Volcom's Optimus PRIME Log

Mullet or Strategic,

As you know I've prescribed my PRIME at 9 caps, daily, no empty days. However, would you suggest dosing the full 9 caps on OFF days as well? Or would it be any wiser to dose 6 caps on an OFF day?

Edit: I was going to send this as a PM because I'm sure that's a sure fire way for an expedient answer, but then I thought this would be a good question for the peoples to have answered.
 
I make decisions such as this based off a single mindset: Stable serum levels will produce the most consistent, aggregate effects over time. I.e., - I would stay consistent in your dosage.

My preference goes to functional strength - Ivan Stoitsov, the guy won gold at the 2007 Weight Lifting World Championship with a 205kg Clean&Jerk. To put it in perspective, that was exactly 2.7X his body weight (76kg) :eek:

Day 6: Should have been an OFF day, but...

As the title suggests, today was suppose to be an OFF day. I've gone 6 days and either 7 or 8 workouts straight without any breaks, so I'm hoping to have the self control to avoid the gym tomorrow for some needed rest. Not only physically, but mentally as well, my heart was not in the workout at all this morning and in additional to other compounding factors, the end result was a less then satisfying workout.

However, on a promising note, this morning was the first time in 4 or 5 weeks since I've performed an incline press movement. As a result of some type of sprain/strain to my upper left pec, I have not been able to perform ANY incline movements, furthermore, I have had to hold back in general on my chest days, even though I've relegated all my movements to flat and decline exercises.

This being my first day back at attempting incline presses, I kept the intensity at a rehabilitative level, as oppose to a strength building intensity (Temporarily, OF COURSE).

Incline Press
185lbs x 15 reps
185lbs x 12 reps
185lbs x 12 reps

Flat Press
225lbs x 10 reps
275lbs x 8 reps
275lbs x 6 reps
275lbs x 5 reps
[The shock of new movement from the incline presses on top of hitting those higher reps really effected my performance on the flat bench as you can see and will effect the rest of my workout as you will see]

Incline Hammer Press
180lbs x 10 reps
200lbs x 10 reps
220lbs x 10 reps

Incline Fly, machine
140lbs x 15 reps
150lbs x 12 reps
160lbs x 12 reps

I most definitely should not have worked out this morning, however, about an hour after my morning dose of PRIME, I suddenly felt an aggressive sensation come over me and it compelled me to the gym, against my best judgment.

No worries, take a rest, recover as I should, come back and get the game restarted refreshed. :thumbsup:

Dragonfly is superfluously hardcore in many aspects, and not "for a girl" just plain 'ole hardcore :thumbsup:
 
I just had to look up Stoitsov's record. I guess he was caught using more than just Bulgarian Trib. Ha. - Honestly, I don't have any less respect for the guy, I was just really curious. That body yielding that much strength naturally is pretty much unheard of. I just had to look and see.

Regardless, I'd much rather watch powerlifting or gymnastics than a bunch of dudes pose down on a stage.

i think they are both eqally very respectable activities.

powerlifting requires discpline to train, and train, and train, and have the balls to get under that kind of weight, and risk blowing out joints, tendons, etc.

and boybuilders train close to as hard, but the displine to diet down to 4 or 5% bf, especially naturally, now that takes some serious testicular fortitude! even the pros, having lots of help, but they are still under some serious stress from the major dieting.

tho powerlifting is definitely more fun to watch. kinda makes you wanna go out and lift something heavy when your watching it.

I completely agree on all cases you brought up. I'm in no way saying that bodybuilding isn't hard. I have respect for bodybuilders because I understand what it takes for the fact that I am essentially one myself; however, I think bodybuilding as a sport, the competition aspect, is just kind of lame. Getting up on stage and posing down next to a bunch of other dudes. "Look at me! Look at my muscles. Am I better than THAT guy?! Oh, please tell me I am! Please tell me I look better than HIM! I mean, c'mon, look at his delts compared to mine. His are teh suxorz compared to these...herrgghhh!!! (<---the sound of someone flexing)"

I don't know. That's just my oppinion.

haha nah i totally feel you on that. sometimes ill watch like my phil heath dvd, or some footage form the olympia, and im just like, wow, this is what has caught my interest? doods, ripped to shreds, posing in speedos, trying to flex harder then the guy next to em? god that is effin gay!

then i hit the gym, get a huge pump, get home, see what going on in the mirror, look for progression, and i feel manly again hahaha

Exactly. Getting there is great. Doing it for personal reasons is great. Feeling good about yourself is amazing. I've never had more self esteem in my life...BUT, it's just the competition aspect I don't like. That's all.

As DF put it, I'm much more interested in functional strength and size, rather than just merely who is bigger and more ripped.

YES!...Hence the recommended 5 on/2 off dosing brother. One can very easily run their CNS into the ground on this stuff. Now, like you I'm a glutton for punishment tho, and I never used it on that schedule, always ran it straight thru, but it's just something one has to be conscious of. And you especially dude, since you are already inclined towards CNS destruction naturally.. :trout:

...honestly Sam I need this as a personal favour OK ? Not only are we in the same boat with Prime but also, we are most stubbornly commited to (over)training :fool2: So my logic is this, if you take a break, then I shall too :)

I've got a friend who does extremely well in natural bb comps here in Australia. This year he went to the US for the first time and placed 3rd. The guy looks amazing, he gets down to 3%BF without cardio or strict diet.

I asked him once (staring at his legs :lol:) : How much do you leg press/squat ?

He responded: I have no idea to be honest, I just lift whatever my personal trainer throws at me !

Yah I hear what you guys are saying. There are a lot of things I did not like about competing. Problem is if your a competitive person and your not as naturally stong as most powerlifters but have an afinity for building muscle your sort of stuck.

I don't mind the compulsary rounds so much, I mean how else are you going to judge. It's those routines you have to do, I mean what am I a dancer or a bodybuilder.

Anyhow if I had the strength I would definitely gone powerlifting...but I didn't. Here I was a competitive person with big muscles... I don't know if I will ever compete again, I don't really like it much like I said. It does force you to go all the way down body fat wise though. The fear of standing in front of 1000 people half naked is good motivation.

What I am doing is, even though my training is more intense and constantly progressive, I tried not to add to much extra in the way of volume and frequency. I find with the ongoing progression I need all the rest I can get. I sleep very well on Prime too.

There really is nothing wrong with bodybuilding as a sport. What is wrong is individuals who think that personal greatness is a function of hypertrophy :lol: I don't think you belong in that group DW !

lol yah I will refer them to my caption at the bottom. Life's too short to worry about what somebody who is anonymous thinks about your appearance. I worked hard to look good.

There will always be haters, I think most recognize that I work hard and deserve some respect. I know I am outspoken and open about what I think at that makes me a favourite target. I don't mind if some don't like me.

Ahahah! You guys crack me up.

If I remember correctly, I USED to be like you guys. I HAD to train EVERY DAY or else I felt like crap. I always thought I was a horrible, fat, lazy human being if I didn't run or pump something every day. Once I started to plateu from the CNS explosions, I learned very quickly why it wasn't a good thing.
 
For me it's simply like this, when your in the gym make sure that you need the rest... high intensity distruction. Age might be adding to that as well...

Were all pumpaholics but we have to be smart about it.

I know better, I mean I really, truly, academically and scientifically know better, but it's my inherent and stubborn invincibility complex, which may explain my recent bouts of injuries. I'm most prone, if not solely prone, to overtraining when running a log, I think I feel an obligation to truly maximize whatever supplement I'm on and I want to have the most proactive experience as humanly possible, however, I could definitely apply the motto, "less is more" on occasion.

Funny story. Not that I've ever taken ecstasy during my adolescents, but you know how Ex has the side of "post-E depression." You've drained your seratonin from the spiked release during a roll and you get all depressed until the body replenishes the emptied stores. I swear I get something like "post L-depression." During a log I'm outrageously motivated, inspired, active, filled with curiosity about the level of week to week improvements, then when the log is done (depending on how exciting it was), its like, "uuuggghh. I partied too hard! This is such a downer!" However, the upside at this point, during post-L depression, I workout in a much healthier manner, 3-4 times a week, rather then 5 or 6.

I know the feeling.It's sort of the same way when I run a juicy stack of supplements and then I run out. I get sort of sad and depressed. We all know that diet, nutrition, and recovery are the most important, but supplements definitely give you that extra boost we all love so much.

For the most part, I think the bulk of us have the smarts about it, it's applying the wisdom and the exercise of self control that needs some work.

i have the lucky combo of being inherently very lazy, yet extremely motivated to achieve my goals in the gym. so, when i need to train, im 200%, and when i rest, im -400%. its truly great.

tho i do sometimes experience the downsides of being lazy. for example, a few days ago i was so lazy, i only had 4 of my 6 meals, and 3 of them were liquid, because i simply could not bring myself to cook or prepare anything. minus one solid meal of oats and eggs for my dose of neovar.

I still have a lazy kid in me. I'm not much of a video game person, but over Thanksgiving break, my hours of responsibilities went from 15 hours a day, to 7, so I visited a friend of mine who loves his x-box 360. I played this game called Gears of War 2 for the sake of "he's playing and I might as well participate rather then sit and watch, even though I don't really care to," and literally, I stopped by his house 5 nights straight to plop in front of his tv and laze away for HOURS on that game, it was great. I don't regret it, it felt nice to breath for a week.

god i wish i had money to buy that. since my dad bought a 50" plasma, playing xbox 360 has been a dream come true. now call of duty 4, THAT, my friend, will keep you occupied for days on end.

For the record, I'd rather be working out today. Week days are especially hard to rest, because I'm especially busy and when I'm especially busy, I have a greater urge to be especially productive. However, my accountabilabuddy, DragonFly has asked me to.

I got the Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ85U.

It's one step down from their lux high end, but 2 steps above their entry model. Great deal, had to pull the trigger.

Ooh, nice: TH series are appealing.

The A Series Samsungs have virtually the same specs ranging from the A530 to the A650. I just got a killer deal!

I was seriously contemplating the Samsung A550... Its the uncolored version of the A650 I believe (no red-tint) and a few other small discrepancies...

Just stuck with Panasonic due to the great price, and the tv I had stolen was a Panasonic, and I loved it.

Samsung has far better optical programming tools though from what I understand, and a slight edge in color rendition.. Can't go wrong either way man.

I am simply a sucker for Consumer Reports, though. They gave the A650 the best 40" and under rating. Panasonic (the lux one above yours) was the very best 50"+. Obviously, they both rule their respective sizes.

Oddly enough, Insignia makes the best 37" LCD; who knew.

that is the million to one contrast ratio correct? if so, that the one i have at my house. truly a beautiful piece of technology. we have the panasonic blu-ray as well. all we need is a nice sound system. were still running an old harmon kardon receiver with some old speakers. sounds amazing, its just out of date. in fact its probably more powerful than half the sh*t out right now by companies like sony and yamaha.

I'm seriously considering the Bose Cine-Mate... I know its not their biggest and baddest, but its perfect for my small apartment.

you should look into that sony set up they have. 5 tiny satellite speakers, a decent sub, ipod dock, and receiver, for 1k i think. i think its about the same as the bose cinemate. ive listened to it in best buy, and sounds fairly good for an open area, so i imagine in a closed environment, it would sound pretty awesome. and the speakers are wireless.
