Turn your action sounds off on your camera app, and pretend to text.

You're not doing it because you're a perv, you're doing it to serve the greater cause. The cadre demands it!

Just wait till the coach is by my kid, then snap away.

"I'm just taking pics of my kid..."

Well, they probably did, but when we (guys) were/are 15, we were thinking of stuff like mitt oil, train sets and the one kid in school with the goatte, hairy chest and a car, that was hunting us at lunch time for cig money...!

390 x 0, i knew coming in today clay was gonna say touch 390. got it to about 1/4 inch, aborted, threw it towards my feet AGAIN and they took it

thoughts
a pretty forgettable day. tracey was keeping an eye on me today and she said i was completely out of the groove. and i don't think it was even close, everything felt wrong the last two attempts. i had a feeling clay was gonna have me touch today, and i thought i was ready. there's a shyt ton of difference between a 1 board and touching. i thought it hurt before...shyyytttt, i thought i was gonna die. the shoulders felt great going in today, now the left one feels like ass.

<---not real happy right now...

i don't know robbie, this might sound dumb or p.ussyish, but i'm starting to think i might not be strong enough for a shirt yet.

maybe i should push 3 plates (about 40 lbs from here) before i put the shirt on again...

Are you using double ply?

Edit: I'm like 99% sure you are. My point is is there any use in doing single ply first? A guy at my last comp I became cool with bombed on 285 and just two weeks ago hit 330 or 350 single ply in a comp. I don't know much about gear so I could be way off here.

lol, the jack is triple ply. i know, i cut the sleeves!

this might be painful, but i'm gonna talk to big clay about this sunday. the goal is to qual in something at nats so i can go to worlds again. right now, i couldn't find my ass in the shirt. clay might feel otherwise, but i gotta bring it up.

another confounding actor is i'm going to the philippines for 3 weeks the end of april = no shirt work. i'll be able to find a bench on the other side on the other side of the island, but that's about it. then, 1 more week and off to nats...

Don't get upset now, it's not easy to learn a shirt. You're working with 125lbs more than you've ever pressed before. You're going to get the hang of it. It might not be good for your next comp, but stick with it. It can take as much as a year before you truly master it. Keep beefing up your lats to pull that bar in to touch and keep working on your technique. Your work WILL pay off. Just ask the guys around you how long it took.

The four shirts I have pressed in went like this:

Blast: 20lbs carryover the first time, no carryover afterwards. Cheap.
Rage: Too small. Never touched. 425 to a 1 board, 450 floated at 2 when I tried to touch.
Katana: Touched 405 as a warmup, couldn't move it off my chest. 425 I threw into the racks on my second attempt. 425 I couldn't even hold at lockout on my third.
Viking: 20lbs carryover. Can't move 455 off my chest.

I've worked at least a month on three of the four, never got anything more than 20lbs carryover from them. All of the shirts are good for 80-100.

thoughts
decent day, i think i squatted a little better. mark says i have a slight initial shoot up of the ass, then my back has to catch up, but i get it. gotta work on that. i talked to big clay about me being in the shirt and he basically said i'm strong enough, i just need reps. he pointed to a couple guys and said they can't bench 315 raw, but can go >450 in a shirt. i told him it's killing my bicep tendon and he said maybe every other week. he then goes on to say i need to get in it every week so i don't know what the fck. we talked bout me going to the philippines, one week back, then to nationals and he said that was prolly a bad idea, so now i'm thinking about the senior nationals in grand rapids the following week. this much i know: every time i go to the philippines i lose 10 lbs for various reasons, mostly being in the jungle for 3 weeks. i would prolly be weak as fck when i get back, so that extra week might do me good. top 3 at the senior nationals also qualifies for worlds - which is the goal.

i have a few weeks to think about it...

I see youre back to moving large loads here, old man. Well done. And agree with Rob's sentiments re growing pains of the gear. Wondering if more warm ups may be helpful too.Anyhow, keep up the good work, bud. You'll catch those goals, only to pursue larger ones.

Txs jinxie, I've been pretty warmed up before the shirt goes on, usually to around 90-95% of raw 1rm. Yes, I need more reps, that much is out there but the thing just freakin hurts. All pressure is in my left bicep tendon. My RC's in both arms are held together by bone anchors already. Will they adapt to the increased weight structurally is the question...

Ok boys, it looks like I'm doing the UPA state meet on Saturday. Don't know what though, bench only or full power.

Right now I'm looking at:

355ish
270ish
420ish

I squatted 335 w no issues yesterday, my last warmup before I put the shirt on Friday was 250, and it flew up, and I pulled 415 last week w/o any issues.

My only concern is this would be the first test of the Achilles, and I'll prolly be ~20 less that what I squatted last May.

Thoughts?

Do it. Keep squat numbers conservative. Push/pull your heart out.
I just told JJ to put me down for full power.

I was looking at records and I'm bummed. If I was in the 50-54 class I'd prolly have the record. But, UPA is at whatever age you are the day of the meet.

Reach for an attainable squat number, and aim for the fences with the bench and deadlift.
