What Now?

BUMPTOME

New member
I've been lurking here for a while now its time for a first post. I'm relatively new to the whole bodybuilding thing, but not to proper nutrition and exercise, etc.. I've been getting good gains on my own using a 5x5 variation and the following sups:

Cellmass
NOexplode
Cytogainer

What would you recommend I add to my supplement regimen? I'm not interested in prohormones. Was thinking about Neovar and a natural testosterone booster. While it may seem blasphemous to some, I'm not worried about massive strength, just size and tone. Any recomendations would be greatly appreciated.
All of the choices are enough to drive a neophyte such as myself up a wall.

You're right, the number of choices is astounding. There's no way you can possibly know which of these supplements are safe, have everything they say they have, and have as much of everything as they say they have. In fact, just about all of these companies would have trouble telling you where their resources come from.

Neovar is primarily a creatine product as is Cellmass. I personally would choose Neovar over Cellmass, but I don't see the need for both.

There are lots of test booster threads and logs here. Check 'em out and decide what you like.

As far as my recomendations..
Lots of clinical backing for Beta alanine, L luecine, Citrulline malate. A few of my favs.

what's your training experience, height, weight, age, etc...

Thanks for all the help so far- I should have elucidated a bit more: I ran track in high school and continued running LD until recently. I have been lifting though for a little less than three months with good gains liek i said. Im. 6'3, 194lbs (up from 189 since i started lifting). Just a wild guess, but probably 18% BF (+-) I would like to get to 220ish.

Here's my usual little writeup :) The ATW deal is something you should jump on and stock up on protein, ends today. Invalid Link Removed

Read http://anabolicminds.com/forum/training-forum/86088-neoborn-s-where.html
http://anabolicminds.com/forum/training-forum/99607-gaining-mass-nutshell.html .

Staples: Whey Invalid Link Removed , Creatine (Invalid Link Removed works , and is $13/kg), Invalid Link Removed (10/day of the 180/120 EPA/DHA is a good starting point), Good Multi (I like Invalid Link Removed ), ZMA ( Invalid Link Removed) . To put on mass you needs to expend more cals; a great source of fats that I personally swear by are Invalid Link Removed, boosts thyroid, metabolism, positively linked with test levels, and I find it gives me more energy. I like 1 Tbsp pre-bed, and elsewhere as needed. You might want to to take some casein pre-bed, either cottage cheese or something like Invalid Link Removed.

Awsome- thanks Steve. Ive read and reread the "Gaining mass in a nutshell (a big nutshell)" write up- sweet article it is. (btw- suncloud should be worshiping you for as often as you recomend his article- ive seen you cite it over and over and for good reason) I guess as far as the creatine thing goes- i hear the monohydrate makes one bloated. what does this mean- "bloated" are we talking stuffed cabbage bloated or like the muscle cells are just full? And im going to check out the nutraplanet thing you recomended- looks like good deal

Ok 5 newbie pounds in 3 months with no supplements at all would still not be very good. What your lacking is knowledge. Most newbs can gain at least triple that with the right diet and exercise. I am not running you down.. I mean how the hek are you going to know if nobody tells you. We can help.. lets hear about your diet and exercise. There is lots of guys who can chime in with advice.

Just to give you an idea.. I have had newbs gain over 20 lbs in there first 3 months, nothing but protein powder. I had one ecto gain close to 20 lbs in less than 3 months and he looked even leaner than when he started. It's not magic it's just good diet and good routine.

Dream- i appreciate the honest criticism thats what im here for- diet can totally be improved- i eat pretty much everything (save for fast food), two cytogainer shakes (half portions) on training days and one on off days- i go thrice a week to the gym. I know i can do better, but im not doing this to be in a contest or anything, just to look better. I also dont want to gain super fast because i dont knwo if ill be able to maintain the new weight. Ive been pretty skinny my whole life and im afraid it woudl be a shock to be huge (comparatively) all of a sudden.

Take advantage of the noob gains, it's a unique opportunity. As long as you eat clean and exercise right it will all be good weight. Yes it will be hard to maintain but the longer you keep it the better your change of not losing it. Once you decide to live a certain lifestyle you have to keep it up or you will lose the benefits. Bodybuilding is not a past time, to do well you have to make it a way of life. When diet and exercise are in line then supplements can come. Supplementing without the proper lifestyle is just a waste of money.

The reason that it has to be a lifestyle is to get anywhere it takes a long time of very disciplined living. When you have a chance to pack on mass quickly and naturally it's a waste not to take it.

Since you've only been lifting weights for 3 months I would recommend using ONLY the basic staples (i.e. creatine, multivitamin, good fats, protein powder, and BCAA's - which you seem to have covered, except multivitmain and good fats) until you have some more experience. As DreamWeaver said, being new to weights you will make gains fairly quickly. You also need to make sure that you are changing (and it doesn't need to be a drastic overhaul, just changing something like exercise, sets, reps, or recovery time, etc. will do it) your training programme every 4-6 weeks, so that your body doesn't get used to doing the same thing and adapt and stop getting results.

And since you are more concerned with 'size and tone', then your DIET is VERY IMPORTANT. And I would make sure that you know which ONE you want to achieve FIRST: size OR tone, since at 18% BF you may have size, but for a male that is far from 'toned' (i.e. where you can SEE the muscle).

With the right diet and training regime targeted at muscle mass gains then you can successfully get the results you want on the basics.

And bodybuilding IS mostly about the RIGHT nutrition (as it is about building a better physique, which is, IMO at LEAST 80% what (and when and how) you eat).

NeoVar would be, IMO, superior to Cellmass, as it acts as a nutrient repartitioner as well as an insulin mimic (great attributes for muscle mass gains) and is NOT just a creatine product; and as mentioned by redemption79 you DON'T need two creatine products.

As for the testosterone booster, there are quite a few out there though, and many logs available on them (I suggest you read through a few to get an idea of results). Some examples:
* IGF-2
* Drive
* Activate Xtreme
* Divanex/Divanol
* Blue Up
* PowerFULL
