Haha he's actually pretty good but completely different styles of drumming/music. I don't know how much you know about him but he's more than what you think at first. I don't think you can even compare him to the other guys we are talking about though, for many reasons.

Hmmm, honestly never listened to any Led at all growing up. I know who they are/have heard them. First of all my dad/both parents aren't really big into music. I dunno why. He likes to just drive in the car without the radio on... one of those people. lol. We would listen to The Who, Skynard, Kansas, Fleetwod Mac, Tom Petty, Steve Miller Band, and a few others, but never stuff like Rush, Led Zeppelin, etc. IDK why.


Speaking of the Who, what about Keith Moon?

Pfft...Bonham is so overrated as a drummer. He gets bonus points for dying so young, but, technically, he wasn't an astounding drummer. I've never paused and hit rewind on any Bonham parts.

Rolling Stone doesn't know **** about music anymore and yes, I have. However, that's merely a solo and not indicative of musicianship. If that were the criteria, then you would have to throw in half the drummers from death metal bands. Speed is just a portion of being a good drummer. Carey can play very fast as well, but that's not what makes him a great drummer. Nearly the entire Lateralus album is mindblowing in terms of how diverse his playing is and you have to listen closely to the mixing of his time signatures. The floor toms, bass drum, and cymbals are, somehow, played with different beats. I've yet to hear anything on that level of split brained ability.
 
Tool is boss. Mudvayne has some great rhythmic stuff in odd times as well

not a lot of positives to take out of today

positives:
first set w the shirt was 325x2 to a 3 board, got it both times, but the second was a grind
got a slingshot on today, loved it and i gotta get one, aaron let me borrow his, he's the 165'r that got like 1530 last week.
liked the wrist wraps, they help. at no time did my wrists feel like they were gonna break
the shirt didn't hurt as much

shyt that pisses me off:
every set/rep after the first was complete shyt
lost my fcking breath twice
lost my fcking back tightness 3 times
set up was complete shyt, i actually remember thinking, jesus, my traps are loose on the way down

i swear to god, after the first set it looked like i never benched in my life. the first set i had tim (won arnold, he's on the board w a 760 bench) hand off and keep an eye on me, i'd give myself a solid c+ on that set. after that................................not so much. big clay had me try to take the 325 to a 2 board and i completely lost my breath about 2 inches away. tried a couple more singles after that and was just said fck it. couldn't feel my fingers, arms numb and purple. i was running pretty fcking hot at that point.

after i calmed down i talked to tim, clay and jj and we all agreed the bad ones were shyt from the set up. tim wants me to come up w a checklist for under the bar. jj wants me to do rep work w the shirt on w lightish weight, big clay says keep working lower and lower every week w a weight i can handle. problem is, i don't know what that weight is yet. that was a lot of knowledge thrown at me in a short amount of time, i need to let it all sink in and get my head straight.

methinks a lot of this is between my ears...
 
You're good dude. These are big changes to your training and you're getting used to it. Having that shirt compress on your chest and pretty rough. I think it's pretty ****in sweet that you've got all that help.

txs bro, i don't wanna make excuses but the jack is stiff, like really stiff. i see the guys w the inzers and their arms ain't purple. now, these guys bench >650 so who the fck am i, but my point is the chest plate and seams of the jack are very very different than the inzers. and by that i mean evil.

before i forget, tim was saying my end of the handoff wasn't letting me get the bar correct. i gotta ask him where...

Yeah me too - mostly hand percussion. Used to play mandolin/banjo but haven't done much in a few years

Interesting. Makes sense though. If you loosen up at all letting these guys hand off your tightness could be shot. The guys where I work out at now are very particular on hand offs, too.

The tightness is a whole new ballgame with big weight in your hands, man. When I hand off to the resident big big bencher in my gym, he's purple before he receives the bar. Get tight, get ready then pull it out hard with your lats, then deliberately settle the bar in lower hard with your lats. You're getting used to it still.

I've never had two good shirt days in a row, don't beat yourself up. It will take some time.

Spot on, man. Death metal drummers are untouchable. The speed at which they play is ungodly. I'm convinced that George Koulias of Nile is not a human, but a robot.

Lateralus is a great album

i don't know how evan got that thing on, he's a lot bigger than me. it took 3 different people 10 minutes to get me out of that thing today.

it has to be a lot looser on me than it was on evan to allow me to get 325 to a 3 board...

Meh, not bad after 10's squatting.

Thoughts
Man, my conditioning sucks. The 10's were pretty hard. Every set I was slowing down to take a breath at like rep 7. Tbh, I don't even remember the last time I did 10 reps during work sets. We figured the mini added 30-40 lbs at the top, so that was pretty good for me. I'd be happy w a double w 4 plates at this point. So, I think the heavy rack pulls are helping. I'm thinking the goal at nats will be a 445-450 pull.

Got a little bit of an ass chewing by clay today. He wasn't happy w my benching effort Friday. He said stop thinking and just do what he says, or don't come on Fridays. He asked when my next meet is and I said May, he laughed and said he'll have me a benching machine by then.

Oh yeah, I trimmed another 1/4 inch off the right sleeve, and another 1/8 on the left. Hopefully this will stop the numb fingers...
