Hey guys I finally got enough money to get me some protein shakes agian. The cost are crazy these days. Anyway, It seems like I have some what of an intolerance to lactose in protein. Ive tried things like ON whey and Muscle Milk without any success. Anyway Im looking for these specific types of protien, considering there are tons out there, Id like some recommendations before jumping into something that will cost me 30 bucks (college students are dirt poor)

Im looking for:

A tasty protein shake, can be wacky flavors but extremely tasty. (Heard wonders about Nectar, a recommendation to a flavor or two would be nice)

A protein mix for post workout use(prefer vanilla due to the reason that it is easy to mix with my supplements)

A midnight caesin protein.

If anyone maybe some what lactose intolerate in certian whey's and has had success with a certian brand let me know.

This sounds stupid that Im asking "what protien" but I have found that lots of protiens will not do for me. It makes me break out far worse than that of any acne related sides on steroids for you guys.

So far Ive only had success with Isopure. Some help would be awesome. Thanks agian.

Hey cellar. I just got a 4lbers of ON's Cassein Chocolate Supreme and I have to say it is amazing with water prebed. It turns nice and thick, and I had no trouble dissolving it. I just went through 3 pounds of Universal's Milk Egg Protein which had nothing on ON in terms of taste.

For Vanilla, I find that PVL Whey Gourmet is one of the better Vanillas, followed by Allmax's Vanilla. As long as you don't order ON Vanilla , it killed me lol.

Ergopharm has some pretty awesome tasting protein (GF Pro Orange Dreamsicle) but I think there is some production changes going on there. I know exactly what your budget is like, it's my situation too. Hope that helps, and maybe some others will chip in.

Have you looked into Gemma P. Isolate. I am considering getting some myself but i have a good amount of whey laying around so i can't justify it yet. Seems like a lot of people are doing custom mixes of that and wpi and are liking the taste plus the lower content of milk protien might help with your intolerance.

Thanks steve,

here's my proposed plan. Since whey is expensive (for me at least) consumption of it on a daily basis meal wise is impractical.
I was going to do this.

Since whey protien is only needed for post work out I figured why not have that as my post workout meal. That would save a bunch of money.

Second consuming things like egg protein although may not be the best tasting but certianly it will save a bunch of money. 2lb of egg protien = 1/2 cost of whey. Thats a lot of money your saving. There's just a difference in digestion which a quick digesting protein is not called for because it's not PWO nutrition.

I think if people went on this type of approach it would save a ton on they ammount of cash they spent on protien.

With that said, anyone have suggestions for egg protien that's tasty as hell!? Thanks!

I recently finished a Nectar Apple Ecstasy Shake. Very much like a Jolly Rancher and rather expensive for just two pounds compared to the extreme chocolate flavor from ON. After three years of using ON 's protein exclusively I needed something different. Nectar is it!

I loved the extreme chocolate flavor from ON but on two seperate occasions I broke out in matter of days. day 1 nothing, day 2, increased acne. By the end of the week I had to get off it or else Id be zitzilla. Sucks for me.

whoah

you think egg protein is cheaper then whey? NO WHEY!

1) I used to love Nectar but no longer buy it for reasons we all know of, but i love Ergopharm's I-Pro as a substitute.

2) I dont typically drink vanilla shakes but Optimum Gold and Cytosport's Complete whey are two that i tried because my brother enjoys vanilla shakes. Good price and good companies.

3) No doubt, Ultra Peptide2 or ProPeptide before bed. Top quality, top products.

Ive never heard of the reason on why to buy nectar. Just curious what they are. :run:

How the heck do you figure egg costs less than whey??? I certainly can't find any egg pre-packaged for under $10 a pound, more like $12-14 per pound. Personally I have been using ATW cinnamon bun for $6 a pound or you can get something a bit better like True protein isolate with a premium falvor system for around $10 a pound. With all that said you get around 450 grams of protein for $10 max, try to find any food with that value...

I believe in real foods as well but protein powders are actually a way to SAVE money but people don't think of them that way because you have to spend in one lump sum rather than over time.

wait sorry bout that, I was looking at nutraplanet prices and mistakened soy for egg. They were stacked on top of each other. Egg is more expensive than whey sorry bout that.

Gemma (straight) isn't too bad. It's got a weird aftertaste to it, but it's definitely tolerable.

dsade said Nutra may be getting in unflavored Gemma for sale.

no recommendations cause i use/love ON whey, but i got the runs from the Nectar sample i got with my last order, i felt sick all day

Again, I know it's Syntrax...but Matrix is really a good price for the servings you get. It is suited to use pretty much anytime as it is a blend. Im pretty sensitive to dairy as well, small amounts are ok, but there is a threshold to how much my body can handle. Anyway, Matrix doesn't give me any problems. However, most proteins haven't given me problems since I started taking in smaller amounts at a time. Try taking a half scoop in less fluid, then another 30-45 mins later. Might help!

you have a very good point there. I ran ON whey with 2 scoops usually.

Syntrax is suing bb.com as well as some members for slander or libel, whichever one it is applies. basically someone started some rumors, syntrax rep asked them to retract they refused, bb.com refused to kill the thread....

I still buy nectar :)

ah. easy could you link me please. I love reading bout e fights sometimes

Ive put together a lot of research in terms of my protien. Seems like the protien I take now is WPI while before my reactions seem to go bad on WPC. Weird huh, If im not mistaken WPC is the cheaper/cheapest form of whey right? I know sometimes I feel a bit weird on protein bars that I buy in stores sometimes too, most likely WPC to bring down the production cost. Nectar, if it is all WPI I shouldnt have a problem. Gonna get some nectar, any recommended flavor guys? Ive got lemon tea, apple estacy and caribbean cooler in my shopping cart ready to go.

I've heard sooo much great stuff about pbchoc flavoured UP2.0.. Just picked up a tub, I hope to try it soon

They don't disclose the casein content in Matrix. I would not recommend it as a bed time protein for that purpose. Used throughout the day, possibly.

Ultra Peptide 2.0. Peanut Butter.

Personally I did not like the Apple Nectar sample I had, apple protein? WTF? I prefer a creamy protein.

I tried Nectar and was not pleased, strawberry/kiwi I believe (or some concoction like that). I am using Vitamin Shoppe's brand just for cost efficiency 5lbs 24.99

I would never comment in on such things. I read them, but I try to avoid adding fuel to the fire. It just amuses me that people band together

well its also retarded that supplement companies dont tell us exactly whats in their products if they want people to trust them and stuff... thats what pisses me off

im enjoying my tub of ON 100percent choc whey ! /flex time to get hyyuge

Love the nectar. It's potential lies in the taste. I drink it with most meals (even if only half a scoop)

Iced tea is my fav.

Strawberry kiwi tastes like red jello
and fuzzy navel is a nice peach flavor.

Hate on syntrax but they nailed this flavoring system better than anyone imo
