No unsupported back work for at least a week after the knot is GONE!
...for sure!
A tens unit works really well to.
I think i will buy one of these

Heal up brother.
Yeah, if OHP could be felt immediately then go see a chiro. You need an "adjustment". Sucks too, I know that feeling.
A good chiro will be able to tell if it's an alignment issue or if he needs an MRI. Obviously if he can get an MRI then that's the best thing. One of 2 things most likely going on. Either a pinched nerve which alignment will take care of and is what it sounds like or a "ruptured disc" which you will have constant pain and it will throb at times. When the fluid leaks out of the disc it irritates the nerves. Simon has been down this road already with L4-L5.
Sounds like you're ready for a deadlift session
Glad you're starting to feel better and you got a massage! Just keep taking it easy so you can get healed up!
Speaking of the acupuncture --there is something similar, called dry needling, where they take a larger needle and puncture the knots multiple times to get them to release...sounds crazy but my boss had is done and said that it actually didn't hurt!

Get ready for the next cat is all I can advise. If she's had one this long...there will be more!
Sorry for yours and her loss, man. Always tough losing a pet.
I hate losing a cat. My wife thinks she's Dr Doolittle. I've got some cats if you need one or three...
It's tough at any age. And hard on you watching her have to go through it.
Should he be going to a chiro or getting an MRI? Wouldn't a chiro risk making it worse if he's got pain under pressure?
I don't know; I'm asking.
Sciatic pain from the readjustment means that your piriformis is tight and when you hip and back are actually in alignment it stretches it tight causing it to press into the sciatic nerve. This means you need to both stretch and roll out your piriformis regularly so that isn't an issue. It could also be part of what moves you back out of alignment in the first place. Get to working on it Sir! Oh and for heavens sake no sitting and overhead pressing when your back is in pain!!!! Adding fuel to the fire with compression. You would be better off putting straps on and hanging from a pull up bard as long as possible to decompress your spine, possibly even raising your legs to 90 degrees or less depending on mobility basically up to the point before your back rounds out....I actually have been the chiro route in the past and it always resulted in the return of sciatic pain, so only opt for massage therapy. I am quite certain this is not disc related or in the spine, as I am able to stand from sitting and not walk hunched over like most time I hurt my back. This is more on right right side of my lower back (in line with my surgical scar but a few inches to the right.
The OHP didn't 'hurt' it persae, but I could certainly feel some pressure and didnt want to risk anything thus stopped.
Sorry to hear about the family's loss. Good that she is getting out to get on with life however! Thanks guys... appreciate it! Ya that is the hardest part seeing her heart broken, but she'll be fine. She just left for the gym, so that's a good start
Heck ya! Why didn't you go?

Your homework is to stick a LaX ball under your butt cheek and mash out that piriformis and look up some good piriformis stretches as well as get an adjustment.

Jill Miller has some great YouTube videos on stretching techniques. She has some good piriformis techniques you may want to look at. Simple but effective.
Glad the pain was gone Simon. A few more days of light workouts will do the body good.
I like Chris' recommendation also. The cold weather is probably a big contributor to the tightness also. The lower back and hammies like to be warm!
