MY GYM'S A/C is "BROKEN"...

Now, I just rejoined this gym 5 days ago, but I've been a member for over a year. It was 90 today in NYC and they didn't have the A/C on. The A/C "broke" once in a while last summer too, but we were told it was fixed during the recent renovation.

I paid for a yearly membership, but want a refund.

I paid with my American Express, do you think I should dispute the charge and try to get my money back? If so, what should I say? can I even fight the charge over something like this?

I already tried resolving this issue with the gym owner but she said that her cancellation policy is "No Refunds".

Thanks for any help guys!

The gym I go to has no AC. Never has, never will. Cardio room is upstairs. We do just fine lol, and the temps here in WV can easily hit 100 in the summer, with very high humidity. In fact, last few days have been in the 80's.

I guess I'm sayin, ya don't need AC. I wouldn't dispute the bill.

you're nuts. I walked out today because it was too hot to workout. oh and there are no windows in the weight room either.

whatsaroid you're reasoning makes no sense to me bro. we can all TECHNICALLY live without A/C. but when you drive your car in the summer do you drive with the windows closed and the heat on to be tough?

I know i CAN work out there, and if i can't get a refund I have no choice, but I want to workout at a place where I can be comfortable. I dont think thats a crime, considering I'm paying.

True, but my reasoning is I wouldn't mind or care much if not having one.

How much did you pay? I paid 599 for mine for 3 years then 99 a year there after.

lol... I pay 17.50 a month when I signed a 18month contract. Its up to $37.50 a month now, but I added my fiancee and my boy to the membership. Its a hard core, no frills gym.

if it was just 200 bucks i would just leave the membership and use the gym once in a while in the winter or something since its so close to my house. but its expensive thats why im being such a big baby!

no a/c? big deal, just tell them to reduce the membership cost or prorate a month or some sht! i hate my gym half the time cause its too fcking cold...

I would quit if the gym had no AC. Look at your contract to see if there is a written no-refund policy. If not, dispute the charge with AMEX. Also, gyms must refund membership in NY if you have a medical reason. Maybe your doc can give you a note about your asthma.

I changed gyms last year because of lack of ventilation, and I let the owner know about it. I need fresh oxygen to workout, not stale humid gym air.

It doesn't bother me, more heat more sweat.

Sweat = Motivation = Jacked

Plus working out on Pendleton was a BITCH, so hot.. Same with Ft. Lee Virgina. So humid you sweat in the Shower... not to mention the gym. Just bring alot of water and tear that **** up.

Stay moto

thanks for the serious response. It's easy for everyone to say just man up if they don't have to work out in there.

we used to jump rope in steam showers while wearing sweats in the middle of summer back in HS for wrestling....nothing has ever beaten that for the most intence heat I have felt.

NYC gyms are expensive.

Crazy expensive. $175/month for mine. But I like it, it offers so much, and I feel like I'm at a spa when I shower...wait...I am lol. Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, has the works. Thinking about joining a local Brooklyn gym in my neighbourhood for the convenience though.

I get a teacher discount 325 per year, and the ac is only on when the old folks come in. Part of the idea of lifting, and lifting hard is that the elements (at least to me) should make it a struggle. Hell, I hate to admit it, but the hotter the better, and the more rust on the weights, the more at home it is.

The only time no-ac may bother me is during squats. Any other time I'm fine.

175/month. That is F*cking insane.

Yeah it's an Equinox gold membership. I can workout in any Equinox club in NYC. Invalid Link Removed

Pluses: working out in Soho/Union Sqr/Brooklyn Heights (or Wall Street when going to work), spotting celebs, squat rack/power rack usually always free, tons of eye candy, super clean and always fresh

But yeah it's a lil pricey..and requires a train to get to any location for me..there's a club around the corner that costs $30/month I'm thinking of joining cause I value my time more than having a gym that is essentially a spa

I found a 24 hour gym about 10 minutes away for $30....175 a month, I wish I had your job..... regardless of stress lol!

Get into a senior position in IT for a financial company. It's not too exciting, but it's not that bad, not always stressful..except having to always worry about the company collapsing maybe.

I've been looking into a 24 hr club here too. Would be nice to have a club that caters to an unknown schedule.
