I laugh about it too. I would have never imagined anything like this being possible.

Whats crazy is the earliest known writings are Sumerian clay tablets and they talk about, are you ready, 'a race of extraterrestrial Gods called the AN.UNNAK.KI (Those Who From Heaven To Earth Came). Sumer was called KI.EN.GIR in the tablets which literally translates to 'Land of the Lord of The Blazing Rockets'. Of all the things to decide it was important to keep a record of, this is what they write????

The Sumerian tablets describe the planets of our solar system so accurately mentioning the number and environment of each, of which these have only been confirmed by our civilization in this past century. How did they acquire this knowledge?

How did they acquire this knowledge?

A lot of people don't realize that the bible actually pointed out that the earth hung upon nothing and was round long before we had the technology to know this for ourselves. The bible doesn't touch scientific topics much but when it does it is accurate. For those science nerds like myself these scriptures were eye opening.

Job 26:7 "He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, [and] hangeth the earth upon nothing"

Isiah 40:22 "[It is] he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof [are] as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

Again, you and I are not going to agree, as you are quoting the text to prove the text. That in and of itself is fallacious IMO.

In terms of 666, the reference to Nero was based on the time of the creation of the text and the behavior of the "king" that many were familiar with at the time. I am certain you know your Roman history and understand their treatment of Jews and Christians alike. So the most plausable conclusion is usually the correct one.

Good day

No need to be curt. Many of the scriptures I have referenced were written well before the time of Nero although they coincide with each other and are referenced by Jesus himself. Also I did not just use text to prove text if you had read all that I had written, you would realize that it is greatly based on knowledge, deduction and logical reasoning from the scriptures. As it happens I do know a bit about Roman history and the prophecies concerning that time and its parallel today.

In Jesus’ day, the Roman Empire ruled much of the earth and had its own ideas about peace and security. It had, by means of its legions, enforced the Pax Romana (Roman Peace) throughout much of the known world. But the Pax Romana could never be a permanent peace, because pagan Rome and its legions could never bring about a reconciliation between man and God. Hence, the Kingdom that Jesus announced was far superior.

Nevertheless, the majority of Jesus’ fellow countrymen rejected God’s Kingdom. (John 1:11; 7:47,*48; 9:22) Their rulers, viewing Jesus as a threat to national security, handed him over to be executed, insisting: “We have no king but Caesar.” (John 11:48; 19:14,*15) Some Jews, however, and later many Gentiles, gladly recognized Jesus as God’s chosen King. (Colossians 1:13-20) They preached about him in many lands, and Jerusalem became the center of an international association of Christians.—Acts 15:2; 1*Peter 5:9.

Despite the fact that the Jews had chosen Caesar over Christ, relations between Jerusalem and Rome soon deteriorated. Jewish Zealots conducted guerrilla campaigns against the empire until finally, in 66*C.E., open warfare erupted. Roman troops tried to restore Pax Romana, and soon Jerusalem was under siege. For Christians this was significant. Many years before, Jesus had warned: “When you see Jerusalem surrounded by encamped armies, then know that the desolating of her has drawn near. Then let those in Judea begin fleeing to the mountains, and let those in the midst of her withdraw.” (Luke 21:20,*21) Jerusalem was now surrounded, and the Christians waited for an opportunity to flee.

This came quickly. The Romans were undermining the temple wall, and many Jews were ready to surrender when the Roman commander, Cestius Gallus, unexpectedly withdrew his troops and left. The Zealots seized the opportunity to reorganize their defenses, but the Christians abandoned the doomed city. In 70*C.E., Roman legions were back, encamped around the walls of Jerusalem, and this time the city perished. How does this historical tragedy affect us? In this: Jesus’ warning that saved his followers’ lives also has meaning for us today.

More Than One Fulfillment

This warning was part of a long prophecy uttered by Jesus in response to an important question. His followers had asked: “When will [the destruction of the Jewish temple] be, and what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?” In answer, Jesus gave a sign made up of many features, including the besieging of Jerusalem. (Matthew*24; Mark*13; Luke*21) In the years following Jesus’ death, many of the features of this prophecy were fulfilled, culminating in the destruction of Jerusalem and the Jewish system of things in 70*C.E.—Matthew 24:7,*14; Acts 11:28; Colossians 1:23.

However, the disciples had also asked about Jesus’ “presence,” which the Bible associates with the end of a whole world system of things. (Daniel 2:44; Matthew 24:3,*21) Since Jesus’ spiritual presence and the end of the worldwide system of things did not happen in the first century, a future, greater fulfillment of Jesus’ prophecy could be expected, with those first-century events providing a pattern for the larger fulfillment. This would include a larger fulfillment of Jesus’ warning about the destruction of Jerusalem.

This becomes more evident if we examine the way this warning was recorded in the other two Bible books where it appears. In Matthew the besieging troops are described as “the disgusting thing that causes desolation, as spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in a holy place.” (Matthew 24:15) In Mark’s account “the disgusting thing” stands “where it ought not.” (Mark 13:14) Matthew’s account says that “the disgusting thing” was also mentioned in the book of Daniel. In fact, the expression “disgusting thing” appears three times in that book: once (in the plural) in Daniel 9:27 where it is part of a prophecy fulfilled when Jerusalem was destroyed in 70*C.E., and then, in Daniel 11:31 and Daniel 12:11. According to these latter two scriptures, a “disgusting thing” was to be set in place during “the time appointed,” or “the time of the end.” (Daniel 11:29; 12:9) We have been living in “the time of the end” since 1914; hence, Jesus’ warning applies today too.—Matthew 24:15.

Christendom’s Choice

In our century, events have followed a pattern similar to that of the first century. Today, as then, there is an empire dominating the world scene. The modern one is the Anglo-American world power, which tries hard to impose its own ideas about peace and security on mankind. In the first century, fleshly Israel rejected Jesus as God’s anointed King. In 1914 Jesus’ “presence” as God’s enthroned King began. (Psalm 2:6; Revelation 11:15-18) But the nations, including those of Christendom, refused to acknowledge him. (Psalm 2:2, 3, 10,*11) In fact, they got involved in a vicious world war for international sovereignty. The religious leaders of Christendom—like the Jewish*leaders—have taken the lead in rejecting Jesus. Since 1914 they have consistently acted in the political arena and have opposed the preaching of the truth.—Mark 13:9.

“The Disgusting Thing” Today

What, then, is the modern “disgusting thing that causes desolation”? In the first century it was the Roman troops sent to reimpose Pax Romana in Jerusalem. In modern times, however, the nations that fought in World War*I became disillusioned about the usefulness of all-out war in imposing peace and experimented with something new: an international organization to preserve world peace. This began life in 1919 as the League of Nations and still exists as the United Nations. Here is the modern “disgusting thing that causes desolation.”

Interestingly, the Hebrew word translated “disgusting thing” in Daniel is shiq·quts′. In the Bible, this word is used principally of idols and idolatry. (1*Kings 11:5,*7) With this in mind, read some comments by religious leaders about the League:

“What is this vision of a world-federation of humanity .*.*. if it be not of the Kingdom of God?” “The League of Nations is rooted in the Gospel.” (Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America) “Every one of [the League of Nations’] objects and activities may be claimed as fulfilling the will of God as made known in the teaching of Jesus Christ.” (Bishops of the Church of England) “The meeting therefore commends to the support and prayers of all Christian people the League of Nations as the only available instrument for attaining [peace on earth].” (General Body of Baptists, Congregationalists, and Presbyterians in Britain). “[The League of Nations] is the only organised effort which has been made to carry into effect the repeated wishes of the Holy See.”—Cardinal Bourne, Archbishop of Westminster.

When the nations not only rejected God’s Kingdom but also established their own organization to bring peace, that was rebellion. When religious leaders of Christendom identified that organization with God’s Kingdom and the Gospel, proclaiming it to be “the only available instrument” for bringing peace, that was idolatry. They were putting it in the position of God’s Kingdom, “in a holy place.” Certainly, it was “standing where it ought not.” (Matthew 24:15; Mark 13:14) And religious leaders continue to support the League’s successor, the United Nations, rather than point men to God’s established Kingdom.

The Danger to Christendom

Although Christendom’s religions chose the League of Nations and its successor over God’s Kingdom, their relations with the member nations of these organizations have deteriorated. This is similar to what happened between the Jews and Rome. Since 1945 the United Nations has included more and more countries that are either unchristian or antichristian, and this does not bode well for Christendom.

Moreover, in many lands there is friction between Christendom’s religions and the State. In Poland the Catholic Church is seen as an opponent of the regime there. In Northern Ireland and Lebanon, religions of Christendom have exacerbated the problems of peace and security. Additionally, Christendom’s religions have produced some who, like the Jewish Zealots, encourage violence. Thus, the Protestant World Council of Churches has made donations to terrorist organizations, while Catholic priests fight in the jungles as guerrillas and serve in revolutionary governments.

Time alone will reveal how far relations will deteriorate between Christendom’s religions and the nations, but events in the first century have already foreshadowed how all of this will end. As Jesus foresaw, in the first century Rome’s armies finally destroyed Jerusalem with much tribulation. True to the prophetic pattern, the nations along with the United Nations will attack and destroy “Jerusalem,” that is, Christendom’s religious structure.—Luke 21:20,*23.

Flee to the Mountains

In the first century, after “the disgusting thing” appeared, Christians had the opportunity to flee. Jesus counseled them to do so instantly because they did not know how long that opportunity would last. (Mark 13:15,*16) In the same way, when meekhearted people today discern that “the disgusting thing” exists, they should immediately flee from the religious domain of Christendom. Every second they stay therein their spiritual lives are in danger, and who knows how long the opportunity to flee will be open to them?

19 Luke’s gospel warned Christians of his day to flee when they saw “Jerusalem surrounded by encamped armies.” As already noted, those armies came in 66*C.E., and the opportunity to flee arose that same year when Cestius Gallus withdrew his troops. After the Christians fled, war continued between the Jews and the Romans—although not around Jerusalem. Vespasian was sent by Emperor Nero to Palestine, and successful campaigns were conducted there in 67 and 68. Then Nero died, and Vespasian got involved in the Imperial succession. But after he was made emperor in 69*C.E., he sent his son Titus to finish the Judean war. In 70*C.E., Jerusalem was destroyed.

Christians, though, did not wait in Jerusalem to see all of that. As soon as they first saw the besieging armies, they knew the city was in deadly danger. Likewise today, the instrument of Christendom’s destruction has appeared. Hence, as soon as we discern the danger that Christendom is in, we should ‘flee to the mountains,’ Jehovah’s place of refuge with his theocratic organization. Other prophecies give no basis for believing that there will be a breathing space between the initial attack on Christendom and her final desolation. In truth, there will be no need for such a pause in hostilities. Meekhearted ones are wise to flee from Christendom now.

Jerusalem and Christendom

Should we be surprised that in the first century “the disgusting thing” appeared just before the destruction of Jerusalem, whereas today it appeared right at the beginning of this world’s time of the end? No. In each case, “the disgusting thing” appeared at the moment Jehovah wanted his people to flee. In the first century, Christians had to remain for a time in Jerusalem in order to preach there. (Acts 1:8) Only in 66*C.E., when destruction was imminent, did a “disgusting thing” appear, warning them to flee. But to be “in” modern-day Jerusalem means to be part of the religious domain of Christendom. It is impossible to serve God acceptably in such a corrupt and apostate environment. Hence, early in this world’s time of the end “the disgusting thing” appeared, warning Christians to flee. The flight out of Christendom is ongoing, each person having a warning to flee as soon as he discerns that “the disgusting thing” is in place.

You of course are free to make your own choices an opinions but be warned that the marking of the sheep and the goats has begun. Do not be mislead.

half the movies that have come out, a good chunk of books, and general talk all often involve some sort of apocalypse anymore. Everything is about the end of mankind nowadays. Be it zombie apocalypse, war induced apocalypse, faith induced apocalypse, viral/bacterial induced apocalypse its a huge trend.

Fascinating in some aspects, but yet at the same time I am wondering(though some of you may have an equal understanding/idea) about what it is fascinating people with the end of humanity. While I read the Good Book, and I have my reason, I am interested in others ideas on the worldwide fascination with our end.

I really am trying to stay away, but it is not working. However this is the last comment for me.

First, please stop cutting and pasting (if you ar enot, I apologize)

All you are really doing is "soap boxing". Please remember that during the Pax Romana, there was a period of peace, at least enough to use as propaganda for Augustus. Additionally, there was no need for them to bring a connection between man and god. It was not their beliefs, and was part of the reason that they fought so vehemently to suppress monotheism. Remember, Pliny the Elder even wrote about Christianity as nothing more than a cult.

Furthermore, when looking at the acceptance of Christianity, remember why it was done. COnstantine was not a christian until his death bed, he felt no "desire" to be Christian. It was a political tool more than anything else.

Additionally, I am not sure if this was you that said it, in reference to the texts making reference to the Earth being round. Please bear in mind, the ancients knew it. From the Egyptians to the Greeks to the Romans. They all knew it. That information was lost during the dark ages when everyone turned all their attention to god and religion and away from reason and science. For proof, take a look a the art of the time.

I accept your apology as you have obviously never read any similar threads that I have participated in. I do have a large number of reference material, talks and essays that I have previously written and can easily copy though. I do not believe that is plagiarism though, merely streamlined research haha =D

Also to your claim of "soapboxing" I would say no, I am trying to teach from the Bible as to what the Bible's viewpoint is. If you choose to disagree with this then you can refute it from the Bible itself, as I can see you do not read and digest all that I write from your responses.

The Greeks and Romans yes, had knowledge of a spherical earth, The Egyptians however only knew that it was round. They believed it to be a flat disk in point of fact, not a sphere. The Bible had the knowledge of a "spherical earth" contained in its pages centuries before. No, it was not me who mentioned it first but I thought I would answer it.

I agree false Christianity has been a tool of politics and war. It has been a way to control the masses and manipulate them. It has frankly been used as an excuse to do things that Jesus would never himself endorse. True Christians however, follow the Christ and his example,so in turn follow the one true God. It has always been so since the beginning. There have been ones who obey and ones ones who corrupt themselves and others to false teachings, away from the true God.

Jesus was accused of being a drunkard, a glutton, a Sabbath breaker, a false witness, a blasphemer of God, and a messenger of Satan. He was also accused of being subversive. This all by fellow Jews no less. What would you expect from others who hated Christ and all he represented?—Matthew 9:34; 11:19; 12:24; 26:65; John 8:13; 9:16; 19:12.

After Jesus’ death and resurrection, his disciples were likewise the target of serious accusations. One group of first-century Christians were dragged to the city rulers by people crying out: ‘These men have overturned the inhabited earth.’ (Acts 17:6) On another occasion the apostle Paul and his companion Silas were taken to the authorities and charged with greatly disturbing the city of Philippi.—Acts 16:20.

Paul was later accused of being a “pestilent fellow and stirring up seditions among all the Jews throughout the inhabited earth” and of trying “to profane the temple.” (Acts 24:5,*6) The principal men of the Jews in Rome accurately described the situation of Jesus’ followers when they acknowledged: “For truly as regards this sect it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against.”—Acts 28:22.

Evidently, this new group established by Jesus Christ was considered by some to be a religious group with radical views and practices that clashed with what was accepted in those days as normal social behavior. Undoubtedly, many today would have considered the Christians a destructive cult. The accusers were often prominent and respected members of the community, and this seems to have added weight to the allegations. Many believed the accusations against Jesus and his disciples. Yet, every one of these charges was false! The fact that people said these things did not make them true.

“You will be objects of hatred by all people on account of my name.”—MATTHEW 10:22.

This reminds me of people who think as you do and reinforces my studies of the bible.

Peter 3:1-18
1 Beloved ones, this is now the second letter I am writing YOU, in which, as in my first one,
I am arousing YOUR clear thinking faculties by way of a reminder, 2 that YOU should remember
the sayings previously spoken by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior
through YOUR apostles. 3 For YOU know this first, that in the last days there will come ridiculers
with their ridicule, proceeding according to their own desires 4 and saying: “Where is this promised
presence of his? Why, from the day our forefathers fell asleep [in death],
all things are continuing exactly as from creation’s beginning.”

Continuing where I left off.

Will This World Survive?

No other generation has heard so much talk about the end of the world.
Many fear that the world will end in a nuclear holocaust.
Others think that pollution may destroy the world.
Still others worry that economic chaos will set masses of humanity against one another.

Could this world really end? If it did, what would it mean?
Has a world ever ended before?

Yes, a world did end. Consider the world that became very wicked in the days of Noah.
The Bible explains: “The world of that time suffered destruction when it was deluged with water.” The Bible also says: “[God] did not hold back from punishing an ancient world, but kept Noah, a preacher of righteousness, safe with seven others when he brought a deluge upon a world of ungodly people.”—2*Peter 2:5; 3:6.

When Jesus spoke about the great Flood, he told his disciples about what the people had been doing just before the end came. This is what he said to them: “In those days before the flood, [people were] eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark; and they took no note until the flood came and swept them all away.” Then Jesus said that people would be acting just like that before this world ends.—Matthew 24:37-39

Note what the end of that world meant and what it did not mean.
It did not mean the end of humankind. Noah and his family survived the global Flood.
So did the planet Earth and the beautiful starry heavens.
It was “a world of ungodly people” that perished, a wicked system of things.

Eventually, as Noah’s offspring increased, another world developed.
That second world, or system of things, has existed down to our day.
Its history has been filled with war, crime, and violence.
What will happen to this world? Will it survive?

The Future of This World

After saying the world in Noah’s day suffered destruction, the Bible account continues:
“By the same word the heavens and the earth that are now are stored up for fire.”
(2*Peter 3:7) Indeed, as another Bible writer explains: “The world [the one existing today]
is passing away.”—1*John 2:17.

The Bible does not mean that the literal earth or the starry heavens will pass away,
even as these did not pass away in Noah’s day. (Psalm 104:5) Rather, this world, with its
“heavens,” or governmental rulers under the influence of Satan, and its “earth,”
or human society, will be destroyed as if by fire. (John 14:30; 2*Corinthians 4:4)
This world, or system of things, will perish just as surely as did the world before the
Flood. Even Jesus Christ spoke about the situation in “the days of Noah” as an example of
what would happen just prior to the end of this world.—Matthew 24:37-39.

Significantly, when Jesus spoke of the days of Noah, it was in answer to his apostles’
question: “What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?”
(Matthew 24:3, King James Version) Jesus’ followers knew that this world would end.
Did this prospect frighten them?

On the contrary, when Jesus described events that would occur prior to the world’s end,
he encouraged them to rejoice ‘because their deliverance was getting near.’ (Luke 21:28)
Yes, deliverance from Satan and his wicked system of things into a peaceful new world!—2*Peter 3:13.

But when will this world end? What “sign” did Jesus give of his “coming,
and of the end of the world”?

“The Sign”

The Greek word here translated “coming” is pa·rou·si′a, and it means “presence,” that is,
actually being on hand. So when “the sign” is seen,
it would not mean Christ was soon to come but that he had already returned and was present.
It would mean that he had begun ruling invisibly as a heavenly king and that he would soon
bring an end to his enemies.
—Revelation 12:7-12; Psalm 110:1,*2.

Jesus did not give just one event as “the sign.” He described many world events
and situations. All of these would take place during the time that Bible writers
called “the last days.” (2*Timothy 3:1-5; 2*Peter 3:3,*4) Consider some of the
things that Jesus foretold would mark “the last days.”

“Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom.” (Matthew 24:7)
War in modern times has been of greater magnitude than ever before. One historian noted:
“The First World War [beginning in 1914] was the first ‘total’ war.”
Yet, the second world war was much more destructive.
And war continues to ravage the earth. Yes, Jesus’ words have undergone
fulfillment in a dramatic way!

“There will be food shortages.” (Matthew 24:7)
Following World War*I came perhaps the greatest famine in all history.
Terrible famine also followed World War*II. A scourge of malnutrition affects up to one fifth
of earth’s population, killing some 14 million children every year. Truly, there have been “food shortages”!

And, why does my thinking or what you perceive it as being reinforce your studies of the bible? My other question would be, why would it not reinforce your studies of the bible, isn't this what gives you reason, purpose?

It's easy for information to "disappear" when one is being judged because of it. It is easy to show ignorance when one can be murdered because of intelligence.

How is it that we assume, just because recent history tells us, that no one knew the earth was round? We have no way to substantiate those claims besides what we've learned in recent history ....

On the flip side of that, it wasn't THAT LONG ago that we were still burning people because we thought they were possessed when they were actually mentally disable.

Never the less...again...

It's no secret man has used religion to control people. I mean the latest today we got the extremist muslims funding terrorism all in the name of god they claim. But one so called christian is not the same as another. There are clear guidelines on how to live your life in the bible. The mass amounts of so called christians do not live up to this. I'm not here to say I'm perfect or I'm a True christian. I have not lived up to these standards in my lifetime but jesus was very clear that the person that does the will of his father is the one that will be saved. These men using religion and claiming they speak for god are fakes. Nothing more then the devil in disguise. These men are not christians. Jesus never looked out for his own advantage, he always did the will of his father. A true christian does the same.

Matt 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

And, why does my thinking or what you perceive it as being reinforce your studies of the bible? My other question would be, why would it not reinforce your studies of the bible, isn't this what gives you reason, purpose?

"^Strange, seeing as I feel this has been happening since existence but i digress...I cannot name one era that did not involve 99% to each of what you quoted...again though..."

You base your thinking on a general broad manner of thinking I deem from what you write. You have not delved into the deep things of the Bible or of History itself. In short it seems you are uneducated in scripture and history itself. That is my observation so do not take it as reproach, on what you have written.
That in itself does not give me purpose. Refuting the claims of unbelievers does not give me purpose. It reinforces my studies so that I can be better equipped to preach and teach, to help people help themselves before they are destroyed. It gives me purpose to serve the one true God, יהוה ,YHWH, Yahweh, Jehovah.

I don't know about Jesus Rolling up in a UFO asking if we missed him. or obama morphing into the fallen one, or earth cleaning the slate. But If there is going to be an apocalypse I will be proud to have witnessed it (given it does happen while I'm alive) and I believe the strong will survive.

It undoubtedly coincides with the end of the Oprah show. The world just cannot continue on without it. Its simple physics

I want to get in on this one as soon as I get home and have time to devote to the discussion properly. I believe i can refute many of your statements Ronin. However, it may come down to a circle jerk if we're only able to use the Bible to prove or disprove any opinions or facts.
