Everything Fishing - Come On In!!!

Nice. I have a sea bass and some grey snapper in the freezer. I've never had sea bass.

We went out last Saturday to a lake I have not fished before.Caught 10 whitebass,2 blackbass and a few bluegills. It has been a while since I went for primarily whites.I had forgotten how little fight they had in them. They all went over 2lbs a piece, but it did not take much to land them even on my ultralight. The 2 largemouth were fun, though.
We went out 2 weeks ago and caught a mess of gills(almost got tagged on the hand by a water moccassin). The cooler weather has them close to the bank.
We are going again tomorrow. We are planning a trip to Costa Rica for the spring. It will be my first time fishing the ocean.Very much looking forward to it.

Im tryin to go out in October for Striper. I love fishing them, and eating them too

Texhoma used to be great for stripers, but it got oveharvested.Have not fished it in years, but heard it is hard to catch one of any real size anymore.

Are you guys talking about Stripped Bass? When I lived in Maryland I went out for them at least once a year. I never caught anything real big, but I pulled in a few nice keepers. I want to say the biggest was just under 30" and about 8 lbs (this was just under 20 years ago, so I can't remember exact numbers).

Yep.They used to catch some really big ones out of Texhoma, but now they say 5-8 pounders is about all you will catch these days.Only have a few weeks of fishing left here in Oklahoma. Will probably take up trout fishing again,so I can continue to catch fish when the cold weather sets in.Have caught a lot of trout of Blue River and the spillway below Broken Bow.Broken Bow is by far the prettiest lake in OK.

5-8 lbs is still fun to pull in :D

I used to go out trout fishing when I was a kid. We only caught Rainbow trout. The Brown trout wouldn't ever bite anything.

I grew up on a small lake community they stocked with rainbow, brown, and rock trout. Loved it.

I have not been trout fishing myself in probably 15 years. They used to stock the designated trout areas here with mostly rainbows,or at least that is all I ever caught.I still have my old flyrod,so I will probably break it out and shake the rust off.I was never a master at it,but I got pretty good at casting my flies where I wanted them to go.

I didn't know what a musky was, so I Googled it. They look like they are fun to catch!

I managed to get a three day weekend for my birthday off from work. Fishing is going to happen somewhere between Thursday and Sunday.

Awesome. What are you going out for? I just got home from work and was trying to talk my coworker into going out. He access to a private lake that has nothing but Large Mouth in it and the water is crystal clear. He took me once and I caught a smallish two pounder, but there's stories of 14+ pounders being pulled out of there :D

Went fishing a couple weekends ago in Michigan and caught my first rock bass. Was a fun catch, maybe a pound. I didn't even know they existed until then.

I think I caught one of those last summer. They don't get very big.

So I managed to get myself a 3 day weekend for my birthday this month. I love my job. Planning a striped bass trip - YES!!!

That sounds awesome. I bought a new ugly stik a few weeks ago and have yet to even get a reel on it!

I've got the itch though, lol...

We caught some really nice blugills and a few tiny largemouths today.I am gearing up for trout season.May have to drop my fishing partner as he has turned into a sloppy drunk the last few weeks. Can`t stand an alcoholic.

I quite drinking completely this year. I haven't had a drink since April.

The weather here in FL is about to start cooling off a little...at least for a few days at time. It's about time for me try out that catfish dough and the Crappie will be hitting soon :D

How do you prepare your bluegill? I read a few weeks ago that bluegill taste better than large mouth!

I gave up drinkinking 13 years ago.I don`t mind social drinkers, but I can`t stand sloppy drunks. My friend gets worse evertime we go out.Catfish and bluegills are my two favorite eating fish.I never keep largemouths and only rarely do I keep other types of bass.Never really cared much for the flavor of bass. The way I prepare my gills is to fillet them first, soak them in ice water with salt for a day(I have found that keeping them as cold as possible throughout the entire prep process greatly enhances the flavor). The batter I used varies each time I fry them.Sometimes I like spicy cajun batters, other times I prefer more neutral flavors.
Also,I prefer to fry my fish in butter as opposed to oil.

Bluegill is real gamey in taste. I like it though, depends on how fishy youll allow it to taste. I just pan sear it in some basic fish rub spices.

I'll have a couple beers if Im out tailgating for a football game. Maybe a drink at a celebration. But for the most part im over it. Im not real big on spending money on alcohol and Im not big on the drunken feeling... especially the next day.

Gills are definitely an aquired taste.I have found that the longer I soak them, the less gamey they are.Yeah,I was a full blown alcoholic in my younger days, but I grew up and got sober.I am too old to babysit a drunk.Having to pull over all the time so he can take a p*** beside the road, listening to him ramble on about how much he hates everything, running the risk of getting pulled over and cited for open container, etc.

Ill keep that in mind next time I cook em up.

I went through a bad time with the bottle and some harder stuff. I say this sport saved my life. Leave your drunken accident at the prom... call me insensitive but I dont carry dead weight. Ever.

Agreed.I have fought my own demons and prevailed without help from anyone,he is a grown man and can do the same. Not my fault he married the wrong woman for the 4th time in his life.

Mannn, it doesnt look like im gonna get my striped bass trip :(
Havent had enough people solid in their RSVP. Oh well. Should have planned further in advance

Darn. I'd hop all over a trip like that if I had the opportunity.

Do you have any cool pictures of any past or recent catches?

Not readily accesable on this computer but yeah. Let me see about gettin some up in hurz

I think my wife had a bad day at work. She came home and locked herself in the bedroom. I guess that means I'm going fishing for an hour or two, lol. The conditions aren't ideal, so I think I'm just going to try some catfish dough for ****s and giggles.

Never have been able to understand the moods of a woman. After having dealt with my exfriends exgirlfriend,I literally have no patience for it anymore.
Took my nephew and his stepbrother fishing today.Fishing was very slow.My nephews stepbrother hooked a nice largemouth that I guesstimated to go about 3lbs,though.It got off just as he was about to land it.

Darn, I bet he was really excited. What were you using, shiners?

I got to the lake, tied up my poles, started casting, and then a lightning storm blew in, lol. I spent more time rigging my lines than I did in the water. Oh well, that's the breaks

He was using a chartreuse jig tipped with a small piece of worm.He is kind of an unusual kid.I actually got more excited about it then he did.I was quite a few yards away when I noticed he was fighting something big.I made a beeline to help him land it.When I got about 10 yards away and just as he was about to drag it onto the bank,it tailwalked on him and flipped the jig.
I went fishing with a coworker quite a few years ago.He had a cabin on one of the lakes in Northeastern OK.We were trrolling for sandbass but not having much luck. All of a sudden a storm blew in.It was pouring rain and lightning was crashing all around. This whipped the bass into a feeding frenzy. They started biting as soon as our lures hit the water.I was afraid for my life and wanted to head in,but nothing was going to drag this crazy Indian off the lake now that the fish were biting.
Good times.:lmao:

I got out yesterday on my day off. It's a bit early down here for Crappie, but I loaded up on plastics and couldn't wait to try them out, lol.

I caught ONE Crappie. We also caught some really big Bluegills. The odd thing was that my step-father was using minnows and shiners. The only fish either of us caught were on a few different jig spinners that I made for Crappie season. I was certain that he would have caught on the live bait.

I love catching big gills. They put up quite a fight on ultralight tackle.Crappie has been scarce for us this year, also.I am 2 weeks away from focusing on trout fishing until spring.

So I've been looking at boats since July. I was walking my dogs after work on Saturday and made acquaintance with a neighbor whom I've never met. We started talking and I asked him if he knew anybody selling a boat. He asked me what I was looking for, I told him, and voila...that was what he had sitting in his backyard, lol. He made me an offer that I can't resist, but not until after he took me out in it on the lake that I always fish. Let me tell you, he did a great job selling me...other than the fact that he caught the big one and not me.

That is a nice bass!I am relaying the fiberglass on the boat my friend gave me.I am actually redesigning it since I had to gut it anyway. Will have it ready to go by spring.Trout season starts here in a few days.Getting excited about trout fishing again.

^ Big fan of trout fishing. They give a nice fight and can make for good eating. Grilled up a fillet of steelhead trout last weekend - awesome flavors.

I went out this morning and caught one a little smaller than the one from three posts above. Not bad for the first day as a boat owner. Now I'm going to have big expectations every time I take out my boat, lol.

I am anxious to take mine out in the spring. We had a really productive summer but I am looking forward to being able to work more waters with a boat.

I've had the boat out four times now (once on my own) and we've caught a total of three Largemouth. Not great numbers, but one was a five pounder and today's was a little over a pound. The other was just shy of even being a keeper.

It's been cool and windy all but once. In my book, three is not too bad then, considering the weather. I NEVER catch off the shore when it's windy. The last three times I've been out in the wind (on a boat) I've caught and so has the person that's with me.

Anybody else been out recently?

Need your money so I can get a boat :)...
I ain't tryin to fish I want to yaht it....

are you working thanksgiving week? would be fun to drive over and go fishing with you

Wish I lived in Florida.Would like to hook up with stxnas and go fishing, also.Florida is the state where my fishing partner holds his Captain`s license. We are tentatively scheduling a trip there for springbreak.I lived in Tallahassee for 3 months in what seems like a lifetime ago.Remember there were some exceptionally beautiful girls on the Florida State campus.

AJ, my boat would probably fit in the back of a full size truck, lol. It's only a little 13' skiff :D

I don't know my darn schedule for the holidays yet...

Wen out this morning. It was cold (for FL) and was VERY windy. We still managed to put four Largemouth and one Sunfish in the boat. I lost a largemouth, too. None of them had much size on them, but it was still a lot of fun.

You guys have to check out Lake Okeechobee. If u don't have a boat, u can rent one there for around 40 bucks. Gas motor included. That's a lot of fun. I've used mostly rubber worms, but shiners will definitely increase ur chances. And your guaranteed a lot more than 3 bass. That is if you know how to fish. Lol.

Did not make it to Blue River this weekend

But Ted Meador did and this is what he caught.A 10lb 40z rainbow!

That's a nice freaking fish! I didn't know Rainbows got that big

Went out Friday and caught three LargeMouth and went out today after work for maybe an hour. I caught two laregmouth and lost what looked like one somewhere around a poundish. It broke the water and tried to jump, so I got to see it. I'm not sure how I lost it, though. It managed to throw the hook while below the surface. Oh well, still had fun.

Nice...

Damn, I only got to go out 3 times this year and my 6 year old daughter loves fishing. Added bonus, as she's a little girlie girl.

Glad I found this thread.
