Jas's Strongman Training log

Oh OK, I don't smile, it's the Russian killer in me, except that pic of Mouth forced a little smirk on my face.

That's fvcked up, safe to say the guy died?

Most definitely. His skull was literally splattered.

The most embarrassing and tragic part, is the person whom cheap-shotted him had no business doing so, or need. This guy has been a Thai Boxer since I've known him and doesn't need to cheap-shot anybody. Fvcking idiot has a 2-year old and now he'll be facing Murder II most likely.

:goodpost:

I do breath a little heavy after walking up stairs sometimes.

Mullet, you take more pics of yourself flexing than the SSE dude.

Oh I don't know about quite that much. I use them for avatars as well, I don't create threads about them. Why don't you take a pic in the same pose?

Ehh, not really interested. My bi's don't have a good shape to them since I haven't trained them in the last year. I'll give it Mullet. And there's no way I'll do a leg contest with you....

Wed.

Light snatches to work on form. An Oly lifter that was coaching everyone completely changed my form. Slowing the start way down. I bang my knees about 10 times because I was starting so fast.

Some blob loading

Bicep curls - I may start doing some slow reps of these every week to strengthen the tendons since biceo tears are common in the sport.

Thurs.

BW - 217.1

Bench
315-3
335-3
275-8 half reps chest to halfway up + 5 full reps

dips-30

Some leg extensions to strengthen the knees

25 pound plate flip and catch - 30 per hand

My back is okay. Apparently the knots in my back were throwing off the motion of my scapula along my ribcage causing some popping. No biggie.

How did you figure that stuff out? Nice bench by the way. Does this mean that you're gonna compete in the PL contest?

I went to sportwell and a PT guy examined range of motion and things like that.

I'm debating now about the WABDL meet. There's a May strongman contest that looks interesting and it has a max deadlift event in it. I may just focus on that instead.

Or maybe you'll find your way to an oly tournament...?

Only if there's a knee bashing event.... It would be fun. I think my interest order is strongman, Oly, then PLing.

I'd rather train and try to peak for the May DL event than peak twice in a short period of time as far as the PLing goes. I was more interested in the PLing as motivation to get my DL up.

Kevin is competing in the collegiate nationals for Oly lifting. He said that he was hitting 245 easily on snatch and can go around 315-325 on CnJ for the qualifiers this weekend.

You should sign up and do your usual-style snatch and CnJ. I wanna see the judges' faces when you get that 240 over your head.

I know, that would be great. I think their reaction would follow this pattern:
:banned: ...... or maybe :box:

Strongman Sunday :head:

800# tire flips - 12

8'' Log press
275-0 (didn't stabilize weight)
275-1

I was a little off on the log since it's been 5 weeks at least.

245 keg run - 160 ft course

atlas stones-
run 1 - 230, 265, 290, miss 330
run 2 - 330 - failed

2'' axle clean and press-
225-1
245-0
245-1

This really killed my wrists. I tried switching to a suicide grip (not wrapping thumbs around bar) and it relieved some of the pressure for the press, but my shoulders-way-back-at-the-top style may be a bad combo with the suicide grip. It didn't feel stable at the top.

Awesome workout. Do you have wrist wraps?

Dude your log is fun as hell to follow. Looked back and saw how far your lifts have progressed. You have made some incredible progress.

Good example of what dedication will get you. Nice work.

Thanks a lot, man. Yeah, the strongman training is really the highlight of my week. I just love competing, and there is a good group of guys that push each other.

Awesome workout. Do you have wrist wraps?

I was using them, but the width of the axle was really stretching my hand at the thumb in a weird way and it seemed to bother my wrists as well.

Mullet, Poly still has his midget gf for coverup of his obvious homosexuality. Oh well, Alex is more my style. I like the scruffy types with one incredibly atrophied leg who watch movies like "Failure to Launch".

Which completely eliminates your buddies here.

I assume this was a joke that's not coming off right, but sure people here push me and put up impressive numbers as well. But I don't think there's anything like heads up competition in the moment to really pressure you into performing well.

If this is a jab at some people, then I don't really agree. The environment doesn't have to be that of a big group hug. You shouldn't always bite your tongue to avoid some level of confrontation. I always appreciate criticism and some kidding around. If I'm not hitting depth in a squat video, please call me on it. If you think my form on cleans is horrid (it is) or that I'm doing a diesel weasel like hitch on DL, make fun of it.

Tuesday

BW - 216.6 - I give up

Oly Style ATG squats (narrow stance + highbar position)
315 - 3
345 - 3 (added wraps because of knee hurting)
375 - 2
405 - 1

GHRs - 23, 12

leg extensions

bomb time (bomb = shotput you hang weight from to strengthen grip)-
traditional grip max pickup attempts
left-78,98,108 fail
right-78,98,108,118 fail

max pickup with palm centered on top of the sphere
left-25,35,45 fail
right-25,35,45 fail

Wed.

BW - 218.4

standing military
205-3
215-2
225-1
185-7

-just didn't have it today. I kept leave the bar out in front of my head instead of getting my shoulders back quick like usual.

dips-30

hammer curls done really slowly
35-10

Friday

BW-219.5 :head:

DL
515-1

-ridiculously slow off the floor. Probably a 5-6 s pull. The heavy squats seemed to help with the power off the floor, but being sick and resting for the contest seemed to screwed up my training and I lost my mojo.

Rack squats right above the belly button, close stance
495-2
545-1
585-0
565-1

Pullups
wide -18
narrow with slow controlled movement - 7

So you weigh more, but can lift less, sweet:twisted: I'm down with the biceps pre-hab.

Haha, yeah sweet huh. I'm not too worried about it. It will come back and I think that I'm starting will my hips too low. This is suboptimal for me, although not for most.

Monday

CnJ with 2'' thick axle:
229-1
244-1
254-1
264-1
274-fail on clean
274-fail on clean

reps in 60s at 224 with axle:
3 in <30, then weights fell off and I got lazy/tired

double overhand DL with 2'' axle:
298-1
348-1
368-0 rooled out of hand about 2'' off ground
358-1 lost it right after lock out.

farmer's walk with 170 per hand:
220 ft with 3 turns alonng the way

20ft rope climb - ~14s

Probably. I think I could go faster (<10 s) if my grip wasn't already fried. Also, the U's women's gymnastics was practicing in that room so I was distracted as hell.

Tuesday

BW-218.4

Squats - belt + wraps
455-4
495-1, fail on 2nd - went about 2'' below parallel on that rep

Core work - hypers + abs

Squats felt really good today. No pain whatsoever. Maybe it was the 4 RPM + 2 Drive + 600 mg ibuprofin preworkout. I would have liked to have played around more at heavier weights, but time was limited tonight. I was squatting in front of a mirror which seems to help a lot too. The RPM/Drive seems to jack up my BP a lot as I felt light headed after some things.

:bb: If you looked like Ito, you'd want to watch yourself too. The look on my face while I watch myself can be seen in my avatar. Please smack me immediately.

I guess I will never squat in front of the mirror again and start being a real man and using the manta ray.

The knee wraps definitely add to your squat. My knees tend to hurt without them when I start getting around 365 so I add them then. I wrap really lightly at first to just mainly add warmth and provide moderate support. By 455, I wrapped them pretty tight and they do help at the bottom. I figure this is good since my next contest has a max DL. The bottom of a squat probably doesn't help your DL that much, but the second half should simulate the push off the floor to some extent. So heavier is better. At least, that's my logic, and it has seemed to work as my squat and DL max went up together in Jan/Feb.

Your squat looks like a bit more of a quad squat than mine, maybe that's why your knees hurt. I was wearing some knee sleaves before my injury, but I don't think they did much, but I felt cool wearing them. I also like to let out some loud Ric Flair's after each set. Yeah, you put like 45#'s on your deadlift doing what you were doing, stick with it. You might be able to pull 6 plates at the meet.

Yeah, I think I keep my knees out better with a mirror. My squats looked sh!tty the contest IMO. Truthfully, I would put my legs wider, but the racks are too narrow for this. I might forgo the PLing meet and just do a May 31st Strongman contest with a max DL. This will allow me to do a ridiculous hitch for you all to see. :head: I'll post the events soon.

I was just watching those squats from the last contest. Your descent is super fast. What's it like when you try to go slow? Looking forward to the hitch vid.

Thurs.

Standing military-
205-4
speed sets - 145x2x2x2

incline with closer grip like standing military-
275-5
paused at bottom sets for max speed
225-2
245-2
265-2
285-3

Blob pickups with head of dbell
left - 50, 55 failed about 5 times
right - 50 failed like 10 times

I'm slow off my chest on standing military where this speed has always been my big advantage. Trying to get it back. My tri's were still a little sore from Monday which may have effected things too.

Are you still taking beta-alenine? I've heard really good things about it so I got myself a tub and plan on trying it out for 2 months or so.

Friday

DL-
525-1
535-0

DL to the lowest peg of rack then pull into peg for a while
135-5 seconds
225-5s
315-5s
405-3s

Pause squats
225-5

box squats-pause on box
225-10
225-10

~20-25 ft Rope climb - 13.89 s

My deads are still horribly slow off the floor. I can't believe how fast my numbers fell. The pulls into the pegs are supposed to help remedy the speed off the floor according to a PLer I know. They're a little weird for sure.
