Two Cissus Questions

My poor wife has been suffering with killer TMJ pain for a couple years now, and nobody seems to be able to do anything about it. Constant chronic pain is slowly driving her bonkers, and I'm constantly trying to find things to help her with it, found Cissus and am thinking it's worth a shot.

First question... the doc believes the pain has caused depression and just put her on an SSRI, Paxil (don't get me started). Any problems with running Cissus while she's on Paxil? From my reading, it didn't seem to mess with any neurotransmitter stuff, but I thought I'd check to be sure.

Second, her lipid profile just came back whacked (which is odd, she eats clean and lifts, with a little bit o' cardio in there too) and we're on a quest now to get her cholesterol down. Thought I'd double check... Cissus doesn't have any effect on lipids either way does it?

Ooops, I guess a third question! The 14 year old comes home from football practice beat to a pulp and I hate the way he pops the ibuprofins like tic-tacs, but I'm assuming the androgenic properties of Cissus means I've got to keep it away from him, right?

Thanks in advance!

As a husband and father, I suggest to consult with your doctor.

I would give it to my wife and its been used in children with fractures in India for decades.

Yup. Did that. Two of them. They both said to stay away from it because they've never heard of it before. I provided a bit of literature and was told by one to "ignore muscleheads that don't know anything about medicine" ....to which I made clear I took great offence. :) (Me and Docs don't always get along)

Lemme rephrase. Are you aware of any effect that Cissus has with lipid metabolism or any effect on 5-HT processing?

Thanks. I'll look further into the possiblity of use with the pounded-to-a-pulp teenager and talk it over with his doctor (who is much more open minded and almost eager to do research than the little minds my wife sees).

Cissus will soon be in the many doctors vocabulary. When a doctor dismisses other possibly remedies, I say move on to the next doc.

Knowing the physiological processes of Cissus I just cannot see how it would have any pharmacokinetic reaction with Paxil. However, I'm not a doctor. The only reason I would lean towards reccomending it is, as USP said, Cissus is used in children, elderly, and adults in a myriad of different situations and I just have not seen any real adverse reactions.

Quick update and thank yous. :D

The wife has been on it 10 days so far, 2 caps in the morning, 2 caps late afternoon. Over the weekend I noticed her doing much less jaw stretching and face rubbing so I thought it might be working... then this morning she tells me that her TMJ has been feeling much, much better the past couple of days! Woooohoooo.

We'll see where we're at in a couple of weeks, but right now I'm pretty damn excited about it. This is the first thing her TMJ has responded to at all... hydros and oxys don't even touch her pain.

Will keep you updated, and thank you guys sincerely.

I would suggest some Systemic Enzymes along with the Cissus. 2 good ones that are affordable from Now Foods are Serrazyme and Nattokinase. I'd also throw the Super Digestive enzyme in there with it. These also reduce inflamation and they should be a killer combo with Cissus from what I can gather.

Thank you, that's something I'll keep in mind for down the road, right now I'm hoping that just the Cissus will do the trick. With only 10 days use providing more relief than she's had in a few years, I'm very hopeful!

Problem is, she hates taking supps, and I've got to nag her like she's a child to take 'em. I mean I've got her taking fish oil caps (2 with almost every meal), 2 Red Yeast Rice with CoQ10 plus extra Niacin for her newly discovered lipid problem, two Cissus for the TMJ, plus 2 multi in the morn (and 1 afternoon) along with a few Vit C's and a B-Complex. She stares at her mountain of pills and groans. If I add more, she's gonna slap me. (Thank god I can hide the taurine and inositol her iced green teas and whey!)

This makes the treatment of TMJ difficult. Although there is no known cure for TMJD, there are many dentists who specialize in the management of this disorder."

She's had two dentists and two oral surgeons try various mouth guards and splints to no avail. Because it's a nerve pain, the regular pain management stuff just doesn't touch it. If this continues to work, you won't realize what a blessing this will be for both of our lives. Seriously.

Keep Us updated, I seriously care to hope that it continues to work...

How are you dosing the cissus?

Me too, it's been ages since she's been able to return oral favors if'n ya catch my drift. ;) I really shouldn't joke.

2 caps in the morning, 2 caps about 6 hours later, both times usually with a bit of food in the gut. I try to catch her on an empty stomach, but it's tough when you eat 6 times a day. :)
