2 Month vacation....

Ever feel like you need to get away? You need to go somewhere,a place no one knows you? Well after a long and very sad few months I have applied and gotten a job as a bartender on a cruise ship. I have taken a 2 month leave from my job and will return on Sept 1st to begin school and my job again. I am 98% sure this is the right thing to do and most likely the most selfish thing I have ever done, something for me. I am sad, I have lost one of my very best friends, work is really getting to me, suffered a huge sadness that until it was taken from me I never knew I cared, and its nothing i can get back. Working my job I dont talk to my friends really, there sleeping when I can talk, and when they can talk I am working.

In the grand scheme of things, this may be just what the Doctor ordered. Anyway, I may or may not have service, (taking laptop)....So if not see ya in 2 :)

Sometimes you have to jump off the edge :) I dont think its really all that selfish to do something for you. What good are we if we dont take care of ourselves? Emotional health I would actually put above physical considering the power of psychosomatic influence.

I hope you enjoy yourself, I have been on a undesired 6 month vacation...haha

Be sure to enjoy yourself, and dont look back.

And sorry to hear about the loss of someone close. May comfort for your sadness wash over you like the rising suns light.

Good for you! The most valuable assets we have are our physical and mental health, and sometimes we just need to take a break from everyday life in order to do something to preserve our health. I have found that similar getaways have saved my sanity numerous times in the past, and I hope you get the same results and come home feeling vibrant and refreshed.

I hope the ship has a decent fitness center and good chefs on board! Heh, those would be the top two things I would care about!

it would only be selfish if you had a child you were leaving behind. Otherwise enjoy for sure! should be able to see new things, make new friends, maybe learn new languages as well. I'd love to be able to do it.

Good for you, girl. It's not selfish at all, go have fun, enjoy yourself as much as you can, make sure you hook up with some hot dude and post some pictures (not the guy but yourself) :)

economics states there is a difference between self-interested and selfishness, most people are self-interested based... that is what this decision is and I think it is probably a well vested decision. A get away may not be a bad thing and surely do not feel bad about giving yourself some slack.

hey you do what you can do

right now im working 6-7days a week leave my house at 7 get home at 8, all i want to do is relax and go to bed, long hours and days, 2hour travel each direction but like yourself your on a cruise ship im on the beach

2 jobs back before i started teaching, i was working construction away from home, lived there m-f came home on weekends, i lived iwth 3 dudes in 50+ and im 27 it was weird haha, 2 were vegan and 3 were organic and me the try and eat healthy anything goes kinda guy lots of meat veggies etc

its good to sometimes just get away, not see friends for a while, but still talk from time to time etc, keep your head up

That would be philosophy. Economics has refused these questions for a long, long time. An economists may respond to such a question, or may discuss how self interest is an influence in economic forces, but defining subjective terms and ascribing value to them is the realm of philosophy.

my microeconomics book quotes that line of people being self interest based and not selfish.

Exactly Jake! I'm sure you realize now how short life is. Get your ass out there and have some FUN! Not only that, you're gonna make some good $$$ with that captive audience. I bet you're gonna look back on this as one of your best decisions. Think of it as a "Mental Health Break." Cheers. What happens on the cruise ship stays on the cruise ship...except herpes. That **** comes back with ya.

I agree I cant wait to walk away from life for a little bit, well 2 months I think the hardest part is leaving my 8 and 2 yr old nephews!!! I live for the hugs and the "I love you's"....... BUT Its 2 months and if i DONT do this I will most likely go insane, I never realized how much helping people for 34 yrs can take a toll on someone!!!!! I Love what I do, dont get me wrong but now is my time, if this is the only time i take for myself ever now is the time :)

I leave Wed, see you on Sept 1st just in time for classes and work :)
