BIGGER, FASTER, STRONGER: Snag's Recipe for a [NATURAL] Recomp, Competition Style!

I'm dropping a bombshell here guys: considering the first show of the year, liking it more & more as it rolls thru my mind..

2009 NPC Southern Indiana Bodybuilding & Figure Championships in Evansville, IN. March 28th. National qualifier..

Intrigues the hell outta me. Now I know I won't sleep tonight.. :aargh:

That is pretty much what I have been doing. My meals are fine. I was looking to maybe get something extra from some added nutrients aroung the w/o. Just trying to break this plateau I seem to be at.

Can you time this out to peak for that?

Sure can.. would need to make some adjustments tho.. and my buddy at GNC is on vacation the week of the show, so I'd have to cover the 10-3 shift for him every day M-F, but I could make this work. I was moving things along a tad too quickly here anyway, so slowing my roll wouldn't be an issue..
:hmmm: hmmmmm.. :ponder:
gonna chew on this one.

Hey Snag, does the time really matter for eating after the post-workout aminos? I mean yes wait a while still, but today I got to thinking, after I workout I'm really pumped, then I drink the amino shake and get more pumped, then the pump usually dies off around the 20-25 min mark so I was thinking that when the pump goes away that should be the time to eat right? Does that make sense?

20 minutes should be fine. I don't feel the 'pump' issue should be the 'tell'.. but it's cool you are so in tune with your body and can feel your supps.
I base the 30min mark on personal preference - it's the timing I am looking for for optimal amino utilization. But, I also think 20-30 minutes is fine.. go for it.

Alright thanks, just wanted to make sure it wouldn't be interupting the aminos.

Ahaa, can't believe I got the itch again. My wife doesn't look overly enthused about it .. the timing is not perfect. Dunno, might look for something closer. I just got this invite in the mail, it grabbed me...

Ah come on.. I wish I had the chance to enter a competition sometime soon.. I'm really wanting to give it a go.

I say go for it! Just pop in your Rocky Soundtrack, and "Go for it, Snag - there's no easy way out!"

Snag how do you measure your WMS? Purple wrath is amazing , no? also do you think 7gr leucine pre and post is sufficient?
Umm.. are you referring to my ratio of leucine to isoleucine/valine?
I don't understand your question. Are you noting the total of BCAA consumption?
Yes, I like PurpleWraath.

Don't let the chance go wasted Snag, in life we don't regret as much things we've done as we regret those we haven't done. You work so hard for this so
DRAGON SAYS: GO FOR IT !!! :D

Go for it brutha!! You've got 100% of my support!
Why waste those God-given genetics and talents?
If I had a physique like yours, I'd enter that contest in a heartbeat!!!

So very, very true.

D-Fly! Dig the Dragon.. Thanks to both TG and you. The competing thing, it's a bit different in my case - I've already done this. Competing is not why I do what I do..
But, I may do something for sure. Again, I appreciate the encouragement!

Do whatever makes you :D Snag !

I say if u feel like u can give 100% for the contest then why the heck not. You are recomping and trying to lean up so why not put something substatial at the end as a lofty and helpful goal?

by the way everything lookin good and the calf sounds like immense pain when it happened...i hope that never happens to me

For sure Bolster - you don't want any part of that business! Not cool..

And Lungz, missed ya back there, hahaa nice reference.. :D

Day #27 Quads/Hams/Calves

Another killer day, focused and intense thruout. Had some rage going on from miscellaneous side issues, so of course there was fuel for the fire.. :firedevil:

Warmup/pre-fatigued with some leg extensions (6 sets), explosive regular stance parallel squats (6 sets, lighter weight), pyramid down then back up on leg curls (6x20/15/12/12/15/20), standing calf raises, seated calf raises, abs at the end. Everything was a minute rest today, except abs (45sec).

Endurance is truly thru the roof these days, I mean I feel like a freakin' locomotive in training, a machine. Nothing gets in my way..

Carb day, running @350g intake thruout the day. Pslin-aided 75g portion following FT.. ahhhhh, I feel swole! :D

I can definitely relate brougham!!! I've got some personal problems right now that are stoking some raging infernos inside me!!!
I took it out on the weights also. Poor devils!! :saeek: :sgrin:

Love to see negatives turned into positives boys....keep that going and you will feast at the table you set!!

Yes, I like PurpleWraath.
WMS = waxy maise starch, i wanted to know how you may measure it, ive been using my PW 12 gr scoop but its not really functional for the desired intake.
Nevermind.

Yeah I'm aware of what 'WMS' is; I didn't answer that because I was drawn to your comment on leucine. Still don't understand that one..
As for measuring: yeah man, I've got all kinds of different scoops. 60cc, 70cc, 90cc..
If you are going to use a different scoop than what is provided in the jug (assuming that's how you get your WMS), then you just gotta know what scoop equates out to what serving size.
I don't get that technical. If I want 30g, then I use the scoop provided that comes with the product, that specifies '30g dosage'. If I want 15g, I'll use a 1/2 scoop. 45g, I'll use a scoop & 1/2.. But okay, I'll nevermind bro..

If you are looking at NPC events, this'll get you pointed in the right direction..

Ok thanks for the link.
Oh and got a question.. how do you get registered?
I found a site where you print it out and stuff but when I clicked on it the page was blank.

When I'm not cutting or looking to stay lean (I guess you could call this a 'bulk' mode), it changes majorly. I drop BCAA's altogether, go back to a more standard approach, with postworkout nutrition being just foods/WMS. I do no intra drinks.
IMO, just like anything else BCAA's should be cycled. 'Bulk' periods provide the optimal time to do so, as your dietary intake is above maintenence anyway, and as long as you're consuming quality foods you should be fine.. If I use anything with foods, it's Pslin/AP to power the nutrients (altho I'll be coming off everything following this little foray).
Down time from supps is important to me.

Thought this was Waxy maise starch. :burnout:

One of my favorite PWO meals in grow-time is 30g WMS, large banana, 1 cup oats, and 2 scoops protein. This is consumed fairly soon after training, with no BCAA support. Love using Pslin with it tho.. This also works well for preworkout.
Different protocol than I'm currently using; altho, after FT, I will have something similar to this, following the 30-minute window of BCAA/EAA absorption.

Just had a big ol' bowl of homemade chili, lots of kidney beans, 96% lean beef, banana/jalepeno peppers, Red Gold tomato juice.. mmmmm, I love carb days.

Chili is a fav of mine. Has to have some fire in it...hotter the better!!

You like them hot foods out there in the desert eh?
I got a friend who lives out there in Surprise. What a name for a town.. she talks about looking out her office window and seeing hot air balloons floating by.. sounds cool (well that's an oxymoron I guess, you know what I mean tho..)

Funny thing, I had Chili 2x today. For lunch and during my night class (And all my friends were commenting how hungry my food was making them; it was still piping for for a PWO meal :) )

Azmid how do you make yours hot; this time I added too much red chili flakes and it was fiery! XLean Ground Sirloin on on short-dated clearance yesterday, so I decided to make some chili :D

Brown the meat with red chili powder, lots of jalepenos in the sauce, and eat it with green tabasco on it. I have to be sweating or I'm not happy.

How often are you doing carb-days, Snag? I thought I remember you saying every 5th day or something like that...I've been doing every Wed/Sun. Do you think that's too heavy? I take in about an additional 250-300g carbohydrates, and drop the fat a bit.

Wed/Sun carb-up is a very common format, that's fine bro. Looks great.
That's actually about what I'm doing right now, only instead of set days I'll do every 3 days, and if I feel I can roll another day w/o sacrificing muscle fullness I'll push it to the 4th day..

Speaking of muscle fullness.. O.M.G.! I was freakin' ginormously full this morning! :D
It never ceases to amaze me what dropping in a spiked-carb day can do for not only blowing the muscles back up, but for metabolism as well. Amazing..
Snapped couple pics of myself after the workout, wife was at her gym today so had to do myself, but the site apparently was having issues before I left for my GNC gig so I'll have to post it later. Thought I looked pretty decent.. alpha-male thing going on y'know. ;)

Day #28 Back/Triceps/Biceps

I know you guys are getting tired of hearing this, but.. SMOKED it today! I am in a HELLA zone right now, beating my chest & feeling like King Kong!! :D
Every single workout continues to rise above the one prior, it's shocking (good shocking!)..

BB bent rows, cable D-grip front pulldowns, straight-bar seated pulley rows, BW tri-focused dips, straight-bar tri pushdowns, reverse-grip tri pressdowns, preacher cable curls (saw Tommy Jeffers talking about enjoying these this morning, haven't done 'em in awhile so I figured wth - thx Tommy! ;)), standing EZ bar curls, hammer-grip DB curls (DB's pressed together in hammer-position thruout).

WOW. Pump was massive (painful but loving it) thruout; back was swole all to Hades. Dig it!

After the high-carb day yesterday, back to 180g consumption today (:()..
Breakfast & post w/o meal were identical, both fronted by AP:
1 large grapefruit, 1/2 cup Scottish oat bran, 1 scoop MonsterMilk, 3 egg whites.

EDIT: BTW - my legs are freakin' SORE from yesterday! :fing02:
:woohoo:

Hey Snag, can you post a recipe for some lean chilli? I'll be using lean ground turkey, because that 97% fat free ground beef tastes like hell to me. I'm looking to cook my next bulk batch of food. I like the way chilli powder and japalenos sound.

Well, no T-Bol log for everyone...Thermolife doesn't advertise here (I didn't even realize that) so it was deleted. Oh well, I'll come back and let you guys know my experience with it.
