When the boss is away.......(CONTEST)

thats funny, i've always enjoyed it. but then i'm a high paid obnoxious prick who gets to choose from multiple offers, and has companies fight over me. Last time, a major company that you would all recognize if I named them dropped the one recruiting company since they were so irritated over not getting me. it was funny really

Hah, same here bro. Last time I went job hunting, I had 4 recruiters squabbling over me. I just stuck it out until they had bid up as high as they'd go, and I signed with the highest bidder with the best benefits (which were the same ironically). Sometimes you have to choose one or the other.

The secret is being patient, and getting your resume on the appropriate job sites. Monster is a joke, start with Dice and CareerBuilder and go from there. You'll get lots of random recruiters sending you entry level positions because they didn't look at your req's, but you do get some serious offers as well.

Just graduated with a BS in computer science.
So I'm looking for either a programming job.
Or a personal training position.

Either one will suck to get without experience. Most companies would rather pay the 40-50k a year to a H1B visa contractor who has 5 years experience than take in someone fresh out of school.

Take the first programming job in .Net you can find, for whatever the horrible pay is, and get a year or two experience then leap out for real pay.

Wait... you forgot humble! :stick:

JK Easy. That's a great position to be in. It's great to have that type of leverage with employers!

So how long have you been an "Exotic Dancer" :bb2:

Or if you can write java, get a REAL mans job. .Net is for pussies.

.Net locks you into one vendor and one platform, and your future relies on Micr0j3rks. Java gets you into Oracle, IBM, Redhat, Sun, and a whole plethora of other major companies you'd like to work for. .Net traps you....

FYI, the future is open architecture software, not closed. Archaic closed mantra vendors will die a slow horrible death in the coming decades.

I've been swingin on poles for 10 years now.... All made of 0s and 1s. Its such a pity, I worked for 2 separate companies that were both among possibilities for being one of those internet millionaire deals right before the crash and neither panned out.

Now I'm happy, I work for a company that lets me have flexible hrs, work from home when I want, its the best job on earth

Yeah, that's the key! Livin' the dream, Bro!

Yup, when you can email a co-worker and say I'm not coming in today, I feel a cold coming on. And just get some stuff done from the house and spend the day running around the house in your boxers, now that's a job. Great companies think alike.

The point being, one that most companies I believe will eventually adopt (at least where employees are more valuable and paid better than a honda costs), is that sick workers just get other workers sick. If you punish them for staying home sick, they're going to come to work and punish everyone else and blow the entire divisions productivity (especially if it's a particularly viral infection).

It's just nuts that companies force people to goto work for the sake of punching a time clock. But then again, we're the only civilized country in the world where 50 hour work weeks are the norm, besides slave countries like China. In Germany, France, and the former Cheq Republic, they work ~30 hours a week, and live much 'happier' lives. There again, their GDP sucks. But I guess you get what you work for right?

Alright fellas...where did you get your screen names from?

Mine is a nickname I got back in HS from a buddy of mine at a football game. Obviously, my name is Wil...hence The Wil Man.

I never get sick anymore.

Talk to any recruiter really, .Net is in way higher demand, and pays better. Java is just as closed as .Net is, as was proved when Sun sued microsoft over it. Go where the money is, and thats .Net :)

I am from san antonio and am a huge spurs fan. So mine is in honor of Manu Ginobili, #20 for the spurs!!

Mine was the best I could do when I signed up for Xbox live. I had plenty of previous names i've used, but they were all taken on live already

Actually, Sun just open-sourced java. The next major revision of the JRE will be completely open-sourced. Meaning that java app stacks will no longer be proprietary.

I totally agree with your post on the sick time thing. I am amazed the companies punish workers for getting sick, I can think of jobs that I went IN when i was sick and called out to have a day off to enjoy because of their stupid 4 day a year with no personals policy.

France, and those other European nations are basically so socialistic that the government orders companies to give sick and vacation time. In return, the workers get to pay enormous taxes and suffer lower wages because of lost productivity. I'll take the old capitalist system anyday. Once you start climbing up the ladder, things get much better here fast! The people with the worst jobs, who work the hardest, are the people who have the least skills. I think that's the way it should be. I would actually eliminate the minimum wage and let employers determine the market, but that's just me.

That may have been my FIRST real post in this thread...sorry

Now back to our normal banter

... ... ... ...

My SN originates from the Ancient QuakeWorld TeamFortress .92 Player named BloodWolf (also of the famed defeat of the team canada noobs), previously of EFNet IRC glory, from the dark halls of BloodWF someone stole my nickname! Due to the proliferation of many copy cats, I incitefully chose a similar but distinct name on a drunken binge ranting about politics one night, and so chose the name SatireWolf.

I put an adjective and a noun together in a clever way.

mine is just my nickname from way back. My first name with the first initial and last three letters of my last name. Nobody could pronounce my last name, it is 10 letter of Polish confusion, but not as confusing as that ******** puzzle.

That could be nice, but the way the .net framework is designed then there could easily be a Java# or J.Net or whever microsoft would like to call it that is part of the .Net framework. Comically, Pascal, COBOL, and hmm what was that other language that was sort of VB like that Borland did? all have been made into .Net compatible langs.

edited - Delphi was that other language.

My name I just picked because when I first signed up for Mesomorph.net and Elitefitness years ago, it told me to make a name up, and the first cool thing in my head was TheMyth. Anyone else here remember Mesoporph.net or maybe MMSfitness with Mr.X, Bigkrout, Spook, Mr.Huge, and a few others?

Yup like I was saying. Just look at their GDP and see how much it sucks. Then look at the average take home pay in the country.

The US is actually finally catching up with Switzerland on the average take home pay charts.

Mine is also Polish, although the last 3 letters are not "ski" anymore because there was a squabble or something during my grandparents generation and they changed their name.

See Manu...I always thought your name was Manuel LOL

Satire...you are true Geek my friend ;)

Easy...you're too old for XBox ;) Can I play? I like the race games on there! Need for Speed...Gotham Racing!

Joeski...I can picture that one.

Stud...it's OK to be a stud. ;)

Zombie...well that one is self explanatory! LOL

Yum, fresh steamed chicken and brockley with almonds and casheys, and gabu rice. Thank goodness we have a REAL asian market / restaurant on the corner. None of this bastardized american fat deep fried wanton super noodle sugar puffed almond glazed pork stuff.
