Yet to be seen. Even proposing that public schools should teach bible class, in a free society where all religions are to be respected, is pretty messed up.

Educational programs do not have all their content legislated. Even with common core, it is guidelines + ideas, not direct subject material

I think they are left leaning as they're in NY, but they are certainly not a tabloidist, leftist propaganda machine like some other media outlets out there.

And yes, I don't think ANY religion should be taught in PUBLIC schools. Are schools teaching from the Koran? It's one thing to teach world religion in school (an optional class) but teaching from the Koran or the Bible or anything like that goes against what freedom in America stands for. Teaching people awareness of what different religions are is one thing, but I don't think any public school should be asked to say the Lord's Prayer, or give actual teachings from within any religion. People go to private school or catholic school for that.

We've already discussed the new GOP platform in here, when it was announced. I'm sure you should know what it is since you're a conservative, but ok, I'll post it up again today to discuss.

Just to make it clear, I don't support the Democrats or Conservatives. I don't support the two party system in the US, and I greatly support 3rd parties. So far, I associate most with the Libertarian platform.
 
Also, just to be clear, I attended Catholic school growing up. I also attended public school. We had a World Religions class in public school which taught us all awareness of various religions, but it didn't preach. I don't believe preaching of any sort should be in any public school which house various religions in it's students. Let people choose their religion and personally practice. This is freedom.

I actually taught that same class at the High School I used to work at for years. It was informational only and not a conversion attempt.

Free college is crazy. But the education system in the US is definitely biased around those who have the most money.

We have ivy leagues up in Canada, and they decide who enters based on who has the best grades. This is common sense to me, but in the US, all institutions suffer from greed and corruption. Not saying Canada is immune though.

But yeah, we can't afford to give anything away for free.

Canada is great, but you'll need to buy new clothes! Winters up there are cold! But Canada makes the best of it, so many winter sports / winter recreation up there, and almost always a white Christmas

when I was in high school only the top 10 percent went to collage..but then again my high school degree from 1976 is worth a bachelors degree compared to todays education.

instead of pushing collage for everyone they need to improve the education of grades 1-12 and bring back on the job training....the government should offer companies incintives to train people for jobs, it would be specific training for a specific job-kind of like an apprenticeship program-this is what they did back in the day....there are very few jobs that actually need 4 years of collage to be able to do, imo...and those jobs usually involve more than 4 years anyways!!!

My dad had a house up in the Adirondacks Mountains. Once I got done with skrewel we packed up the car and up we went.

I remember being ten and spending the entire day with my hatchet and fishing pole in the wood on the Hudson. Come home to one channel we could pick up eat and go to bed. No net no cable...we really enjoyed ice cream and watching the bears at the dump from the car. OMg the tree forts my brothers made were unreal.

I wouldn't let my ten year old know where my hatchet was if I still had it.

lol...I have raised 3 grown children and know what they were taught in high school. I learned as a freshman what they were taught as seniors--and I went to a poor inner city school and they went to a township school....

I don't think there is ANY job outside of a professional position like doctor or lawyer, school teacher, engineer, scientist that couldn't be taught with on the job training....of course 1st you would have to be tested for aptitude so you could be placed in the job best suited for you.

isn't undergraduate studies a kind of on the job training?

Totally agree with the ladder part. College is just a way for them to take more of are money imo. Collgege is great and all, but you can definitely to much much less and achieve the same; if they had job specific training, other then just like welding, mechanics, and stuff like that.

I dont know what our talking about times tables are taught at 3 grade, atleast for me. Then again the did change the core standard for math and laguage arts 2 years ago.

Times tables aren't taught at all now. Teachers don't want students memorizing them. My niece struggled like crazy this year with math and my brother nor her grandmother could make heads or tales of the crap they wanted her to do to solve it.

If you don't have a kid in elementary school in the last 5 years or so, you have no idea how fcked up it is.
