Work Legs for Big Upper Body?

OK....I'm confused. Browsing the forum (under pics), I read a thread where a member was told that he had to start working legs to make good gains in his upper body. I just added a leg routine to my workouts, but I didn't know this would help me with my chest. How does this work?:bruce3:

your body grows proportionally. if your leg muscles are not stimulated to grow, the rest of your muscles will hit a plateau early on.

it makes sense if you think about it...the body is a whole, yes its made up of many muscles, but they all work together as the body. the entire thing needs to grow. same thing with fat. you dont get fat JUST on your stomache....its goes everywhere, the stomach is just where its noticed the most

its your biggest muscles in your body. testosterone output from the testes is from muscle strain, so the bigger the strain on the bigger the muscle, the more testosterone your testes release.

here's a link for you that's a little more in depth : Invalid Link Removed

And GH.

Yeah mainly from your body growin in proportion to your bigger muscles.

releases growth hormone throughout the body to the muscles to make them grow so always always!!!! workout legs its a must!!! if you wanna grow train your legs!!
legs+gh=BIG BODY!!

i tended to wonder the same thing

The muscles grow in proportion argument doesn't make a lot of sense to me... if that were the case wouldn't your legs grow on their own if you only did upper body? Or in my case, I should have had a huge upper body to match my legs years ago when I was mountain biking for hours a day at full tilt... yet I still to this day think my legs are disproportionately large although other things are catching up.

Its kind of an indirect effect. Working the legs with heavy loads stimulates the release of the hormones used to stimulate protein synthesis. These hormones are released in the blood and are used by all muscles in the body. However, if you are not training the upper body don't count on seeing any dramatic growth. The bottom line, no matter how hard you work your legs you still have to work the upper body equally as hard to get growth.

like everyone else said you have to work your whole body to grow, the body doesent want to grow so make it grow, your body will not likely allow you to have a massive upper body and a smaller lower body, its like a 20 foot sky scraper the support beams at the bottom (lower body:legs) has to be strong enough to support the building its holding up (upper body). make sense? you can workout however you want now that i switched my routine up again working legs with arms great gains but have to have enough protein intake to also grow body wont grow unless it gets the right nutrients ya kno?

Squats and Deads are necessary for mass development. I have heard that the human body wants to stay symmetrical so you are better off training your entire body rather than just your upper body.

Squats and Dead Lifts are the best because those exercises work a majority of muscles in the body. All of the upper leg, abdominal, and lower back are used. If you really want to just train your upper body then do these exercises too because it will not take too much time to complete. I can do 4 sets 4 reps on both of these exercises in 40 minutes. The other sets and reps that I like for these two exercise are 3x8 and 5x5.
