leucine or hmb?

whats your guys pick? and why? im debating between these 2 as far as preserving strength and muscle mass. im on a very high protein and fat, but extremely low carb diet. ive read hmb is great but not in trained/athletic people.
 
Oral Leucine is sufficient to stimulate muscle protein synthesis, while I'm pretty confident HMB has very low bioavailability, making the effective doses too expensive for practicality.

have 5g of leu with each of your meals and you're set.
 
it would be better to have 5-10g leucine 10-15min prior to a meal.

and as far as the topic goes, IMO it's best to have both. 5g of leucine with 15g of EAAs +3g HMB and some fast carbs pre and during workout.

HMB worked nicely for me, while I was dieting

Ive been seeing quite a bit of promotion for HMB lately, and honestly I dont know why. It would need to be dosed extremely high which kills the cost

3 g of leucine
1.5 g of calcium HMB
500mg of HICA
 
The latest study published on HMB did not really show the sort of favorable results that would have indicated it as a good choice for supplementation.

On a calorie defecit there was more muscle lost than fat, and on a caloric surplus more fat gained than muscle.

Stick with leucine especially when you can buy large bulk tubs of leucine at a great price such as SNS Leucine

each container runs about 30 bucks for 50 scoops. Personally I would run 3 scoops per day on workout days and 1 scoop on off days (assuming I wouldn't skip the dose entirely) not the cheapest price per serving but still cheaper than buying the 3 separate

That's an interesting product. Throw it all together see what happens :)

If it came with a good price might be worth it.

For the original poster I'm sticking with leucine itself for now. Plus making sure I'm consuming protein around the extra dosing obviously.

The conclusion/abstract is written about as heavily slanted in favor of HMB as it could possibly be written, but read the full text of the results and the reality becomes apparent.

I've been using a Leucine/EAA combo intra workout and between meals as well as the HICA in 3 servings of Alphamine daily during my cut/recomp.

Recovery is phenomenal and I've kept every ounce of muscle.

Same I'm at like 3G hica a day lol. Recomping hard. Ran out of alphamine so I'm back at like 2 g tho as of tomorrow
