Why isn't acetic acid more popular?

Yes, that's right. Vinegar. It seems to be magical.

It helps control glucose metabolism and mediates insulin response, which is why it has a long history with diabetics.

This even appears to extend to nutrient partitioning effects, with an increase in glycogen replenishment.

Oxidation of fatty acid may be enhanced by a combination of pomegranate fruit phytochemicals and acetic acid in HepG2 cells

It's also dirt-cheap and complementary with a lot of flavorings.

So what's the downside? The more I read about it, the harder time I have seeing why it isn't included in a lot of products.

Lulz, I just recommended this to Boone. I drink ACV daily and notice the glycogen replenishment, zero bloating, and improved digestion from it

ACV was heavily recommended in the past. I hate the taste though lol

For me it tears my stomach up something awful like full runs. I wish someone would come near me with it, it would rip their fking eyes out.

It has some popularity for those that can stomach it. It has a pH of 2.4 which is pretty damn acidic...water is a 7 for instance. As to why it isnt included in supplements, the main reasons I see are that its liquid at room temperature, the acidity, and if someone wants it they can just go for some vinegar

I was gonna joke that some company should slap an ethyl ester on it to make it sound sexy...but that would kill the user :)

It also has an interesting synonym, "Glacial" (glacial acetic acid), that kinda sounds cool.

Or you could just drown everything you eat in balsamic vinegar (I just like the taste)

I'm not sure of there is a clear downside to it. Go get yourself some!

2 Cups (diluted) every day. Heinz came out with a raw, unfiltered, with 'Mother' version for like $3 a quart.

I believe in order to reap the benefits listed in the OP, it needs to be taken in a bolus fashion prior to a meal, not over an extended period of time. I could be wrong though. Been a while since I looked into it

Love acidic-tasting anything, can drink it from the bottle and often do :)

In the 4-hour body book though, author measured his blood sugar in response to acv and lemon juice and found that only the lemon juice attenuated the spike. Yeah I know, n=1.

I know a guy who swears vinegar with a high carb meal increases pumps when taken pre workout.

I just can't stand the taste, even diluted it is so harsh lol.

I'm thinking that drinking this stuff would have the same effect as whatever that stuff is they give you to prep for a colonoscopy. The first time I had one they gave me this gallon jug of it. You literally have to sit on the toilet when drinking it, because it will come out the other end in about 30 seconds...My second one I don't believe they gave me anything like that.

Wtf told you you guys you need so much. A table spoon or two of vinegar and a table spoon or two of lemon juice precarb feed imeeals is quite effective as a GDA.

Btw this is so "20 minutes ago" news I'm surprised it's so surprising to anyone.

Yeah, the research on it is definitely ancient.

The part that's surprising to me is that the ingredient isn't utilized in commercial formulations; I have to imagine throwing a gram of sodium acetate (or whatever) into a PWO or similar supp would be pretty cheap and effective.

I didn't realize so many people had such bad reactions to it, though. Diluted with a bit of sweetness to go along with it, I actually like the flavor, and I find it complements a lot of other things (e.g. Ergonine) quite nicely with a bit of tartness. I've had nothing but positive observations on digestive health, too, but it sounds like it's a very YMMV thing for people.

Even the issue of the ph being so low or acidic is quite beneficial. Most have a higher ph digestive and inflammatory intestinal environment that the acidic supplementation is quite a relief to digestion at least anecdotally speaking for myself.

Like many people said, its not commonly used because people react poorly to it. It's actually been touted for many years in the natural medicine community (honey as well). Growing up, my parents always added vinegar to food so I can stomach it quite well.

Yeah its not a lot but its the taste moreao than the acidity for me. Lemon juice I can suck outta a lemon but vinegar is just plain nasty lol

1 tbsp pre bed of Braggs diluted in some water. From memory there are studies showing detrimental effects on bone/teeth with constant use, so I tend to dose 5 or so nights a week especially if I'm doing fasted cardio in the morning.

I imagine it depends if it has the ability to change blood pH levels or not. If you make the blood more acidic you may experience some calcium carbonate loss from bones. Although, this was the idea behind too much protein being bad but I believe this didn't really pan out much

So what's the consensus on effective dosing? The liquid vinegar would be fine but if the Now Food caps are just as effective I'd be willing to pay the extra cash.

Really? Great in studies an all but does 2 table spoons of vinegar really produce bone loss? Seriously? Think about it (nonsensically) for just a second if you could...possibly!?

I think you may have misread my post. I wasn't suggesting it's use was detrimental. I was responding to a post that stated they remember reading it was detrimental to bone health. My comment was me purely speculating a way it MAY be detremential. I even closed the post by pointing out the mechanism by how it might be detremential is the same one people use to criticize protein intake and how that didn't pan out (meaning it is unlikely that ACV = bad for bones).

Count me as one who also actually loves the taste. I never knew about the GDA properties, just a 'general health' and (for me) Lactic Acid buffering. I take it pre-cardio. I use a straw, and just rinse with water - no brushing, as I read your enamel is softer right after consumption. I used to order Bragg's off of Amazon, but Heinz Raw is now in my grocery... so cheap.

Careful bro, onion juice triples testosterone so it is probably suppressive.

Better taper. ;)

~half a teaspoon and usually just take the same about of creatine with just because they work so well together, but the creatine does not really help the ph.

You have to be careful with the baking soda because it can go right through you too if you are not careful, but I think there is a tolerance that is built up and if you take it after having anything in your stomach(even just sups) you will not have that problem.

i wake up with two tablespoons and go to sleep with two tablespoons daily. If your stomach gets to acidic, it's great for bloating and digestion.
