The Unofficial Ice Cream thread

Yea the ice cream is nothing special but they have almost any topping you want and thats a plus in my book compared to other places that offer ice cream. Additonally they offer the kitchen sink haven't got it yet fairly priced but wouldnt be able to finish it,
need to really build up an appetite Invalid Link Removed

I've thought about doing it multiple times since I've completed every food challenge remotely close to buffalo but I just can't do a challenge on something with no nutritional value...at least pizzas, burgers etc with regular challenges give you some protein.

Kroger had a sale yesterday and I grabbed some cheap pints of B&J's and Graeters

VERY Sweet, super strong (Peppermint) was not a fan.
They are making Cotton Candy pints in stores (if you have one local)
If you have a scoop shop I would highly suggest the stout and pretzel flavor. The chocolate covered pretzel mix-ins are incredible.
Also saw peppermint Graeters but had no interest in it

Ample Hills star wars flavors come in tomorrow. Ill start cracking out those reviews.

Invalid Link Removed Thanksgiving breakfast lunch and dinner taken care of. 10 pints of lake effect ice cream- chicken and waffles, butter beer, house chocolate, pb epiphany, hot cocoa. "salted dark chocolate ice cream represents relentless villainy, while cocoa powder, bittersweet chocolate and a dash of powerful espresso reinforce the dark side."

Invalid Link Removed

The dark chocolate ice cream is found in previous flavors such as: It came from Gowanus, Hell's Kitchen Sink, & The Dark Side". Ample Hills decided to put a twist on this one by include a salted aspect. The salted portion provides an enhanced flavoring to the already bold dark chocolate.

Invalid Link Removed

For first order Ample hills added white cocoa powder, bittersweet chocolate, and a dash of espresso. In my opinion what they were going for was a triple chocolate espresso based ice cream. The white cocoa powder is not strong enough to give you a true white chocolate flavor because of how strong the salted dark chocolate base ice cream is. The bittersweet chocolate provides a nice compliment to the base, and the espresso is a mere aftertaste. For those who despise coffee do not panic because you can barley pick up the flavoring. Mainly a small aftertaste if any at all.

Ample Hills The Force is labeled as "Sweet cream ice cream, swirled with rich chocolate fudge, and set against a galaxy of white and dark chocolate pearls."
Invalid Link Removed

The sweet cream ice cream from Ample Hills tastes close their vanilla base as featured in a lot of their premium flavors. The major difference from the vanilla base is the richness of the sweet milk and sugar used to give you an oreo like cream filling flavor. The base is like eating a mixture of an oreo filling and a buttercream frosting found on a cupcake.

Invalid Link Removed

Ample Hills is not known to include swirls in their ice cream as they bank on top tier mix-ins, but the rich chocolate fudge was spectacular. The fudge was rich and packed a bold taste to go hand in hand with the sweet base ice cream. The amount of flavor almost overpowers the base ice cream due to how thick the swirl was. The size and consistency almost reminded me of Turkey Hill as they are known for massive swirls. The white & chocolate pearls were very hit or miss like my experience with the Dark Side and It Came From Gowanus.

Invalid Link Removed maybe just went a tad overboard but made another haul to lake effect... 16 more pints; in my defense you can never have too much ice cream

Ample Hills The Resistance

"Brown sugar and vanilla bean ice cream with an assortment of mix-ins: fiery red velvet ooey gooey butter cake to represent tenacity, hard-edged toffee pieces to exhibit ferocity, and hopeful marshmallows.

Invalid Link Removed

The brown sugar and vanilla bean ice cream mixture is a first from Ample Hills. The brown sugar is seen in Nonna D's Oatmeal Lace & Butter Pecan Brittle. The Vanilla bean has only been used once before in Carolina Jes Pie (Superbowl Flavor). Upon first bite you are engulfed by a very sweet, rich brown sugar ice cream base. As you dig deeper you tend to get an aftertaste of molasses with how strong the homemade brown sugar ice cream truly is.

Invalid Link Removed

The assortment of mix-ins provided in this pint is red velvet ooey gooey butter cake, toffee, and marshmallows. As we know marshmallows can get hard when frozen in ice cream, but the very few I got managed to hold up well and still be soft. The sweetness improves the vanilla bean flavoring to make it stand out even more. The toffee pieces as seen in coffee toffee coffee provide a stellar crunch. the texture of these give you a nice bite because the gooey butter cake virtually melts in your mouth. If you have ever had Ample hills you know their gooey butter cake is a top tier mix-in. The moist, rich, and butter cake has a small red velvet flavor to it that is subtle due to the amount of flavoring provided in the bases and marshmallows.

"Pumpkin ice cream with a cinnamon graham cracker swirl"
While the pumpkin ice cream is light, airy, and gummy... Nothing like a premium ice cream the swirl is what makes this flavor. Thick , Rich, Dense and has a graham cracker crunch and incredible flavor to it. You can eat it by the chunk as you get deeper into the quart.

This and Talenti Pumpkin Pie are the 2 best grocery Pumpkin Ice cream's you can get
Turkey Hill if you like a stronger swirl
Talenti --> If you enjoy a better base and pie crust pieces.

Blue Bunny Cookie Butter
Grade: B+

"Speculoos Cookie Flavored Ice Cream. Cinnamon Graham and Speculoos Caramel Swirls. Speculoos Cookie Dough Chunks"

Invalid Link Removed

Invalid Link Removed

First of all Blue Bunny is not a premium ice cream, and you can tell by the density of the ice cream. The ice cream will temper within 5-10 minutes of sitting out as it is light and airy compared to a top tier S&S, AH, Graeter's that is much denser in buttermilk fat. The flavoring of the speculoos cookie flavored ice cream reminds me of snickerdoodle cookies. It doesn't have the extra kick like if you ate cookie butter right out of a jar.

Invalid Link Removed

The speculoos caramel swirls were straight caramel. There was not much cookie butter or speculoos flavor to it. Just think a rich and sweet caramel swirl that engulfs the outer side of the quart. The cinnamon graham swirl is much more noticed as you dig deeper into the quart. You will strike thick chunks of that swirl from scoop to scoop, but nothing that is consistent from top to bottom. The star of the show is the speculoos cookie dough chunks. The cookie dough chunks are bold in brown sugar, and have a cinnamon snickerdoodle aftertaste. They are loaded all over the place and have a soft, moist, and chewy texture to them.

Just ordered lake effects holiday pack. Won't have it till the end of December but all flavors sound great

Yes I agree all those flavors sound amazing tried posting the flavors on here but was being a pain on my phone. On the verge of ordering two or three packs since it's a seasonal thing as well as flavors only available to holiday pack.

Hmmmm....got me thinking now haha.... Where do you live again? We gotta meet up get a lift in

Live out in Cattaraugus county; it is in the country between Springville and Ellicottville. We certainly could get in a workout together, just have to figure out a day that will work or I will make it work.

I eat too much ice cream sometimes because it tastes good! I do not feel bad about it.

Not sure if its everywhere or just here, but my Kroger is doing another buy 4 save $4 deal and B&J pints are in it -- 2.99/pint.

Freezer is almost empty..... finishing off what I got lying around. Finishing up my 2nd shipment of the Star Wars ice cream.

She uses 100% organic cows and grass fed. Her base is 18-19% buttermilk fat (some of the highest on the market right up there or above S&S in some flavors). All her mix-ins are hand made. She uses fresh made pies for her mix-ins and her new flavors.

Shoot her an email inquiring about a 6 pint purchase and available flavors, but i would pick those 6 because they are all top tier.
Other considerations:
Regular Gooey Butter cake
Salted Crack Caramel
Tommy's TOFFEE BUTTER BRICKLE (her #2 selling flavor) named after her brother.

Lake effect blue table trio sundae (salted caramel, peanut butter ephiphany and revolution coffee ice
cream. Each with complimentary sauces with each flavor and truffles.) Holiday packs for Christmas. Can't wait to dig in

Flavors included in holiday pack "Mornings are for Coffee and Contemplation

Our Stranger Things inspired flavor is truly unique. We first fill the bottom of the pint with a new dark coffee ice cream with swirls of espresso fudge. Then, after it sets, we fill the top with a light roast coffee ice cream with pieces of Coffee Crisp candy bars throughout. We are proud to get all our coffee from our friends at Public Espresso here in Buffalo.

Eventually, if you are brave enough and dig far enough, you will make it to the upside down.

Demogorgon pieces are extra...

Jolly Hello Dolly

We decided to take the decadent Hello Dolly dessert bar and turn it into an amazing new ice cream. We packed our sweet cream with chocolate chips, walnuts, sweet coconut flake and graham cracker pieces. After all that, we then swirled a sweet and condensed milk sauce throughout.

Christmas Cuccidati

A nod to our Italian heritages, we have created an ice cream by deconstructing the famous Italian cookie. First, we blend traditional Cuccidati filling with our Silver Cloud vanilla ice cream to make a truly unique new flavor. We then blend cookie pieces throughout. We even top it with colorful sprinkles, just like Nonna used to make.

Caramel Chocolate and Pecan Cheesecake

How over the top can we go with our Salty Caramel ice cream? Well, here's the answer.

We created a new Salty Caramel cheesecake ice cream then packed it with milk chocolate chunks, rich cheesecake bites and crunchy pecan pieces. You have to taste this to believe it." Credit to lake effect

Update from Canada-land

Kawartha released a seasonal Candy Cane and Chocolate Chunk but it was a total miss. At 200 cals per half cup it doesn’t stand its ground for flavour or mix-ins vs. others easily available in this calorie bracket (yeah I usually rate ice cream on taste:calorie density.) Oddly the base was more vanilla and the mint was solely from candy cane chunks, too many for me and there was maybe 1/2 as much chocolate paired with it.

A real big winner though for Ontario residents is Shaw’s newly available 1.5L tubs of Grammy’s Cupboard.

190 cal per half cup and in that they managed cookie dough, brownie chunks, and a peanut butter ribbon.
9.5/10 on taste vs. Cals.

Not near PB half-baked for mix-ins but being able to eat almost twice as much of Grammy’s makes it worth it. GNO worth a pick up if you see it

I had pictures, but AM isn’t co-operating atm

Yes the Wegmans in Hamburg NY had stock recently haven't tried it yet and not sure how close you are to Hamburg. Also like to add saw it before Christmas so not sure if Wegmans is carrying it as of now

Well I’m in Atlanta so not at all close... that said, I’ll be on my way to Painted Post NY tomorrow for the rest of the week so I’ll be looking for it! Thanks!
