So as many here already know, I am in the process of getting my Principal's certification in both NJ and Pa. I have already passed the tests in both states, the only thing left was the internship. Well.....as of today my NJ internship is complete and all the paperwork is in with the state. That means in about 12 years ;) (with how slow NJ is) I will have the actual certificate. It also means that as of June I will have my Pa cert as well.

Starting in March all the openings will get posted and it will be time to start applying and interviewing. :woohoo:

Very nice!!! Got my PA Cert in 2002 to teach Sec Ed / Soc Sci, but let it laps. Too much politics involved in teaching these days. With the way that I handle a classroom, and the way that the stupid testing limits about 90% of teacher creativity, I gave up the idea of having my own classroom. Certification is actually lapsed, and won't renew it unless I find myself unemployed. In the meantime, being a non-traditional teacher with the government seems to be working out ok. :)

thanks man. I have been a HS teacher for the past decade, and it is now time to move on. The kids are an interesting experience, and they make the day fly by. Its never the same day twice.

I do agree about the politics, specifically with standardized testing. Pa presently has a good pension system, so for me the possible opportunity to leave NJ and go to Pa would be a no brainer.

What I do now is go in and do guest speaking to classes or grades or entire schools. I'm in for 30 minutes up to 90, then gone. I still enjoy the HS age kids, and actually just did a 90 minute block class of Jr/Sr this past Monday morning. They're such an interesting age, mostly because i remember what it was like to be them - maybe gives me an edge, I dunno... But to deal with all the other BS from kids nowadays (ie, since when did being gay/bi- become fashionable?!??), let alone the state standards and the standardized tests, I just could not bring myself to do it. I've even voiced my opinion about enforcing the standards straight to Patty Vathis of the PA Dept of Ed. Her response? Bureaucracy. Oy...

I say have some fun running the show for a while, then gun for school board. Hit that one, and you're REALLY rollin' in it!!!

I remember your wife had that promotion you guys were looking forward to not too long ago, and now this. Congrats AE. Good times ahead man.

I've been saying this for years.being in the school system is a rough job to take on.good teachers def need to be paid more money

there most certainly is a lot of red tape in everything you do. Also, dpeending on the classes you teach, the testing is crazy. I teach a great deal of college level AP, and by May(the exam) I am burnt out. It is a fun age, as they try so hard to be adults but then reality kicks in and it is time to call mommy. Always makes me smile

Very true, and I appreciate it. I will say, the state of NJ is a mess, and instead of this (your proposal) many good teachers are getting fired due to budget issues. Very sad
 
Congrats bro ! I taught for 4 years and it just became too much of a political game and I had to deal with heaping scoops of horse sh!t on a daily basis AND coached on top of that. I burned out and aged faster than I should have. Congrats for doing a tough job that doesn't get the credit it deserves.

I remember how difficult it was coaching on top of it as well. I was a football and wrestling coach for a time, and the politics in both arenas was ridiculous.
