Weighted push-ups

I never have done one, but for some reason I jus thought of them.

Anyone ever do this with like a plate on your back, hot girl, or whatever?

And is it effective?

I used to do em, but i had some one pushing on the backs of my shoulders on the way up. they were pretty good, i love regular pushups at end of chest likke natty said.

Gents, I have done weighted push up negatives. I find them great for a lat workout- especially on the outside edges. I really seem to hit them when going real slow

Use a weight vest. Definitely would not have someone sit on your back, you would just be asking for an injury.

waste of money though when you can just do decling pushups...

or just find other ways to tax your chest in the gym.

Well, I wouldn't advocate buying a weight vest just for this that's for sure. I just really really don't think having someone sitting on you is a good idea.

my buddy and i usually put 45 pound plates on our backs and switch off usually at the end of our chest work outs and we do about 5-6 sets of 8 to 10 slow reps. by the end were exhausted but its great for strength and growth i think

Ring push ups, that's where it's at.

Push-ups

at the end of chest days I do a variation of push-ups.

We have round DB's at my gym. I grab the 25's and use them as "push-up bars". I put them about a 45 degree angle and put my feet up on the bench. I get about 4 sets of 30 to 50 with changing the widths. Puts a HUGE burn on my upper chest, and allows a deeper range of motion...as I still go nose to the floor. I have about 5 other people trying variations of it (copying me).

Beware...since I use round DB's, they can roll. You have to use your stabalizer muscles to keep them from rolling. I had an older guy ask to work in one day when I was doing it. Sure enough on rep #2, one rolled out and the dude smoked his nose on the floor. Maybe try with octagon DB's first, or with feet on the floor.

Good luck!

I have done them with my feet up on a bench and my hands balanced on two exercise balls, weights etc..

LOL, no a plyometric trainer. We do all those fun stabilzer muscle exercises. I think one of the harder ways we do it was when we took one of those 1/2 ball ab things and flipped it upside down. Then we had feet on a bench and had to balance both hands and do pushups on it with it upside down.

I got a used Military flak jacket off craiglist, found some old school iron ankle weights and inserts at a local thrift store..so i have an adjustable weighted vest

Since I'm still active, I use my body armor quite often.

Ever use chains on a bench press...

(and for legitamacy to post in this thread) ...then do a set of push ups?

No but on the smith machine I do explosive bench press. Where you push hard continuasly so that the weight leaves your hands and then you catch it again. This excersice builds power, because the normal bench you give less effort the higher you raise the bar.

Can be done free weight too but VERY dangerous.

Explosive push-ups can be done to, so that you come off the ground. (Landing can hurt wrists though) Try to make it so you are standing back on your feet!

i have never heard of chains on a bench press. what does it do help more with balance or something????

no it helps push that lock out point.

and the weight continually gets heavier as you push it up.

i dont' have time right now to go into full detail but i'll p.m. you later

in the mean time look up west side barbell and joe defranco
