The Unofficial Ice Cream thread

I don't know about you, but when I pay a company to ship me something, I expect to get what I paid for. Including the shipping.

You paid them, they hired ups. Their fault. Should've gone with someone else. Both times.

UPS is not only used by S&S, its used by plenty of online companies who ship Ice cream. I just happen to be on the bad end of the stick with my luck. Plenty of people on the East coast order S&S and have 0 problems. I can bet mkretz can vouch for it as well with his shipment. Plenty of other people on Social Media/other boards have no issues.

For example:
Graeters, Steve's, Jeni's ships UPS
3 major ice cream companies in the United States. I am sure everyone has their hits and misses. Just like how we eat ice cream and don't always have consistent pints. Its a part of life.

Then what was your big ol rant about... That was directly geared at S&S...

But now we know it's not their fault...

Got to love my luck with bad shipping and bad pints lately. I have been on a roll mkretz is stealing all my damn gains with the good S&S. GNO is probably grabbing a bunch of good AH Pints from him soon as well.
You should consider getting a few pints when you meet up next month in May with PB For pres
When you cracking that Sticky Buns? This weekend?

Do you want ants, Bob? Because that's how you get ants!

Rotten milk bags...yuck

Sample session? Gotta get at least 1/2 pint of that down to get to the mix-ins and all the goodies :)

Has s and s cinnamon snickerdoodle yesterday. Really strong cinnamon flavor, great base, loaded with snickerdoodles which were still soft somehow. I'll give it a b plus, the cinnamon was real strong and I love cinnamon

Cold Stone Creamery has four new creations, but the most interesting is the Blueberry Donut Ice Cream Shake that features Cold Stone’s Sweet Cream Ice Cream with fresh blueberries and a blueberry donut blended in. It’s topped with whipped cream and garnished with another blueberry donut.

If that doesn’t excite you, Cold Stone Creamery is also offering the following:

The Not So Vanilla Creation that’s made up Sea Salt Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, caramel, fudge, and Hershey’s TAKE5 Candy Bar pieces.

The Triple the Berry that has the chain’s new Triple Berry Yogurt, whipped topping, fresh blueberries, and a blueberry donut.

Finally, there’s the Berry Paradise Crunch Creation that features a waffle cone filled with Hibiscus Sorbet, Berry Granola, and raspberries.

agree here
think if it had a cinnamon swirl like in Turkey Hill Pumpkin Pie.. would be A easily.

Handel's Red Velvet:

I had higher hopes for this seasonal flavor from Handel's. The base is great, do not get me wrong, but its becomes monotonous very fast. The red velvet flavor is pure, and is far better than the Ben & Jerry's offering. The amount of swirl in this pint was lack luster, but the cream cheese flavoring was great. A lot more swirl, and a touch of something else would really set this flavor off. From what I did experience I would consider skipping this one in the future. I love Handel's and a lot of their flavors, this is one I will not revisit.

Grade: C

From your description and the color, it looks like they just mixed it all into one homogeneous mess. I wonder if it would taste better if they used the same ingredients, but had things like the red velvet and cream cheese more separate.

I'm sure I missed it a while back in my AM absence, but how do you guys feel about halotop?

Rather make my own in an ice cream maker for 10x cheaper. (whey and almond/cashew milk)

The chocolate was so artificial is was horrendous.

If you want a low kcal alternative mix up some Greek yogurt and whey and toss it in the freezer.

Yeah my Kroger had it bogo, and I was considering grabbing some for after my show in two weeks. No issues with label dressing/ false claims that you know of?

I've had the lemon cake and the bday cake and both were surprisingly good

After your show get real ice cream

Or take a Greek yogurt and birthday whey and sprinkles and make your own for much cheaper

They run like what 5-6$ a pint ? Only reason I had those pints was the company sent them to me for a review

I personally would pass but if it's a treat for after your show I would get the real stuff !

Thanks, Bob. My wife has 5 recipes for post show enjoyment already (all from scratch) Confetti iced sugar cookie bars, Maple brown-sugar cookies, her top secret chocolate chip cookies, Homemade cinnamon rolls, and s'mores casserole :)

Needless to say, I cant wait. I'll post pic in the Cheat meal thread after the show. Its been so long since I've had real sweets. ha.

Ignore bob, he has some ridic thing against low cal ice creams.

Halo top is one of the best low cals out there. Lemon cake and bday cake are both amazing. Plain vanilla is great as well. They're all surprisingly creamy for the cals.

Only ruin I've had even close to the consistency and good flavor is the enlightened brand flavors. Oatmeal caramel cookie and hot chocolate are both epic. Occ may be one of my top 10 ice creams period (low cal or otherwise).

Sweet. I grabbed that!

What do you think of the ETB protein you got bob? And did they give you ice cream sandwich?

You get 1$ off halo top for clicking on the coupon "Get offer" and "Print Now"
Works 100% on my end . It was shared via social

When I click it it just closes and brings me back to AM ha. I'll have to copy/paste when I'm not on mobile.

Thanks!

I grabbed you the top 2 flavours from Wegman's (IMO)

Handel's Salted Caramel Truffle:

Overall if you are a fan of Sea Salt Caramel ice cream this is a must get when you visit Handel's. I have had some other offerings in the past but this one would rank towards the top. The dense and thicker ice cream base may be a hit for some. The salty caramel ice cream is a great combination of rich caramel and just enough salt to increase the quality of the ice cream. The sea salt truffle mix-in consistency from top to bottom are very similar to 7-11 (in other words loaded).

Lets compare this to others out there:
Talenti: If you like a softer gelato base, go this route.
Sam's choice offers a very thick and rich swirl, but the base ice cream needs improved.
Haagen Dazs is a good balance of base and mix-ins, but neither separate themselves from the pack.
Throw in a swirl to this pint and it could rival 2nd Street Copper Kettle Caramel as the best Sea Salt Caramel on the market.
7-11: Horse a piece.. very similar in taste and texture.

Grade: B+

Taste? I've heard some pretty mixed things...

No artifical after taste. Smooth, and the thickness surprised me for an isolate due to the added xanathan gum. Very versatile vanilla. I can't complain with it. Much better than some out there.
I have only had a few scoops so far, but will be doing a lot of baking with it. So far I made a nice milkshake with it and it came out good. Used it for protein ice cream too (which Boone loves) and it came out good.

GNO You forgot Banana Peel-N

Going along with this I had edys Texas pecan pie yesterday, for only 120 cals it was great. I ended up eatoing half of the container and its as many cals as a premium pint lol

New Ample Hills - The Land of Milk & honey:
A salty honey ice cream with pieces of cinnamon bun ButterCrunch matzo from our friends at The Matzo Project. Zissen Pesach!

Got all the new S&S Flavors from April on the way on their dime for them messing up my shipment. So well see how good Cinnatopia is.
GNO What did your AH Order look like?
Munchies, The Land of Milk & Honey, I assume?

...if it shows up in solid form lol

Their CS is in talks with the new stanton UPS Store here in PA regarding why it has been held up the last 2 times. And they even sent me an absolution letter because it was their fault both times on the screw up in the shipment.
So once it is resolved and fixed They will ship me the pints I wanted on their dime, and they refunded me because of the mix-up.

Milk & Cookies was pretty meh.. the cookies were weak. Chocolate base was good. I think you may enjoy the rescoop on SCC better.
