lol, when i was that age i prolly weighed 80 lbs!

interesting visit w the endo today. labs are all fck'd up, let's start w them:

test - 549 4 days after injection, he said i was prolly over 1K at peak. that's too high for me
e2 - 36, woo hoo, this i am happy with
cholesterol - 190
ldl - 95
triglycerides - 323 (high, range is 35-160) meh, who cares
insulin - 128, whoa, range: 3-25 he is concerned about this
igf-1 - 412  range 94-252 he's concerned about this too
liver enzymes ok, renal enzymes heading towards the high end of normal
hemoglobin - 20
hematocrit - 59  i think i got caught on both of these. labs were drawn about a month after i finished my blast prior to worlds. red blood cell half life is around 90 days. he kind of raised his eyebrow at me for a second.

thoughts

first off, my endo is awesome. he's around 40, arab, assistant professor at wayne state, just opened a 2nd practice and does diabetes research, but also has like 400 guys on some form of test. he knows what's up, as long as my test levels are within range when i get tested, everything is ok w him. sometimes i do feel like an experiment w him though. he also did a thyroid ultrasound on me because he thought my thyroid felt a little big. no nodules and thyroid enzymes are ok, so we're just going with it. now to the problems: first off, igf-1 AND insulin are waaaayy high. let's put it this way: my body is very anabolic right now. a little too anabolic for a guy my age. he's dropping my gh dose in half, so now it'll be 1/2 iu per day. i've been on 1 iu/day for almost two years. igf-1 is a proxy for gh, it's levels mimics gh so that's what they test for. i could see him trying to figure out all this shyt in his head while we were talking. as big as his practice is, i'm guessing i'm the only patient of his with labs like this. i don't think he's sees this kind of shyt everyday, i'm not his typical patient.

he's (temporarily) putting me on metformin, a type 2 diabetes drug. he says the decrease in my gh dose will bring down the igf-1 and insulin levels. he says i'll come off of it when the labs improve. we are also dropping my test dose to 50 twice a week and i'm cool with that. i'm pretty sure my hemoglobin and hematocrit are lower now because the extra rbc's have died off. just how much lower i don't know. 1k is too high a test level for me obviously. he's having one of his nurses look for a place where i can dump some blood. i can't donate because h&h are fck'd up. the enlarged thyroid he told me is an organ, when there's a lot of gh floating around, it grows just like everything else.

see boys: drugs are bad mmkay?

got this off of wiki:

Metformin treatment of people at risk for type 2 diabetes may decrease their chances of developing the disease, although intensive physical exercise and dieting work significantly better for this purpose. In a large U.S. study known as the Diabetes Prevention Program, participants were divided into groups and given either placebo, metformin, or lifestyle intervention, and followed for an average of three years. The intensive program of lifestyle modifications included a 16-lesson training on dieting and exercise followed by monthly individualized sessions with the goals to decrease the body weight by 7% and engage in a physical activity for at least 150 minutes per week. The incidence of diabetes was 58% lower in the lifestyle group and 31% lower in those given metformin. Among younger people with a higher body mass index, lifestyle modification was no more effective than metformin, and for older individuals with a lower body mass index, metformin was no better than placebo in preventing diabetes.[21] After ten years, the incidence of diabetes was 34% lower in the group of participants given diet and exercise and 18% lower in those given metformin.[22] It is unclear whether metformin slowed down the progression of prediabetes to diabetes (true preventive effect), or the decrease of diabetes in the treated population was simply due to its glucose-lowering action (treatment effect).[23]

I thought your valleys were always around that 500 mark? Wouldn't 549 be about on par for 4 days post injection?

in that area, but all of this stuff is affecting everything else. time to back off for a while. i feel better around 750-800, so 50 twice a week will put me in that area, so that's not a big deal. over 1k is too high. it's the insulin and igf-1 levels that are most surprising to me.

Hot dang! That all sounds like a complicated heap. At least you and your doctor are on the same page. What are your thoughts on the metformin ATM? My dad's on it, but he ate his way into Type 2. He's always bitching about how it gives him the runs. Funny enough, he was asking me about these testosterone supplements he saw on TV commercials the other day. I told him he might as well talk to his doctor about TRT.

i'm thinking the metformin will be temporary, so i'm not too worried. hope i don't get the runs though!

dude, this shyt is a delicate balance. if one thing is out of whack, other things will be too. this is the first time i've had labs like this. physically i feel great, but we gotta nip this shyt in the bud, those igf-1 and insulin levels are really really high. lol, if i wasn't afraid of the fork i'd weigh 225, that's how high those levels are. weird thing is i'm prolly 15-16 % bf, it's not like i'm ripped or anything.

my pituitary, she don't work so good...

bench

warmup up blah blah

shirt
315x2 2 board
315x2 2 board
340 2 board
365 2 board
375 1 board

more progress, shirt is feeling more comfortable, and is easier to get on every time. had no trouble until the 375, got it up, locked the right, but not the left. mental mistake, should have had it. i'm pretty sure i'll be able to touch 400 Rodja, with no modifications, it would have taken 450 to touch, but with everything i've done to it, i'm confident i'll touch 400. now i just have to put in the work, 12 weeks till nats.

on another note, i got my ass chewed (unexpectedly) by big clay. after the doubles, he just went off saying i wasn't contributing enough today. now that i've thought about it, i see where he was coming from. but in my defense, the guys i train w everyday were doing steep inclines. that's not a good movement for me, so i basically warmed up by myself to get the shirt on. and once i got the shirt on, well i'm pretty much useless. his thing was i was off by myself, and not with everyone else. i do see where he's coming from.

now the good part, after i retrieved my ass from his mouth, he came over and said 'if i didn't like you, i wouldn't say anything. there's 5 guys over there i don't give a fck about. i want you to be one of us.'

so you just take the ass chewing and move on...

225x5
275x3
315x3 - stopped there, no pain today and i didn't want to push it too soon

thoughts
squats felt good, i don't think i was favoring my right side today. first time i've had 3 wheels since i got hurt Nov 1. jj was checking out my squat and saw something he didn't like, and i had absolutely no idea i was doing: he said my hands are moving at the end of each rep, like i'm regripping the bar. i did it like 3 sets, and even after he pointed it out, i still did it a couple reps on the last set. i wish i would have took a vid now. i'm going to go back and look at some old tape to see if i was doing it then too. kind of an odd thing to be doing. any thoughts? i've always used a false grip if that matters.

didn't pull a lot today, but had no pain so i should be good to go next week.

Nice work here, man. Looks like you've moved on from your injury at worlds and just need to build the confidence to handle squats you used to handle. The deadlifts are definitely nice. I do think you're starting a little high on them but maybe for your body it's just right.

Hey bud, glad to see you back!

Yup, confidence and repetition at this point for the squats - and the bench shirt for that matter.

And the general consensus is I gotta keep my ass down at the start of my dl. JJ wants me to just look forward, not down. Your ass can't be up if you're looking forward. Did better yesterday, but didn't have much weight in the bar.

160x3 in reality, i didn't need the chains, the stack is 240 :(

chest supported db rows
100x5
120x5
140x2

form wasn't even considered for either the lat pull downs or db rows. the idea was to move weight

thoughts
hung in there pretty good today, happy w the 625. however, i still can't figure out if my groinal region is going to let go. i got through everything fine, but i def notice it. on a scale of 1-10, i'd call the pain a 1 before, and a 1.5 after. it's like throbbing a little but doesn't really hurt. i didn't get yelled at and me and clay shot the shyt a little so i guess everything's fine.

found out today there's gonna be like 5 of us going to nationals in texas, so we'll have a mini crew...

yeah, right up to the part where the lat pull downs started and i put everything i had into pulling the bar down and it didn't move...the other guys were ripping off 8 w the stack.

100 blah
140 blah
190 blah
230x3
250x2 2 board
270 2 board
280 2 board

shirt
320 2 board - walay problema (that means no problem), the lighter weights hurt more coming down in this thing

time out...

i talked to big clay beforehand and asked should i do 345ish then 370, he said nope, go right to 370. it was a big jump for me, i shoulda tried to talk him into 340.

370 x barely 1 board, for some stupid god dam reason my head came up, and everything went forward, but i caught it

390 1 board - eric said this was my best rep since i put on the shirt. tbh, i don't even remember locking out. this is a problem for me.

thoughts
first off, i picked up the shirt from the tailor and it's like i never trimmed the sleeves. i thought i was going to die. after the 320, i heard the sewing start to stretch, so i think it'll be ok. i realized today my biggest problem is i'm not getting any feedback from the shirt. raw, if i'm doing something wrong, i can feel it. in the shirt, not so much. still a little trouble w the hand off, but the last one was good.

rant: since i don't bench >500, i (and my training partners) get sent to the 'other' bench, the one the big boys aren't using. great bench, but it's the kids table, whatever. anyway, there's some part time doofus's at db that only show up for bench day. of the 3 -4 crews we have, they just don't fit in anywhere, and today i learned why. for whatever reason, we were using a 50 lb bar today, who cares. i treated it like a 45 lb bar, and didn't even think about the extra 5 lbs. these idiots had to make a big deal about the 5 lbs "no man, that'll fck w my head" w 185 vs 190 on the bar. i wanted to throat punch all 3 of them. everyone is running around looking for 2.5 lb plates, guess what? at db, there ain't many 2.5 lb plates!
end rant...

today was a cool day at db, all the guys and gals going to the arnold had their last training day. we've got a couple girls that are gonna squat >500 and 2 benchers that are opening w 700.

it's pretty awesome...

i thought this was a lot better than the 405 two weeks ago, so did big clay.

thoughts
guys, i'm glad everyone is going to the arnold this week, because i need a week off, and i'm taking one. it's been 7 weeks of all heavy all the time and i'm a little beat up right now. left shoulder is really bad. clay says it's my bicep tendon because of where the stitching is on the shirt. squats are coming along, the 335 is ~90% of what i did at nationals last may. today's 415 didn't hurt my groinage, so it's starting to look like it'll be ok. i still think i can get my ass a little lower though.

decent day...

Tuesday, mobility/accessory day.

Stretch/mash/roll head to toe, took a hardball to problem areas: left bicep tendon, right and left posterior shoulders, left lower quad.

Ghr 75 total

Leg press
4 pps, 3x10

Lunges w a 25 lb db
4x12

Crap load of mobility stuff for both Achilles

Then stretch/mash/roll everything again

Thoughts
Well, it's official. Left bicep tendon is very angry w me. I think this is directly related to not keeping my back tight good enough w the shirt on. I'm positive my left shoulder is rolling forward a little pinching the tendon after I get the press command. I gotta tighten this shyt up in a hurry, or I'm afraid the shoulder won't last until worlds at the pace I'm on.

On another note, we are going to head down to the Arnold to check out the two guys we have in the Titan Pro bench championships. Eric said there's only about 8-9 guys in this thing, so it will go quick. Everybody that lifts Friday is staying, so there will be about 10-12 of us there. You can be sure we will make some noise for Eric and Tim. I believe Eric won it two years ago.

We're gonna have to leave around 5:30 in the morning to make sure we get there in time. Of course I'll make the obligatory stop by EFS on the way home...
