I see. Isn't metal divided into different genres? Like death, punk, rock, trash and so on? I've been told that Linkin' Park are New (or Nu) Metal, and even though I personally like a lot of their stuff, I'd never categorize them as metal.

Thrash not trash and I wouldn't call Linkin Park metal either, although I'm not a fan of nu metal and anything nu metal I just consider heavy alternative rock hell even limp bizkit is considered nu metal.
 
I always thought Red Hot Chili Peppers fell under alternative rock, and bands like Bon Jovi were classic rock (they are more contemporary to my teens and youth so forgive me if they 're considered less worthy than bands like ACDC, Van Halen etc whom I must admit I never took to).
 
Yea different genres.. i dont know what the criteria is to be considered metal.. its pretty subjective, but sh** like linkin park and limp bizkit is NOT metal IMO. It may also depend on the particular song..

Some selective Bon Jovi can be considered "hair metal".. again my opinion.

Stuff that i listen to is metal without a doubt.. and FYI, motherf**ck nickelback :burnout:

I hate using wiki as a source, but it save a lot of typing in this case. Here is their list of metal sub-genre's...it show's 31 but there are still some missing.

Russian metal (Probably some other sub genre but I don't care about sub genres); I think its pretty good. The bands name is Ten Tonn Hammer and I'm pretty sure they are new, at least to America.
