Woman steals gas, gets shot

I bet this girl thinks twice next time before doing something like this

Sparks woman shot while siphoning gas

A woman was struck in the leg by a shotgun blast after she and two others were spotted early this morning siphoning gas from vehicles in the area of Freeport Boulevard in Sparks, police said.

The woman was identified as Sarina Ellis, 22, who was hit in the leg.

A man identified as Alden Noring was taken to Washoe County Jail and booked on suspicion of battery with a deadly weapon and shooting into a vehicle.

Police said Noring turned himself in to authorities after the incident, about 2:25 a.m.

Police said Ellis, along with Allen Dixon, 25, and Katrina Myrick-Davidson, 43, were siphoning gas when Noring awoke and went outside with a shotgun to confront them. Police said Noring fired at least twice.

Noring was involved in a similar shooting at 385 Freeport Blvd., in 1995, police said.

That's why I keep an unregistered handgun around. Something to put in their hand after my shotgun blast. I don't miss. :D

My sediments exactly. If you got caught breaking in my house, my car, my anything I am going to try and nail you. It’s not the gas that worth killing for it is the sanctity of ones home. Thought to be honest I probably would not have shot a woman. (Yes I know that makes me somewhat sexist but…) I still believe that lethal force should be acceptable in defending ones home and property. The liberals may cry about it but I think there would be less of that crap if people knew they might get shot for doing it.

oh yah, anybody that can't hit a target that big with a shotgun should not own one.

If it's a chick, shoot he with your love pistol :D

Unfortunately most people who own firearms for home defense can't shoot them. Especially shotguns.

Doesn't take a lot of skill to hit someone with a shotgun from 20 feet

You'd be surprised. Most people think that when they buy shotguns for self defense(home). I'm a firearms instructor for my dept. and I can honestly say that the shotgun is the worst weapon for home defense if you're unfamiliar with them.

People think you don't have to aim a shotgun. They're wrong.

Only in Hollywood does a shotgun cover an entire wall from 10 feet away.... The shot pattern only opens up about 1" for every yard traveled (12 guage average). So, At the average across the room distance of say 12 feet, you have something about 4" in diameter to hit someone with, a lot larger than say 9mm or .45 inches (handguns), but still very easy to miss with...

What do you reccomend? Would a pistol be good like a 9mm?

I'm not the one you directed your question at, but I'll take a shot at answering it. The best weapon to have for home/self defense is one that you are totally familiar and insinctual with. Not just when it works... but when something goes wrong too... like a jam or a misfire. For me, this is my 12 guage mossberg 500 pump-action. As long as I don't find a completely new way to jam it up, I know how to clear it (and I'm constantly looking for new and interesting failure drills).

You also need to take and zero in the weapon, and know how it shoots when firing multiple shots quickly (IMHO, if I have had to start shooting at someone, there will be no reason to stop shooting until the threat is fully neatralized).

So, besides fully knowing the weapon you will use, what kind of weapon is really up to you. I chose a shotgun for various reasons (noise level, over-penetration, easier aiming (for me)). If I was going to choose a pistol, I'd go for a .357 magnum revolver over an autopistol. I see autopistols as very "offensive" weapons, better suited to when you know you are going into trouble and have the weapon ready before seeing a threat. There are many more ways an autopistol can jam and malfunction, and they often require two hands to clear up said problem. With a revolver, they won't jam if you check your ammo and maintain it, and if you get a bad round, you just pull the trigger again for a fresh one.

If I had a lot more free time to train with the weapon, I would consider using a 1911 style .45 automatic, but for me, for now, nothing beats the combo of a 12 guage and a .357 magnum.
