Topic of the Week: What has helped you the most?

All I can say is no matter what I am doing whether cutting or bulking or recomping I give diet and training the same priority. Both must be a spot on as I can get it. If I slack on either one the other will suffer.

Then you have found what works for you. This sport is not black and white. We debate to push ourselves and learn more. With that comes better understanding and hopefully better results. The wisest thing anyone can ever say is "maybe I'm wrong". I've said it many times. Fitness and nutrition for the most part are in its infancy when it comes to scientific research.

For me it was getting on the forum to learn proper technique and weak point training, having eyes on me to fix issues in technique and root out weak points, and learning from the members about websites where I could do my own research on training articles, programs, videos, what have you. Having the inquisitive nature to plow through ungodly amounts of articles and videos and still want more helps in that regard.

All that and having the opportunity to work with world level guys a few different times through seminars and travel and connections made at competitions. In person coaching can't be beat.

Perseverance and genetics. I am very fortunate to come from a family that taught me to continually work for something despite outside factors and to always be strong mentally, and then physical strength will follow. No matter what anyone else was doing, I was lifting weights and boxing everyday before joining my friends and it has carried on for the last 23 years. Plus, my mom and dad are Hungarian and German and come from a long line of muscle bound, strong lineage, which passed down.

Magyars 4 Life

1. Being proactive and cooking and freezing my meals for the week so I don't end up eating fast food. 2. The internet. I learned everything I know from reading or watching on the net. 3. Having a couple guys in the gym that are bigger than me and wanting to be like them.

Another big one could be influences in your life

If your friends are fit and gym-goers it never hurts

For me training, use to be that guy 3-5 minutes rest per set. Got up to 240's at good shape but man when I went to circuit, crossfit style I had more fun and great shape. Of course was getting away from bodybuilding style but my genetics didn't support that, always lean and athletic just took me 10 years to realize that, lol.

NFS 101 - Intro To Nutrition

I learned most of the stuff beforehand, but this should be mandatory for everyone. I work for a university and can take courses for free, so I took this toward an additional degree in nutrition just for fun.

Training takes work, but seriously the knowledge of the science of calories, macros, etc. is irreplaceable.
