i take ZERO!
fish oils inhibit protein synthesis. there was a big article in the march issue of fitness rx.
it is good for dieting,
I couldn't manage 0. I noticed when I cut out Omega-3's during my X-Factor cycle completely I was lacking energy, and a decrease in mood and my general sense of well-being that returned as soon as I started taking my Omega-3's again.
I usually take 10-15 NP Fish Oil Caps/day.

I take upwards of 15-25g a day depending on my meals. If I'm eating fish normally I won't take any that meal.

Anybody else had problems with high fish oil doses and bruises not healing?

Too much fish oil decrease blood clotting.

I wonder why anyone would mega dose fish oil.

Animal Omega for me.
from the label it's 4g of O-3 fish oil(s)
and 2.5g of O-6 oils:

one per day, unless i am feeling run down, then i'll hit and extra pack that day
(i do the same thing with Animal Pak)

Animal Omega, one pack a day. I know Ox runs two packs.
If anyone is interested, I'd be willing to part with 1-2 cans...
U Rep, i'll take one of those cans off your hands if you have too many laying around taking up space :stick: ;)

Same here. A pack of Animal Omega a day... I got extra cans? They're all mine.

wow didnt know people took soo much of it, I thought I had read somewhere that it wasnt recommended that one take soo much supplements of fish oil, and to take it naturally (i know natural is always better) but i started taking about 3g a day since it was recommended w/ my havoc

I've got the NP bulk fish oils but i haven't started using them yet. 2 caps = EPA 360mg and DHA 240mg so 10 caps = 3g? that right or not enough

The effectiveness and efficiency of fish supplements comes down to the amount of bioactive ingredient per serving. The active ingredients are the bioactive omega-3s called EPA and DHA.

When determining the efficiency of the supplement, read the label carefully to determine exactly how much EPA and DHA are contained in each capsule. The amount of "fish oil" is irrelevant. It's the dose of EPA and DHA you're looking for.

What you will find is that most products deliver a pitiful dose of these bioactive omega-3s per serving.

To protect your health and optimize recovery, I recommend you find the highest potency EPA-DHA supplement you can get your hands on. That is, chose the produce that provides the highest amount of EPA-DHA per serving.

Unlike most "fish oil" supplements, just one serving of what I take provides a whopping 1000 milligrams a day of bioactive omega-3s.

This will go a long way to covering your essential fat intake requirements.

I've read that fish oil has more active ingredients than just EPA/DHA.

Yes Omega 6. Pro inflammatory. The one I use goes threw a purification processes so I get the OTHER's out and just epa and dha.

Ok, guru's........

Is there validity to this comment? Am i inhibiting gains at 4-6 grams a day?

I am no guru, but here's my two cents:

Not inhibiting gains: Charles Polquin (some trainer) puts his trainees on 20g (I can't remember the exact number, but it sure is high) a day, and claims this accelerates muscle gains (and fat loss).

It may inhibit gains: I think I read somewhere that some 'inflammation' in the muscles is necessary to signal to the body that the muscles are damaged (when you work out, your create micro-tears in your muscles), and to 'repair' (grow) them.

But Omega 3s are 'anti-inflammatory' (which is how they can be beneficial and protect the heart), so some feel that too much Omega 3s can inhibit gains.

Personally, I think that your 4-6grams is not going to promote growth or inhibit gains. :)

I take 8g a day, mostly for the mood benefits. :)

I just know that it lowers my BP when I am taking supps that raise it..........stims, preworkout, etc......Also my knees and joints feel better, and my skin is not as dry......

I think I found my dosage sweet spot, i still get DOMS. I assure you.

So i'm dosing NP's fish oil at about 20 caps a day. usually 10 in the morning and 10 at night. Is that too much at once? should i maybe spread it out a bit more? or does it not matter?

ta

i mega-dose every once in a while for a couple weeks at a time. I feel great when I do it, it's usually up around 30 gr a day. Doesn't seem to inhibit gains at all. I try to take five gr or so with each meal, but I'd go with it being better to get it, even in two larger doses, than not getting it at all. Don't take my word on it, though.
