My PSA has been increasing in the past few mos, but I am only 33 and not on TRT (I was on clomid for awhile, but not anymore). Tested by life exension (LabCorp):

10/07- PSA 0.8 (way before clomid, TT=450)

04/08- PSA 1.7 (right after clomid, TT=750, DHT=75, E2=10)

06/21- PSA 2.4 (did not test hormones at this time)

I understand how it could go up when my TT increased, but how could it go up so much more in 10 weeks? Do I need to worry about this at my age?

There is such a thing as PSA velocity.
At certain point it is more important than the absolute PSA value.

You may be heading for prostate biopsy.

I will have my #8 biopsy July 18/08, wish me luck.

Newer have ejaculations within 24 hr or so of blood draw for PSA.

My PSA before starting TRT was .3.
I'm 46.
I'm 38, and mine is .4.

LeanGuy, I'd recommend a urologist visit asap, just to err on the safe side.

Will do. There are many reasons for an elevated PSA besides cancer, especially those under 50.

True enough. But, as JanSz pointed out, what is worrisome about your numbers is the velocity wuth which they are increasing.

I'm 46.
PSA Pre-TRT = .4
PSA 7 months into TRT = .4

On doc's suggestion I've added LEF's Ultra Natural Prostrate since starting TRT but I have no way of knowing if PSA # would have been higher without it.

I'm 52

My last PSA was .2 but it has been as high as .7. I'm not sure why my numbers fluctuate - that may just be normal. I take no particular supplement or medication for the prostate, but have read that HCG kills cancer cells in that region. Years ago I tried Saw Palmetto, but didn't like what it did to my libido.

I've been told a biopsy is a good idea when the numbers go over 4. Most doctors consider 4 normal, but I would get a biopsy at that level. Of course I'm 50 and you're not. I wish you luck. Please let us know how it goes.

None of this is good news... makes me regret messing with hormones. I wonder if the varicocele operation could temporarily rise the PSA.

Just saw my uro yesterday. He said PCA at my age would be very rare, and suspects inflammation or infection. Prescribed 2 weeks cipro and retest PSA in 3 mos. Hopefully it will come back down, if not biopsy time.

I wouldn't have thought of an infection. That's probably all it is.

Update

Recent re-test is good news! PSA is going down, not up anymore.

PSA 1.2 (my baseline was .8)
Free PSA 0.42
% Free PSA 35% (this is a good ratio)
