What's people opinions on Multi Vitamins?

I personally take a multi vitamin daily. I have read tons of mixed reviews. I am using a 'premium' multi. Ie all methylated vitamins and all good doses etc. Just a good (on paper) multi.

Does anyone else supplement with them? If so.. What's your opinion? Do you believe they have benefit or are they just a waste of money?

Thanks

They are cheap and covers the basic, so why not. Cheap insurance. I use life extension 2 a day, but only half dose. Most multis are overdosed. I rather use one with good forms but closer to RDA.

Waiting for SNS to bring out a multi.

Been using Orange Triad since like ~2009, even during periods where I wasn't really in the gym... at minimum the joint complex is helpful haha.

Yep, take a multi on a daily basis

Someone once said the value of a multi isn’t much but it does provide a slight benefit, even if you think your diet is solid

I used to only use a multi an vitamin D and the multi, not consistantly. Since I have been consistant with the following regime, I feel a big difference in how I feel, sleep, recover, strength etc..
I use 1 x Garden of Life Vitamin Code Raw Mens multi each day. About about 2-5 times a week (dependent on how hard I have been working out) I add a Quest Super one day in the evening. I also take 3k vitamin C, 10k D, 100mcg K2, Ubiqinol, 5mg Cialis, Calcium Carbonate, Magnesium and ZMA, Fish oil

This is what I do, I mostly take one, sometimes 2. It's super potent dosing, even 1 is enough to fill in gaps.

I use Orange Triad by Controlled Labs for about just over a decade now.

I believe Vitamin shoppe ultimate man gold to be a fantastic alternative. It is what I have my dad take, and what I would jump in if I ever swapped out from the OT by CL.

I use a very, very basic multi that has the recommended daily values for most things and I buy extra vitamins for the things I like more of.
So basic multi and i buy additional Vd3, a B complex, C, calcium, Zinc, magnesium.

Then IL usually further that with ubiquinol, nac and some omegas

IMO the biggest point is to prevent gross deficiencies, which is the biggest ROI.

Things that blatantly will not be achieved by diet like D3, K2, Magnesium should always be supplemented.

Iodine, Omega 3, Zinc, B vitamins, Choline, Selenium, Vit C & E, Collagen are all things worth paying attention to IMO that can be achieved through precise diet and/or targeted supplementation as needed. So I don’t use a multi - I supplement whatever I need from this list piecemeal for the day.

If I don’t get sufficient calcium, Vit A, or fiber through diet, I still do not supplement with them.

I think there’s value in tracking for a week or so your micronutrients/minerals. Especially if you eat a pretty steady diet week over week. IIRC, I used chronometer. Surprisingly, I typically hit close to or slightly over the RDI for magnesium.

It’s cool seeing each food broken down as well. For example, many of eat eggs regularly, and I personally typically buy Eggland’s Best. Few eggs a day covers a lot of your Vit E, Iodine, many of your B vitamins, Selenium, and Choline needs.

Remember, many suggestions for vitamin intake are for sedentary people. As a athlete or hard training individual you may benefit from a higher magnesium Intake, 500-800/day. I do try to get 400 from food but I still supplement with a extra 400 on top.

Rdi from vitamin d is like 600iu but most of us need 2000-5000 a day, we can typically make use of much higher doses of b vitamins ect.

Oh, for sure, and I should have mentioned that. Really just meant RDI is a good starting place. I often take some Mag Glycinate before bed (yielding 350mg of magnesium).

Agreed on Vit D. Thought the RDI was even as low as 400iu’s. Wonder why they made the marginal increase to 600iu’s. Vit D is a tricky one given how 2000-5000 iu’s may put you in range, me under, and the next guy over.

Vitamin d is definitely a tricky one. Varys soo much from person to person. I work outside almost year round, supplement 5000iu and still low sometimes

Same lol. I also took the ALRI humapro pills too so yeah 100 or more pills a day was a realistic number. Lol but even though the pak is still 8 pills, for the price and what I get, I’m comfortable with it 😌

I thought there was a thread about K2 not being the greatest thing to supplement, but now I cannot find it. Anyone have any thoughts or insights on it?

I would like to come out with a multi-vitamin at some point this year. I've had a formula designed for quite some time that I would love to bring out, just have a few other things in front of it before will be able to.

Thank you. We're hoping to get one out at some point this year.

You brought up a point that is something I've been trying to keep into consideration with the formula that I designed - some people want high potency multi-vitamins and some people want lower potency ones, so I want to make one kind of scalable if that makes sense.

I have psoriatic arthritis, and theres some research showing people with auto immune issues generally have lower vit-d levels and I typically take 10,000iu year round. Even then theres times in the winter where I'm borderline low. One of the only things I actually get tested for a couple times a year, insurance covers it because it's considered relevant for my disease.

It would be nice to make one for AM and one for PM because some vitamins/minerals compete for absorption, particularly in higher doses.

I'm in the same boat as you - I have an autoimmune condition and I use 5,000 IU twice per day and still test in the lower end of the normal range and may during the summer times get into the mid-normal range. I feel for you bc I know first hand it sucks.

I would love to be able to do something like that but it would be really hard to get the average person to buy it and would likely include doing a boxed type pack of two bottles. I would consider it though if enough people were interested.

If I did it strictly through eggs I would have to eliminate all other dietary fat and I'd smell horrible 😆
Surely you can also get it from other sources in your diet such as salmon and red meat. They add up. One of the reason why I like the philosophy of the vertical diet.

How do you get enough thiamine? I've given up multivitamins the past few days and trying to get everything through diet, but thiamine seems the hardest to hit the rda.

Right, I've looked at the list. A few of those things provide about 35% of the RDA and therefore achievable if one is limiting carbohydrates to only beans and lentils and purposely not eating garbage enriched foods. I'm just kind of shocked at the amount of effort required to achieve 100% RDA of that micronutrient vs. anything else really. If one eats beef and chicken daily, there's basically no effort required to hit the amount of any other b vitamin.

Adult male RDA is 1.2mg.

On days I consume spinach, I consume 2-4 cups, which is 0.36mg per 2 cups. I consume a seedless orange and a cup of whole Greek yogurt most days as well which are each around 0.10mg - these things alone get me half a milligram per day average, preventing a glaring deficiency.

3-4 days/wk I consume a half cup uncooked white jasmine rice preWO - that is 1mg, basically my whole RDA. And some days I will make a pot of jasmine rice to eat for a couple days, so I consume a bolus periodically as well.

Lastly, I will toss a cap of Life Extension B Complex (half a serving) randomly into my supplementation if my red meat intake has been lower for a day or two.

Maybe he's saying for that measurement purposes. I.e. he's cooking the rice but the quantity is 1/2 cup before cooking it maybe.
