I have one major pet peeve that really bothers me. I hate when people don't re-rack their weight. Why should I have to use my time and energy to take off plates that you used? Also, most of the time, a person will load up a hammerstrength machine, bench, or leg press with a bunch of 45 plates and they can't even perform the exercise properly. I have to go to school or work, I need to get in and out. Respect my time please. Also, even if you can perform the exercise correctly with a bunch of weight, be respectful of weaker people, gym noobs, who may have a hard time stripping all those plates. Finally, the free weight section isn't just for guys. Older people and women like to lift too. Respect them because they will have a difficult time taking off the weight. Then I have to go over and help them. A public gym is a community for everyone, it isn't just for you.

1. No deodorant. Armpits... armpits as far as the eye can smell. And for the love of god, where are their sleeves?
2. Eroding the knurling from the heavy dumbbells by using them to pin down a barbell for t-bar rows. BONUS: Leaving them there, so the 120lb girl working can't clean up. Classy.
3. People that superset two pieces of equipment a half mile apart. You get one thing.
 
Where does anyone begin?!

1. Lifting straps while benching. Serioulsy? Are your hands so weak you can't keep the bar in place?
2. Standing in front of the dumbell rack doing your half rep exercises while others are trying to use the dumbells as well. You're not impressing anyone, MOVE!
3. Grunting and groaning like your lifting a truck. Dude, it's only the bar you're curling, what's so difficult?
 
1. Qualified fitness staff/owners who fail to offer constructive advice to their less experienced clients who are performing counter productive and unsafe execerise.
2. Again, curls in the squat rack.
3. Those who spend too much time talking and are holding up a piece of equipment.

If people just sit on equipment with their phone or talk to another member for an extended period of time, I go up and ask them if they are using the equipment. Might be a little dickish, but oh well.

Follow them during their "heavy lifts"...each time telling them to, "leave the weight on" when they're done!!

Lol. I did have one day where a guy was using the preacher curl machine. He was huffing and puffing, starring people down. I walked up and said, can I jump in there for one set, I need to finish this pump. I did the weight he had on there with one arm lol. He walked away

I don't enter too many contests ... but im in this ..

1. Everyone else in the gym. They all bother me for just being there.

2. Old guys that are in the locker room and like to do EVERYTHING there naked... Damn it at least put some underwear on before you put your foot on the bench and bend down to cut your nails.. fml.

3. The useless people that work there. Lot of new people at the gym that you can see have no idea on what they are doing and personal trainers who are either walking by, right in front of that person talk or training someone SEES that other person doing the exercise completely wrong and KNOW that the person could get hurt badly yet they only look, they don't say anything or don't help them. This week I got on a machine in front of a personal trainer and was messing up completely just to see if he would say anything, he didn't. Than I got up and asked him if i was doing it right and he told me "yeah sorry I wasn't paying attention, hire me and i'll teach you." I went to a lady trainer and she told me she could only help me if she was my personal trainer. I like money just like the next person but that pisses me off so much. At my gym Retro Fitness all the employers there are a piece of $hit basically because they get paid to do nothing all day. All they do is clean the place, make expensive crappy juice drinks with no protein. And the personal trainers sit on their ass all day unless they are working out themselves and only help others when they are getting paid for it.

2. Seeing Trainers put their clients through dumbass movements like 1 legged bosu ball squats
3. Getting yelled at for squatting or deadlifts and making too much noise.
 
1. People who seem to hang out more than lift. (Group of kids at my gym have their Saturday afternoon hang out session, in 9 months I think I've seen each of them do 1 set)
2. Cell phones in the gym (People sitting at a bench of whatever texting and not working out)
3. Know it alls, that really don 't know anything (People who preach something to you but really don't understand how or why your doing something)

Bonus:
Two guys at my gym who come to the gym smelling like some awful weed. Not good weed. But they smell like they just smoked some seeds and stems.
 
1- guys who stack plates on bench, then only go a quarter of the way down. Rack the weight super loud like they just did something.

2. Guys that ask me to "work in" when there is the same equipment open. Quit looking for excuses to talk and go work out.

3- Guys going three year old crazy with chalk and getting it all over everything. It's just preacher curls. Do you need to cake on the chalk?
 
Top 3 pet peeeves:

3) People who leave their weights on the bar/floor. I saw you pick it up, now put it back.

2) People who spend ANY amount of time on their phone at the gym. If their isn't headphones coming out of it, leave it at home.

1) People who cut in or bump you mid rep/set and take your space, or weights. Seriously. Get out.
 
This is a good one. Lol. I just have one pet peeve.

1) Guys who stand directly in front of the dumbbell rack, so you have to perform Cirque du Soleil in order to get around them. Fun fact...it's not catabolic if you give people room to walk by and grab weights too.
 
This is good! Guys who are on a bench or machine just sitting or standing talking do 1 set and talk for 20 min.
Another is people who always want some one to notice them with the amount of weight which they can't control lol
And last the people who work the front desk that don't even greet you when you come in and have their phone glues to their hand ....
 
The signs in my gym say to spray the towel, and then wipe down the machine. People don't know how to read or something because I constantly see them spraying the machines/equipment first. Morons.

Speaking of signs...at LA fitness, in the bathroom they have a warning sign about steroids. Every time I see it I laugh

1) The Crossfit group that comes into the fitness center at 6pm and actaully expects people to give them 1/4 of the gym so they can waste precious oxygen Im wanting. Dont mind Crossfit, except when its rush hour and 6 people want to do it all together.

2) The A-Hole who comes in deadlifts 1RM and leaves the gym immediatly after. Leaving 405 sitting in the middle of the floor just will never be cool.

3) People who stare and post up beside me when Im actually "In the Zone" and only want to lift. I mean seriously cant we talk about your life problems and loss of GAINZ later or like....never lol

Oh Im just getting started with all the things that Grind My Gears

4) People who expect me to know everything about nothing just because I work at the gym. No I dont know why your Doc. doesnt want you running, seems like a ? for him

5) People who think its cool to change an attachment and look at you and ask "Oh were you still using that", you asked the question therefor in my book thats an omission of guilt in gym code. YOU ASK ME FIRST DANGIT!

6) That lame ass creeper that wants to check inside your bag to see if you have any BCAAs to let him bum off you. Ya know Im not your supplier, I may open your yes to something new, but Dangit order some of your own!

You need to switch gyms dude!!!! As if someone tried to bum some bcaa's off you? that is not cool lol
 
Guys who spit into the drain of the water fountain. That sh!t just doesn't go down a$$hole so stop spitting in there!
 
1) People who spray that disinfectant all over the equipment and into the air you are breathing while lifting right next to them!
2) Those that use equipment as storage shelving for their towels, glasses, water bottles and supplement powder holders.
3) People that sweat like beasts but don't use towels! These are the ones that come running over to "spot" you while dripping into your mouth and eyes!
 
1. Trainers who will 'give their clients a break' mid-workout so they can head out for a smoke. Yes I've seen this.
2. Being chatted up about what is in my intra-workout drink and criticized for it not being their favourite brand.
3. The teenagers you can overhear with their friends remarking how unfit some people in the gym appear. (#1 these guys would fail as paperweights #2 they are making fun of larger men for being 'out of shape' meanwhile the target of their insults is pressing weight that they couldn't lift combined)
 
1.) people who come in groups of 6 to workout and take stop taking unreal rest between sets.

2.) Newbie guys who never want to do legs and opt do chest everyday. No bro. Just no. Do you really want to end up looking like the the lobster from Spongebob?

3.) Old guys who hold conversations while naked in the locker room. Complete violation of man-law. I dont want any type of verbal exchange with another man who has his wang out. Smh
 
There's an old man who comes to my gym who always wears a weighted belt with an outfit that is a blend of construction and karate.... He puts the bar on the Smith machine super high then hangs on it upside down and practices his punches upside down....If he only knew how dumb he looks

Pull ups on the cross bar of cable cross over machine. There are racks and pull up bars all over, even pull down cables. Do you really have to do pull ups on one of the most popular pieces of equipment in the gym rendering it useless? a$$.....

just yesterday, so I was in a locker room and these 2guys were talking and guy#1 goes : yea I joined this gym bc my previous gym only had dumbells that went up to 75lbs .. About 20mins later I saw him doing shrugs with 45lbs

These are great! Reading y'all's peeves is sparking more of mine 4- the naked old man who I swear is just waiting for people to come into the locker so he can talk to them naked. 5- the guy that uses the top stair on the only staircase in the gym to do tricep dips. I have actually heard him tell is buddy "u can get lower on the stairs then on a bench."

Awesome! I love watching stupid people, kind of a hobby of mine. Vermont has an unusually high number of stupid people/square mile so it's very easy.
