Then you carry over and add to next digit.

Whomever said kids are smarter today, no. Just saw on the news a local 7-11 was flash mob robbed last night. Really? That's organized looting. Go get a job with your "more educated" self.
