2010 College Football Season

in inside source said joepa will stay 4 more years after his current freshman class graduates. He is very optimistic about this team coming up and so am I.

Have you listened to him at his press conferences? He's losing his mind dude. In four years he'll be running out on the field during games trying to play.

I stumbled upon this a few minutes ago....thought is was humoring.

Spiritual awakening

Kiffin lost a game against Notre Dame, but he has not lost the ability to recognize dark humor in a situation, even if it comes at his expense.

Kiffin, of course, continues to be criticized mercilessly by Tennessee fans for bolting to USC after one season.

So who clinched Notre Dame's victory over the Trojans?

Safety Harrison Smith, who played high school football in ... Knoxville, Tenn.

Smith might have been the goat after slipping and letting Johnson get behind him for what would have been a certain touchdown. But Johnson dropped the pass.

A few plays later, Smith's interception clinched the victory.

Said Kiffin, noting Smith's Tennessee connection: "I now officially believe in karma."

An inferiority complex, in the fields of psychology and psychoanalysis, is a feeling that one is inferior to others in some way. Such feelings can arise from an imagined or actual inferiority in the afflicted person. It is often unconscious, and is thought to drive afflicted individuals to overcompensate, resulting either in spectacular achievement or extreme schizotypal behavior,[citation needed] or both. Unlike a normal feeling of inferiority, which can act as an incentive for achievement (or promote discouragement), an inferiority complex is an advanced state of discouragement, often embedding itself into one's lifestyle, and sometimes resulting in a retreat from difficulties.

War eagle. Is inferior winning 15 of the 25 iron bowls since I've been alive? It's great to be an Auburn Tiger.

That link pretty much owns the last 30
Pages of this thread with you ignorant people looking for any theory you could find for him being ineligible.

And to you bike. -- I didn't realize I couldn't post a picture about the biggest athletic event in Alabama this year nor talk about it. I guess if Auburn wins and I post a pic it's inferiority but when rubby posts a pic from the iron bowl three years ago it's all in good love. I had that on my Facebook and more Alabama fans thought it was funny and commented than Auburn.

In case the guy with the inferiority complex has been posting up celebratory comments...

Summing it up: Cam can play, but investigation isn't over. Auburn is in good shape short-term but I actually think worse shape long-term.

Newton case is not over. This is just immediate eligibility ruling. An ongoing enforcement staff investigation can lead to more later

If you read between the lines at the end of the release, this violation has been addressed, but the larger investigation likely ongoing.

It's all in jest man.

Hey JMH, check this out...I hope Champs passes on us this year, because hopefully we won't just be incrementally better or God forbid worse next year.

If UConn, West Virginia and Washington all win, then I think we are looking at Notre Dame vs. Miami in the Sun Bowl. How do I know that? Well, the Sun Bowl said so:

"Our biggest problem is waiting for the opponent to see who it’ll be," Folmer said. "Everybody’s hoping we’ll get Notre Dame, but we’re in a backup position to the Champs [Sports] Bowl."

Folmer added, "If we got Notre Dame, I don’t think there are any ifs, ands or buts that we’d take Miami despite all the things that have happened."

It would be awesome to have an earlier date for the classic Catholics vs Convicts game now, rather than in a few years!

Only idiots like you guys can try to turn this into a negative for Auburn. Quit loading up on the Auburn hatorade and get a new life watching your teams play in weak bowl games while you watch Cam and Auburn play in the National Championship game. Cecil Hurt is the ALABAMA beat writer, btw. The rest of these writers NEED this story to prolong so they dont have to write about horse racing and fly flishing the rest of the season. This Cam situation has been the biggest media hype in the past decade and with them losing it, it's killing them. War Eagle.

Thank you Alabama!

Ruling On Newton Nothing New

By Jason Caldwell
Inside The Auburn Tigers Columnist
Posted Dec 1, 2010

It started on Monday as the NCAA concluded that a violation of amateurism rules occurred and that set the ball in motion for his reinstatement.

When a school finds out that a violation has occurred it’s standard procedure to declare a player ineligible. That happened on Tuesday when Auburn declared Newton ineligible. The school then requests that the student-athlete’s eligibility be reinstated. That was the case on Wednesday as Newton was reinstated without any conditions meaning he’s eligible to play immediately in this weekend’s game against South Carolina.

That has caused disappointment by some national media personalities, and I use that term “media” loosely, who say that it opens a Pandora’s Box of problems and who apparently have a rooting interest in seeing Newton slandered.

What they don’t understand is that the example has already been set and it was set in this very state. I’ve got two words for you, Albert Means.

Signing with and playing for Alabama, the NCAA later ruled that Means had been shopped by high school coaches and those coaches were provided extra benefits by an Alabama booster to choose the Crimson Tide. That made the big defensive tackle ineligible, at Alabama. Not at Memphis though, which is where he transferred.

You see Memphis wasn’t involved in any illegal recruiting of Means and he nor his family got any extra benefits. Therefore he was able to play for the Tigers after sitting out a year because of the transfer. Even though money exchanged hands in the Means case, he was still able to play at Memphis.

In the Newton situation nobody has proven that money exchanged hands. On the contrary everyone involved from the MSU side of things is vehement that it never got past the talking stage.

Looking back some very poetic words by Auburn coach Gene Chizik stand out even more on this cold December day. On Nov. 4 while on his weekly radio show Tiger Talk, Chizik had the following to say. “I’ll say this very loud and very clear,” he said. “Cameron Newton is eligible at Auburn University. Period. End of story.”

I think those words ring very loud and very clear today.

Just found out Auburn does have a new case pending though with the FBI. According to sources Auburn apparently has not been paying property taxes on Bryan-Denny stadium even though they have owned it for the past 10 years. :/

Q. Does this mean the NCAA investigation is over?

A. No. We're talking about two different processes and departments within the NCAA. The reinstatement staff looked specifically at whether the father's actions with Mississippi State were enough to raise eligibility problems for Newton.

Coach, it’s going to cost you $100,000 to get my son.

Dad… what’s my cut?

Hush, Junior. You know nothing.

OK, Dad! Good thinking.

SEC Commissioner Mike Slive attempted to defend his conference’s decision to rule Cam Newton eligible after the NCAA announced its ruling Wednesday.

Slive to Clay Travis of AOL Fanhouse:

1. The intent of the legislation.

Based on my research the league’s intent when it added this bylaw was to ensure that if an athlete participated in an NCAA investigation that he wasn’t able to transfer to another institution within our own conference. Essentially to keep one institution from getting into trouble and then have an individual attend another school in the same conference.

“You could read this bylaw expansively to conclude that an athlete is ineligible at all institutions for receiving a hamburger. I did not believe and do not believe that was the intent of the rule.”

The SEC bylaw: “If any member of his/her family receives or agrees to receive, directly or indirectly, any aid or assistance beyond or in addition to that permitted by the Bylaws of this Conference such student-athlete shall be ineligible for competition in any intercollegiate sport within the Conference for the remainder of his/her college career.”

With all due respect to Mr. Slive, what on earth is he talking about?

2. The uniqueness of this case.

“This was a case of first impression. (A case of first impression has no existing precedent). The SEC had to determine whether it violated SEC bylaws for an individual’s family member to solicit funds from an institution that is different from the one he attended. Ultimately, I had to determine what the appropriate league response was after balancing all of these factors and after considering all of that I did not believe that he had violated our bylaws.”

The SEC bylaw on the books states, “such student-athlete shall be ineligible for competition in any intercollegiate sport within the Conference for the remainder of his/her college career.”

With all due respect to Mr. Slive, what on earth is he talking about?

3. The legislative history of the bylaw

“The league added that bylaw in 1985. That’s a long time ago and since that time it has never been applied by me as commissioner to rule someone ineligible and I don’t believe any of my predecessors have ever applied it to make someone ineligible either. That was significant.”

So if a law is on the books but has never been enforced, it should be ignored?

Ahhh, so that’s what Slive is talking about.

I guess hoping and praying that somehow Cam will be ruled inelligible 5 years down the road is more exciting than your future peach bowl game against a 8-4 big ten team. Just keep wasting your time.

^^I can only imagine what Bama boy is ranting about, but if he's responding to me, he needs therapy.

"Tide should be in position for another title run in 2011"

In general I look at what Nick Saban has done in only a few years and I expect more out of him than any other coach. Most programs would be thrilled to experience the kind of 2010 success that Alabama had, then again most programs aren't like this. Although the loss in the Iron Bowl will leave a bitter taste of many Alabama faithful, having a 3-loss team being looked at as a disappointment isn't a bad thing at all. The Tide will be back next year with a vengeance and in a fantastic position to make another title run. As an Iowa Hawkeye fan, I relish this kind of success while my 2010 season wounds set in.

Quote directly from the article.

" So the NCAA knows that a serious bylaws infraction was committed, but at present they are accepting the excuse that the student-athlete was unaware of his father’s inappropriate actions. "

If this is allowed to fly then consider Pandora's box to be flung wide open, any recruit who's on the take can now use this as an excuse to circumvent the rules. This will be terrible for college football.

No. See you guys just aren't able to comprehend. But this is why this case is DIFFERENT. You guys are using TALKING and ACTUALLY HANDING MONEY OVER as the same thing. NO MONEY WAS EXCHANGED. If money WAS exchanged Miss. St. and Cam Newton would BOTH be in a huge sh!t right now. However, with NO MONEY being exchanged and no proof that Cam was aware of this, you can't throw a kids heisman season down the toilet and make this season a sham because of someones idiot father, who, might I add, did not even follow through on anything. If anything Miss St. should be the ones in trouble right now as they really were aware of this occuring and still continued to recruit Cam Newton.

It is irrelevant to me whether or not Cam Newton knew what his father was doing (I personally believe he did) the point to me is that it is a violation for the father to even seek compensation. The NCAA excepting the ignorance excuse is a disaster for college football in that it sets a precedence for others to follow in the future. Unless I am not reading the reports correctly Miss St did in fact report the extortion attempt so I'm not sure why you feel that of all the shady parties involved they should be punished. Your desire for all to be well at Auburn has severely impaired your judgment.

Again, MISS ST. CONTINUED TO RECRUIT CAMERON NEWTON AFTER THEY KNEW OF THESE ALLEGATIONS. Auburn is OUT of the equation unless they find out that Auburn did pay for his services (which is not going to happen because the FBI would of found the money and someone would of come out by now). The only chance the world of Auburn haters has right now is a tape with Cam aknowledging the deal or a money trail linked to Auburn. Good luck on both of those things. Also, you do realize Auburn ASKED the NCAA and SEC before they signed Cam and made sure he was eligible to be signed. I know you want more than anything for there to be a huge underlying drama to this. But, in reality, the facts are out there, Cam IS eligible, and that's not going to change. Move on.

How fitting...

It was reported that ESPN will air its latest 30 for 30 documentary, "Pony Excess", directly after... the Heisman presentation. It will cover the rise and fall of the SMU football program, including its death penalty.

;)

Never let it be said that ESPN doesn't have a sense of humor.

Auburn has officially turned the SEC/NCAA into a national joke.

I just read that article and...excuse me for a minute :puke: I had wipe the sleaze out of my eyes after reading that piece of crap. The article only deepens my conviction that Auburn and sCam are getting away with murder here. If you had any shame you would be ashamed of yourself for taking the position you have in the matter. College football doesn't look as good to me right now as it did in years past. Integrity = :Flush:

That's because you are a hater. If this was Terelle Pryor you'd be in 100% agreement. Name ONE thing that Auburn did wrong in this process to. Auburn reported, conducted an investigation, deemed him inelligible when instructed to, then reinstated him when he was eligible again. There is ZERO proof Auburn did ANYTHING in this situation. The only proof is that Cecil talked to a moron Miss St. booster and nothing came through of it. That is by no means enough to warrant ruining this season of college football. If people went to jail everytime they talked about doing something against the law there would be a hell of alot of people in jail. Too bad this country isn't based on that concept.

And if you want to say "if he did it at one place, of course he did it at others", you're missing key points. Kenny Rogers is the ONLY reason this occured at Miss St. I can guarantee you that Rogers came to Cecil about the situation, Cecil might of been interested at first, but when he came to see the problems that would arise if it did go through he abondoned it. That's why he told his son " GO TO AUBURN ". He knew if he went to Miss St. this would be nasty, and it would be nasty right now too. But since Auburn did nothing illegal in the recruitment process and there is NO MIDDLE MAN ( KENNY ROGERS ), Auburn would be fine to take him.

You can save this and paste it on your wall next to your computer and if I end up being wrong, PLEASE do give me hell for it. But I am as close to 100% sure that this is what actually occured as I can be.

Not only that, but we’re all to believe that Newton – who was 20 at the time – never had any clue that his father was so far down the path of trying to sell Cam's services to Mississippi State that Cecil Newton was instructing Rogers to send text messages to boosters outlining the payment schedule?

I’ll let everybody make up their own minds as to what they do and don’t believe.

And we won’t even broach the obvious next question: So Cecil Newton just arbitrarily quit shopping his kid after the first pay-for-play attempt was unsuccessful?

Again, make up your own mind.

But the facts are this: There is no evidence at this point that Auburn did anything wrong, that Cam Newton or anybody received a cent or that Cam Newton knew anything about his father’s shady dealings.

It’s been a great season, a memorable season in a lot of ways, and Cam Newton is the most dynamic football player I’ve seen in this conference since Herschel Walker.

But if you don’t reside in that 334 area code, it’s a season that will forever have an asterisk attached to it.

I have never given a thought to Auburn in my life so you're assertion that I'm just a hater is so far from the truth, it does however fit right in with your m.o. where the situation is concerned. If this were Terrelle Pryor I would be horrified and disillusioned as hell and I promise you I wouldn't be in here defending the situation blindly as you have done, if you think I would it's because you don't know me very well. If this were OSU and Terrelle Pryor I would turn off the games and walk away in disgust. The fact that at this point nothing can tie Auburn to wrong doing does not mean it didn't happen. The school has a long history dating from the 1950s of institutional cheating couple that with what is know about the case and it seems nearly impossible that Auburn isn't dirty as they have so often been. I only hope that the FBI investigation can uncover the truth or at the very least S. Carolina can beat Auburn in the SEC championship game. Go Gamec0cks!

Just like ALL of you said GO BAMA and every other team Auburn has beat this year.

If you don't believe me about this case being different due to NOTHING BEING EXCHANGED, maybe the NCAA's PRESIDENT can clear it up for you in the release they just made.

But you guys are definitely more informed and educated than him, I'm sure! I bet the NCAA just has a love affair with Auburn, oh wait, they don't. The difference is that they go by FACTS, you go by FEELINGS.

According to NCAA bylaw $1.3.45.68,000, I have violated the rules of amateurism. I am therefore ineligible to continue writing this sentence. Fortunately, however, I have just been fully reinstated! An exhaustive NCAA inquiry of several seconds has found that while rules were clearly violated, none was broken. Hence, my ineligibility has resulted in the following punishment: I am eligible again. But I wish to make clear that these actions are unacceptable. There is no place for them in intercollegiate athletics, except at Auburn.

Yep, a national joke.

Well, we ought to have a pretty good NC game.. AU/OR. Both teams killed their competition today! Gotta admit, Cam lit those ****ers up today!

I like what he said on the national stage about God being w/ him.. WTF!!??

Yeah you would be suprised because all you listen to is ignorant reporters who make every attempt to make him look bad. He's a good guy and has a good heart. He made some mistakes YEARS ago but you can see he is genuine. I'm sure rub/buck/99% of reporters will love to take the emphasis on how Auburn was really an AMAZING team this year and change it back to Cam Newton. Cam didn't win that game today by himself, our Offensive and Defensive lines DOMINATED South Carolina. I could not be more proud or impressed by these guys. They were by no means a perfect team, probably not even one of the most talented in the SEC. But they had the right pieces in place and played every game with a ton of heart and never gave up. That's what a real champion is.

I always laugh when people say that after they win . . . what does the loser say after a game? "Damn God didnt help me, it's his fault!"

If they believe in a god I am pretty sure that god did not help you while making sure th other team lost . . .

It is rather amusing how rubberring has said that I am obsessed with Alabama multiple times throughout this thread. He wasn't as bad about it til Auburn beat Alabama then decided the only way he could save face and not have to take the hit for his team getting beat after he talked trash all season saying it wouldn't happen. Then he decided to turn this into the Cam Newton/Auburn thread. His sources make me think he might be searching EXTRA hard to find material too considering his last few have been Ebay/Washington Post/Fox Sports South West?? While my last link came from the NCAA. hmm?

I like all the arguing back and forth . . . like it's gonna make a difference. Believe/feel what you may, keep it to yourself, it's a worthless argument because it is on your personal bias so no one wins.

I just watch football . . . I do not root for any team, why? because they do not affect my life. If my team loses then my life is worse? Why would you even let that affect you?

Isn't that pretty much what that dude from the Buffalo Bills did last week after dropping that TD pass in OT? He friggin tweeted his complaints to God!:trout:

I knew there'd be a douchebag comment like this. Man, I played sports in HS (football, soccer) and college (soccer) so I am not sure who you are talking to.

A friend's fiance made the same comment once because I said I love watching all competitive teams, I dont root for any one team. He was wearing his USC watch, USC t-shirt, USC tattoo . . . didnt go to college. So why does he care so much?

Sorry if I am just more evolved than you, sports wins/losses do not affect me . . . what I accomplish is most important to me.

Good day

I didn't know you couldn't accomplish things while being a fan of a team. Natural human tendancy makes people more attached to certain things. Maybe if you realized I live in Alabama, where college football is ridiculously popular and everyone here is either an Alabama/Auburn fan. I guess I got sucked into it. But it is nice to have a team that you follow and have an attachment too, makes football season alot more fun. I do share your viewpoint with regards to the NFL, I can't get into it to save my life.
