I was minding my own business getting a physical yesterday and my doctor brought it to my attention that I am apparently obese and he needed me to talk to a nurse about effective weight loss strategies. I mentioned that I'm huge on purpose and work very hard on maintaining it. He said it was irrelevant and that my BMI of 31 was very unhealthy (6'5 265). After a lecture about obesity from this earnest young woman we went over to the sports medicine building where I had to both jump in a tank of water and get calipered to death to find my BF percent. Averaged out they came up with 10.2 percent. She suggested I try to halve that and recommended I follow a 1200 calorie diet until I get my weight down to 220 and can be reassessed. This afternoon I'll be looking for a new doctor. Anyone else out there running around with 10 percent body fat that is obese?
