Man murders girl friend's computer

As an IT Admin, I am looking forward to windows 7. I hope it is low over head as they say, Vista sure isn't.
 
These types of stories help reassure my decision to load XP on this new rig instead of vista.
 
Yeah I know what you mean. I'm reading up on this windows 7 now...I've been out of the loop for a long time.
 
That touch screen stuff looks cool, but they never said if you had to have some special type of monitor or so. I mean touch screen technology is kool, but I wonder if you have buy some adittional hardware to experience that. I doubt that someone with a CRT might be able to do that, would be kool though.

I have a personal vendetta against touch screens. For the everyday PC owner they are nothing more than a novelty that should wear off within the first week of ownership. I can understand the use in limited business applications. I'd rather have something that can run cooler and faster for less money. :)
 
I have yet to have a problem with vista as IT support, a hardcore gamer, and an everyday user.

I think Touch technology is best applied in mobile devices. As you said, the panels are cost inefficient, and most of the touch-screen PCs come with lower processing capabilities than comparably priced models. I would only use a touch/touch-tablet PC as a media interface in a main living room, wired through HDMI to a nice T.V.,

I had a Mini-DVI-to-HDMI-Converter running my 2.4ghz iMac [4GB RAM, ATI 9800 PRO {Mac Unit - it's so-so}] through my Samsung LN40A650 [http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/...isions&subtype=lcdtv&model_cd=LN40A650A1FXZA] but found it sort of cumbersome! I also had a bit of trouble getting my Mac to scale properly. I was thinking of buying a laptop [Sony Vaio] to complete the same task, though; less hassle and less money to do so as well.

I use a 16x9 resolution. (1360x768). If it was 1080p then it would be 1920x1200. I use an dvi to mini hdmi converter as well and im not having any trouble with it at all. I have been using it for a year now.

iMacs can output in 1920x1200 but the native resolution is 1650x1000. This being said, they can scale to 1900x1200, but this causes the scaling issues I was speaking about earlier. Rather than limit the resolution to 720p, I have just decided to purchase a different computer.

I use an dvi to mini hdmi converter as well and im not having any trouble with it at all. I have been using it for a year now.

Ahhh I am not experienced in the Mac world at all. What are you looking at upgrading to?

Not off the top of my head. What processor and video card model? I'll look into it after my class and let you know what I think. What are you doing to be doing on it? Gaming/word Processing/ AM/etc...

Intel Core Duo, and the NVIDIA is GeForce 9600M w/ 512MB dedicated RAM. I will be using it primarily for gaming and multimedia. The A650 [my T.V.,] has some spectacular streaming capabilities w/ RSS and so on. Essentially, I want the notebook to act as a media interface center [hence the need for 1080p, quick card and so forth].

It looks solid for a notebook. Why not look into a desktop if you want it to interface with your tv unless you need to travel with it.

That is just it, though. My job is internet-based, so I want an additional notebook to keep with me [I will be keeping my Mac].

ahh ok. Well if you are looking into doing some intense gaming on it, I would look into a company called iBuypower. They have some sweet customizable laptops.

The only other thing to consider is if the laptop has dvi output to go into your tv. You could go from vga to dvi to hdmi but there would be some quality lost through the series.
 
If you want a gaming laptop, look into Alienware. They make laptops and desktop specifically for gaming. Of course you can do the other basic stuff as well. A client of mine was looking for something for her son to game with, and I recommended the Area 51 m17. Then I went to her house and set up the network for online gaming.

Im gonna have to disagree here solely on the premise of pricing. Alienware is a bit pricey. Ibuypower is essentially the same thing without the flashy alien head on the laptop. Either is a good brand to go with and I would recommend both but I think that Ibuypower may some better deals.
The Dell XPS is also a solid gaming machine but still up with the price.

Does ANYONE HONESTLY use Windows XP support? What, do people actually call some Microsoft # and endure the torturous patch to a techie?

If you're an IT dood(ette), then sure, you'd prob. use Win support. But the layperson.....doubtful.

BTW, I use Win XP 64.....which is not supported at all...I never have issues! ;)

Why do you use x64?
Google has replaced Windows Support by far
