Hey Volcom will you be watching TUF this season?

I normally don't. The last TUF I was heavily involved in was Mir vs Nog and the one before that was Rampage vs Forrest. Who's Mayhem fighting?

Odd Day

I'm having the weirdest reaction to my workout right now, I'll just post the happenings and maybe someone else can diagnose me.

Rack Deads
225lbs x 10 reps
315lbs x 10 reps
405lbs x 10 reps
495lbs x 10 reps
585lbs x 7 reps
675lbs x 5 reps, well, 3 reps, re-adjust grip and 2 more reps. *PR*
725lbs x 1 rep *Major PR*

After I pulled that final 1 rep at 725 I started to get waaaay mentally and physicaly fatigued.

Hammer Pull Downs, Behind The Neck
180lbs x 10 reps
180lbs x 10 reps
180lbs x 10 reps
180lbs x 10 reps

Hammer High Rows
140lbs x 8 reps
140lbs x 8 reps
140lbs x 8 reps
140lbs x 8 reps

Machine Low Rows
225lbs x 8 reps
225lbs x 8 reps
225lbs x 6 reps
225lbs x 6 reps

Again, after that mean 725 single pull, I got put in a stooper, like I feel real sullen and meloncholly. I wonder if that single drew out a heavy adrenaline response and now I've got some major negative loop feedback going on or something. I feel like I got some temporary, borderline depression going on at the moment. I'm not exhausted, just very blah and discontent, when I would normally be excited about the achievement, particularly when I'm logging because I get to share the experience. Also, I think I may have pulled something. For those who don't know, the superior insertion of the traps inserts at the base of your skull, I can distinctly feel two muscles running up the back of my neck, into the base of my skull, with that, "you're about to have a severely stiff neck tomorrow" feeling. I'll load up on Ibuprofen and Fish Oil tonight.

What an odd reaction to my workout. I should be swimming in some well earned endorphins, but instead, I'm sullen.

What goes up must come down. You must have given it more than your all to pull that!!

Congratz on the PR!!

Where is the bow down icon.. 725 is obviously a major achievement. Congrats...

Thanks fellas. Historically, when I hit big numbers, I get amped and energized, but this one sucked the life out of me. I'll enjoy it later when whatever hormones issues are going returns to homeostasis or something. Man, my neck is tight. I have to look gently to the left or right or it hurts! Feels like a strain for certain.

Yeah I would take it easy for a few days. Get some tiger balm and have it rubbed in your neck area you will be feeling better in no time. Also if you can fit in the tub get some epsom salt and add just soak in it.

That may be a good idea. The rest of my traps have fallen in line with the pain in my neck.

You know Bisping is calling for a shot at Andy if he beats Mayhem. I just don't see it. I can't imagine either of these fighters beating Andy, especially if Bisping intends to stand and box with Andy.

That would be one of the few fights where I'd pull for Andy.

Just for fun:

I've got four tiger balm patches on right now, two on the back of my neck and on each trap. Ish is getting warm in here.

gets old

it never gets old. not the best KO when it comes to all time in MMA but def my favorite! Id root for Andy against Bisping.

Guys who can beat Andy in order

1. Sonnen
2. Hendo ( reason for not number 1 is he doesnt use wrestling as much with age, and slower and shorter)
3. GSP
4. Belfort
5. No one else @ 185

Hendo had a great gameplan against Andy for the first few rounds. I don't recall the details of thatfight because it was awhile ago, but I do remember Hendo was out-wrestling him, smothering his mouth, then I believe Hendo switched up his game and tried to strike with Andy before ending up in a body lock triangle/RNC.

First of all, a huge congratulations is in order for those 2 PR's and especially the major one.

I think your melancholy is a subconscious result of realizing that you might have had more in the tank.............you're sad you didn't go for 825 lbs!!!

It actually helped with the pain for now, but I'm afraid of what tomorrow may bring.
Don't be afraid.......only believe.

And get Mama (your wife) to rub that neck..........no better therapy than that other than some intense "sexercise"!!

In retrospect, I think I de-legitimized that accomplishment in my mind becuase it wasn't a full ROM deadlift off the floor, but I'm working on it. I'm trying to really develop my lumbar right now with GHR's, SLDL's and good mornings, so maybe one day.

My neck actually isn't as bad as I thought it was going ot be. It's still sore and I certainly can't do anything to stress it, not even holding a bar while squatting, but I could probably still hit some chest. We'll see.

True Story.

I wiped my neck with some triple action icy hot cream, didn't wash my hands, went to take my supps and now my lips are icy hot, seriously.

Crushed it this morning. It was really suppose to be another day off, plus my neck is tweeked, but I'm stubbornly wenty anyway. Monday is my workout partner and I's official chest day, but there were no other muscle groups I could hit this morning except chest, so I went with a focus on the incline and hopefully, I'll be recovered by Monday after work.

Incline Press
185lbs x 10 reps
205lbs x 8 reps
185lbs x 6 reps
185lbs x 6 reps
185lbs x 5 reps
185lbs x 5 reps

Incline Db Press
70lbs Db's x 8 reps
70lbs Db's x 8 reps
70lbs Db's x 8 reps

Incline Db Flies
40lbs Db's x 10 reps
40lbs Db's x 9 reps
40lbs Db's x 8 reps
40lbs Db's x 8 reps

Machine Incline Press
180lbs x 10 reps
195lbs x 8 reps
195lbs x 8 reps
195lbs x 8 reps
195lbs x 8 reps

Incline Cable Fly
100lbs x 20 reps
120lbs x 10 reps
140lbs x 8 reps
140lbs x 8 reps
140lbs x 6 reps

My neck actually loosened up a bit after lifting. I should be good by Monday, whenever I focus just on my inclines, I tend to recovery rather rapidly. UFC Fight Night, tonight. GSP has Jake Shields over Jake Ellenburger.

Lmao...good thing you didnt have to pee or anything else.

I starting thinking about the worst case scenario this morning after I did that with my lips. For some reason I inadvertently touch myself, the icy hot doesn't kick in yet, then I have coitus with the wife, ouch..... good thing that didn't really happen.

LMFAO

During my most recent legs days, I've been squatting to just beyond parallel and not full ATG just to see how my low back would handle it and to get reaquainted with the squats in general. Today, I hit the squats ATG and I really enjoy how much more effort going ATG requires, granted, the weight I used had to go way down for now.

Front Squats, ATG
135lbs x 5 reps
155lbs x 5 reps
185lbs x 5 reps
185lbs x 5 reps
185lbs x 5 reps
185lbs x 5 reps
185lbs x 5 reps
185lbs x 3 reps
185lbs x 3 reps

Snatch into full drop-squat & Overhead Squats
45lbs x 5 reps
65lbs x 5 reps
85lbs x 5 reps
85lbs x 5 reps
85lbs x 5 reps
85lbs x 5 reps
85lbs x 5 reps
95lbs x 3 reps
95lbs x 3 reps
95lbs x 3 reps

SLDL
135lbs x 10 reps
155lbs x 10 reps
185lbs x 5 reps
185lbs x 5 reps
185lbs x 5 reps

Good Mornings
45lbs x 10 reps
65lbs x 10 reps
65lbs x 8 reps
65lbs x 8 res

GHR's x 10 reps x 5 sets

My vastus medialus (tear drop) feels like its going to pop when I walk and I walked out the gym like I fell on a seatless bicycle, which means it was a good day. This is my second legs workout where I'm really taking it seriously. Lifting with a purpose makes it much more fun and motivating. My two primary goals related to legs training right now is to get back to O.G. deadlifting and to benefit my newly acquired technique of snatching into a drop squat.

Also, this is the last time I squat in a tank top. Once I started sweating, the bar was sliding back & forth on my delts during the front squats, that sucked big time.

UFC Fight Night

If anybody caught or read about the Jake Shields vs Jake Ellenburger fight, I'd like to hear your opinion on the matter. How much credit do you give Ellenburger for the finish, vs crediting Shields' loss to being mentally frazzled by the death of his extraordinarily close father/manager?

I think Ellenburger is a very explosive fighter and I thought if he was going to beat Shields it was going to be an explosive finish like he did. Whats the chances of that happening again if they fight, idk, I'd like to see a rematch in the near future.

I was impressed with Alan Belcher win!

Now Jon Jones vs Rampage, the hype begins! damn I wanna see that fight!

I can't tell if I'm excited or dreading that fight. I really feel JBJ is going to win and win big and that's going to suck for Rampage. I believe you're a big JBJ fan, right? I'd be feeling pretty confident if I were you. Rampage does have the KO power advantage, but I think it's going to be a challenge to get a hit in THAT clean on JBJ's reach factor. Not to mention JBJ's wrestling advantage.

I am not a fan of Mayweather, Boxing, or that headbutt at all but that cheap shot was pretty funny, and just like hockey I think if some body does something cheap, do something back to police your own sport and enforce you mean business. It also gave boxing a lot of hype which the sport lacks besides Manny vs Mayweather talks.

The myth of Manny vs Mayweather is floating boxing. At least for the non-boxing specific, layperson crowd.

I don't want to discount Ellenberger's performance because he did his job, but Shields was not into that fight. Looking at his physique, Shields looked so, so skinny and it's impossible to say that he wasn't suffering from the aftermath of his father's death.

I thought he looked smaller too, no doubt his father passing must have been hard.

I thought Shields had defeat in his eyes. His deamenor seemed the same pre-fight as it was post fight. My opinion is the knees Ellenburger dropped would have KO'd Shields under any circumstance, but I do question whether a non-mentally/emotionally/physically less-than Jake Shields would have found himself in that position to catch the blows he did. The talk around town is that Shields should move up in weight.

From what I understand, Shields and his dad had a particularly close relationship.

He did look small, putting him on a "fight night" card as well as fighting Jake, i dont thin he put much into this fight, well he learned his lesson.

Chest Strength Creeping Back with a Vengeance.

I haven't done flat presses for about two weeks and I don't know if that is what has made an impact on todays performance, I have worked chest, but with a primary focus on incline pressing movements. Today, I focused on the flat and wow, it made me feel good. The weight felt as it should, heavy, but not insurmountable.

Flat Bench
185lbs x 15 reps
225lbs x 10 reps
245lbs x 10 reps
275lbs x 10 reps

130lbs x 12 reps
145lbs x 10 reps
160lbs x 8 reps
175lbs x 6 reps

After the gym I drove to my old neighborhood where I know there is an isolated uphill street that's about 80-100 yards uphill and rather steep. This is where I did my cardio.

Uphill HIIT x 10 sprints.

I was physically tapped out at sprint number 4, the rest was me saying, "just one more... just one more." Your legs will go numb quick sprinting uphill. I think I brought this up before, but my workout partner plays football and he wants to start doing Speed & Agility drills HIIT style on the weekends at the nearest college football field, so I've been doing HIIT on the treadmill (inconsistently) in preparation and today I had to take it to the next level and actually move my body on ground. I don't want to be a cardio-bitch during our weekend S&A HIIT, so I'm trying to hammer out some ugly forms of HIIT on my own to build up my tolerance for pain this weekend.

Way to push through this. Putting a good amount of weight also.

Thanks Chevy. Field Sprints don't make your quads as numb as uphill sprints, nor make your lungs burn in the same way, but the post activity endorphins released in response to the stress incurred feels good.
