Turff49 Quest for Success

Every time I come in here I am impressed Turf!

Hope you heal up quickly bro.

It's already feeling better. Lax day at work and got off early. Had to pull some 80lb pumps out of some 70ft well wells yesterday and being the mizer I am decided to do them by hand instead of getting a tripod and winch. Then pulled about 1000 TD's of wire out of buried conduits. Sometimes my job gets pretty physical.

Well that would be heavy for this guy... lol Hope you feel better brother.
Well, it being heavy back day I was hoping for 140-145 on the rows since the last couple heavy back days I hit 135 on them. Plus, no shrugs or lat pull downs today so disappointed there but I'm not complaining. If I don't let it heal up I will be down a lot longer. I'm just not one to totally stop though, I'll lift until I have that inner feeling that says stop and that has worked well for me. If I took the day completely off then I would tighten up and it would be worse. One of those situations where I know how my body responds best.

LEGS

Today went much better than yesterday even though I slept in and had to rush to the gym. Heavy leg day and I did not disappoint myself

810 x 3 PR with tweetie birds and stars at rep 3. I think my face looked like a beet lol

Leg extensions
105 x 10

165 x 10
180 x 10
210 x 10
225 x 10
240 x 8
255 x 8 the 5lb add on plate was missing or I'd done 260. 255 is the full stack...

135 x 10
150 x 10
180 x 10

I was really happy with this workout and finished in 55 minutes. Was starving when I finished, ate breakfast and everything feels great!

Geez! Those numbers are incredible! Nice PRs and congrats!!!!

Thanks guys! I'm really happy about it. More than I leg pressed back before all the surgeries, so truly a milestone for me.

Awesome job on both PRs Turff.

Damn are those hack squats on a sled or the rocker arm machine? Either way BEAST MODE!!!!!

HS sled Hack Squat. I use the hack squat to replace the conventional barbell squat. Since the weight isn't on my shoulders compressing my spine then these work out great for me.
If I do conventional barbell squats the compression gets to be too much around 250lbs. And at 250lbs I just don't really feel it in my legs.
Entire neck is fused and lower back is fused. Docs don't want me lifting heavy but ole well...
I think I've got a few more years I can lift like this.

Ok, as I had mentioned the other day I probably would fore go chest day today. Trying to give my right lat time to heal up. And that's what I did today. Woke up, lat is feeling good so decided to give it more rest.
Now, it's not a total rest day as I went ahead and did 30 minutes of cardio, some ab work, and

Front Squats
135 x 10 x 5 sets
185 x 10 x 5 sets
40 second rest between sets and each set performed with fast tempo.

Weight was down another pound to 194. Cals were at 3477 yesterday. So strange, the more I increase my cals the more weight loss I see. But it only happens at the 3000-3500 calorie range. 2500-2900 I gain a little. At 3000 my body turns into an inferno and stays warm. My wife loves that part!

Haven't started the 3-MHD. Still trying to decide if I will. Just doesn't seem like I "need" to add it in right now as I'm still making gains both in strength and in size. Will see how the next week goes...

Lol! I think I'd have a hard time adding enough plates. Plus, what do you do with your hands... The hack squat sled gives me back support. Really works the quads. I can adjust where I plant my feet to feel the outer part of the quad, the teardrop, etc.
I've done goblet squats using dumbbells before. Those are pretty good.

I'll say it again Turff...you're a BEAST!!! Awesome job on the PR!!

Nice I have not used the HS Hack Squat not been lucky enough to use any of the leg stuff in a very long time. Our gyms only seem to get the upper body stuff and none of the stuff i want like the horizontal chest press. That one and the Wide Chest Press are my favorites!!!!

Awesome work on 185x10 for 5 sets of Front Squats that is nice especially after 5 sets of 135x10. You Sir are definitely a beast!

Today ended up being Chest and arms since I took Sunday off. Back feels much better, lat isn't quite 100% as I could feel some tenderness during some of the sets like the flyes.

50 x 10

HS chest press

45 x 10
50 x 10

Dips
BW x 20 x 4 sets

Nice pump on upper body when I left the gym!
Cals yesterday at 3267. Weight down to 193. Gotta increase my serving sizes and get my cals back up to over 3600. Suppose to be a bulk not a cut lol. Guess I could always eat ice cream with one of those Quest PB cups in it every night. That would raise my cals by 500 plus...lol

Awesome HS numbers, as always.

Glad the lat is improving. As for the quest PB cup and ice cream... Well, you know where I stand. Lol

Agree with these guys! Strong! I'm starting to hit the Ritz and PB at night for calories.

Shoulder day
Non-heavy day but still a little heavy...

HS OHP
90 x 20
180 x 15
200 x 10
200 x 10
200 x 10

Side laterals SS with Front laterals no rest between the SS.
20 x 10 / 20 x 10
20 x 10 / 20 x 10
25 x 10 / 25 x 10
20 x 10 / 20 x 10

Upright rows to chin
70 x 10
80 x 10
90 x 10
90 x 10

Destroyers no rest between any of these
45 x 20
40 x 20
35 x 20
30 x 20
25 x 20
20 x 20

And that was it. Total time in the gym was 42 minutes and I'm beat...

Lol. Nice non-heavy heavy day.

Long day at work today so instead of going home for lunch like normal I went with the guys to Firehouse Subs. Not sure how anyone gets full on a sub there. It was good and all but it was like an appetizer for me. I was starving when we left. Had to drink my protein shake and eat a quest bar on the way back to work. Won't make that mistake again...

Strong back work Brian. I keep meaning to use the shrug machine too.

Oh, that sub...

Doing heavy shrugs will help with your OHP's!

The firehouse sub I had was the large steamer no mayo. Was good but I was still hungry.

Now that Dagwood sub in the pic is my kind of sub!! Thanks Kat!

High Rep LEG day

First, went off the wagon yesterday and had 3 large pieces of cake yesterday. One piece of Chocolate Blackout Cake(has chocolate mousse in it) and 2 pieces of Triple Layer Italian Creme Cake. Wife had been shopping and came home with them. Both are my favorites and she said I needed to "live" a little lol. I'm guessing my weight may go up after all now...

Hack squats
150 x 25
240 x 25
330 x 25
420 x 25 with a few pauses on this set

Leg press
180 x 25
270 x 25
360 x 25
450 x 20
540 x 20

Waiting on leg extension machine...

HS preacher curl
45 x 20
70 x 15
90 x 15
115 x 6

Leg extensions
120 x 25
120 x 25
150 x 25
150 x 25 kind of painful ...

Seated leg curls
105 x 25
120 x 25
135 x 25
135 x 25

I was walking like a cheap whore on Friday night when I left the gym.

20-25 reps...OUCH!!!! Crazy strong with that many reps!!

Yeah, legs are sore right now. Especially the teardrop on the quads.

My foot placement on the leg press is low and shoulder width. Same on the hack squat.

Curious, do you have any knee issues with extensions? I currently don't, but hear from several here that they do.

Not that it needs to be said, strong a** lifts, even if the volume was divided by two.

If you're using g heavy enough weight on leg extensions to have knee issues then you're doing it wrong. They are an accessory and should be treated as such

Thomas, no knee issues at all. They pop and crack all the time but have never had any pain in my knees or ankles.

Chest day

DB incline presses
60 x 10
70 x 10
80 x 10
90 x 10
100 x 8
If I had a spotter I would've tried the 110's

HS chest press
90 x 15
180 x 15
270 x 10
320 x 8

Incline flyes
40 x 10
50 x 10
55 x 10
60 x 10
65 x 10
Chest felt pretty fried now so decided to finish off the tri's

Skull crushers
70 x 10
80 x 10
90 x 10
100 x 10

Not a bad workout at all. Felt a little guilt about the volume but when I look at the weight and how I feel, it was a productive day. Chest is fried!

Looks like quite a bit of volume to me.

100's on incline... Nice.

I don't know if I'd be able to swing them up without a spot.
