Chicago school bans packed lunches

A small school in Chicago is making big news on the lunch line these days. Little Village Academy on Chicago's West Side no longer allows students to bring food from home to eat for lunch. So it's either eat the cafeteria food or go hungry. As you might expect, the policy has parents all around the nation in an uproar.

According to Little Village's principal, Elsa Carmona, the intention of the policy is to protect students from the potential for unhealthy homemade lunches.

"Nutrition wise, it is better for the children to eat at the school," Carmona told the Chicago Tribune. "It's about the nutrition and the excellent quality food that they are able to serve (in the lunchroom). It's milk versus a Coke. But with allergies and any medical issue, of course, we would make an exception."

Carmona says she made the policy decision after seeing kids bringing bottles of soda and bags of chips on field trips. I applaud her intention to improve kids' nutrition, but I'm not sure that banning homemade lunches is the way to get it done."

"Classic kids games like kickball deemed unsafe by state in effort to increase summer camp regulation
ALBANY - State bureaucrats have identified a potentially deadly hazard facing our children this summer - freeze tag.

That's right, officials have decided the age-old street game - along with Wiffle Ball, kickball and dodgeball - poses a "significant risk of injury."

And classics like Capture the Flag, Steal the Bacon and Red Rover are also deemed dangerous in new state regulations for day camps.

"It looks like Albany bureaucrats are looking for kids to just sit in a corner in a house all day and not be outside," said state Sen. Patty Ritchie (R-St. Lawrence County).

i heard this awhile back and the first thing that came to mind was allergy's, if the kids are allergic to the school offered food for some reason then what? and if we keep protecting our kids from freez tag and kick ball, bruises and twisted ankles were gunna have quite the group of adults when they grow up.

Jesus Christ, there's some pot calling the kettle black going on here: "According to Little Village's principal, Elsa Carmona, the intention of the policy is to protect students from the potential for unhealthy homemade lunches."

I've never seen anything more unhealthy than what they served at school up through high school. And I'd comment on the kickball thing, but it's getting tiring. We know there's a huge problem with schools pushing the government's socialcultural agenda onto people. First it was abstinence, then absolute equality, and now a host of absurd policies supposedly to protect kids from the dangers of life. Now, it's as if they don't have a life.

We need to take action...we are sending the kids home after school and on weekends to the evil parents terrorizing their kids with their own food choices. We should assign a agent to each family in america to keep a watchful eye to make sure the parents arent hurting their kids with their decision making, or better yet the agent also brings the kids meals to the home.

This way, the agent can make sure the kids dont partake in dangerous activities such as Wiffle Ball.

chicago is a socialist city, so its not surprising

Fcuk Chicago and everything inside it. There's a dozen homicides in the little village every summer. I used to work at the county jail and it's right next to the little shiiit hole. Couldn't pay me enough to live in this dump of a city, lol

I gotta say, I dont know when the last time you were in a school was, but most districts now are adopting a "healthy" offering for lunch. When we were younger, you could get a plate of fries (hmmmm)

In terms of the social agenda, I agree...it is out of control. Parents put so much pressure on districts to coddle their children, that when they finally make it to college, parents are now calling to professors to complain about their grading policies. Too funny at this point. Sometimes I wonder why I work in high school

a simple doctors note will override this. if not, a simple law suit will.

f chicago. gotta love cities that hate guns, disarm the innocent people, and murders are rampant.

Its a good example of the gross stupidity of liberals that they'd actually say it was over health reasons. Even if thats why they wanted it, all they'd have to do is say "Some students were bringing in meals with peanuts or peanut products, and that puts students with allergies at risk of dying" and nobody would have blinked.

I don't think its the liberals, I think its the politicians exploiting liberalism (pretending to be liberals) because it sells policy since the slogans touches peoples hearts. In the end its all about cash and business. In public its all "humanitarian" behind closed doors its all hand shakes and money deals.

Obama is a perfect example of this.

I do fault the liberals for falling for it over and over again.

I like how one tiny example becomes a barometer for liberal thinking lol.

Its not one tiny example, its another marker in a trend that has been going on for a long time that "THEY" know better how OUR children should be raised than we do. From teaching sex in the school, disallowing prayer, forcing schools to teach in languages other than english, etc, its part of a long liberal trend of trying to take over the children's minds as much as possible today so they have more future voters. Its part of the very nature of the progressive movement - personal "freedom" which amazingly means relying on the government and not being a part of a family. The nuclear family has been purposefully ruined to increase reliance on government services.

Great post.

NC school district to give away iPod, laptop to children who participate in vaccination contest

"NaturalNews) The Chapel Hill - Carrboro City School (CHCCS) district in North Carolina has launched a shocking new vaccination contest that offers prize incentives to students who get vaccinated. According to the CHCCS district website, for each vaccine a student receives, he or she will also receive an entry into a drawing to win an Apple iPod or a laptop computer -- and students that get the entire recommended vaccine schedule, which includes the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine for both boys and girls, will be allowed extra entries into the contest and more chances to win than other students."
